Caroline's POV:

I was so clouded with worry for my father that I could hardly keep myself from leaping out of the bed to go find him. Who could have taken him? It's not like he could get up and waltz out on his own. He was in a near vegetative state!

Martin readily helped me out of the building and into his car, speedily driving me to the hospital where my father was supposed to be. I hurriedly confronted the lady at the front desk, and as soon as I told her my name, she immediately sent me to talk to one of the staff: an older woman was relieved when I told her who I was.

"What happened to my father?" I asked, my voice demanding. "Wasn't there anyone who saw him leave?"

"Don't worry, ma'am, I'll explain everything," she replied in an attempt to keep me calm. "It turns out that your father was transferred to a private hospital by a family member."

Lcried out in shock. "Another hospital?" My brian was a complete mess of confusion. Who would have the authority to transfer my father other than me, his only family? "Another family member? Who?"

The woman swiftly sat before her computer and quickly typed in a few keys. "Let's see here," she murmured, diligently searching around until she found the answer. "A gentleman came in and claimed to be your husband. His name was... William Anderson. Does that name ring a bell?" "What? William?" I shouted, barely able to contain my panic. "William and I are divorced! How could you just let that happen? I- ah!"

I hissed as a sharp pain struck my stomach. Martin and the doctor kindly helped me to take a seat and offer my kind words, but my thoughts were too overwhelmed by panic. William had transferred my dad into a separate hospital, but why? Was he really so cruel as to take my father away from me?

I was near tears, with the pain in my stomach only compounding my distress. Was the stress of the situation causing my body to harm itself? I began to hyperventilate, but it halted as soon as Martin grabbed my hand.

"Hey, are you okay?" he asked worriedly.

"Martin, my dad is gone and William has him!" I cried out. "Of course I'm not okay!"

Martin's eyes flickered with surprise by my outburst, but he was surprisingly understanding. "Hey, I know this seems bad," he told me, "but you need to calm down. At least we know that your father is in the hands of capable doctors. All we need to do is think of a way to get him back."

Despite my terror at the present situation, Martin's presence soothed me. He smiled

After considering Martin's words and truly taking them to heart, I smiled at him with newfound confidence. "You're right," I whispered with a nod. "He needs me. I'm not going to let him down. But first... I need to talk to William

Even though I dreaded it, I quickly pulled out my phone and called William's number. He failed to pick up on the first ring, flooding me with irritation. I tried a second time, and I went frustratingly ignored. It was on the third ring that William finally had the decency to answer

"Hello, Caroline," he greeted, speaking as though we were friends. The smugness in his voice infuriated me. "I knew you would reach out to me."

"Where is my dad?" I demanded. I wasn't going to play games with him. I needed to know where my father was or I would never forgive myself for losing him. "What did you do with him?"

"Don't worry," he replied, sounding far too calm. "He's perfectly safe. I've arranged a professional medical team to look after him."

"Where is my father?" I roared, finally letting my anger out.

"I'll let you see him," he replied smoothly. "However, you must agree to one condition." "One condition?" I parroted, showing my confusion. My patience was completely gone by this point, and I was ready to scream at him through the phone. "What condition, William?" "Come to my house and stay with me for a week, William said simply.

My eyes widened in utter shock. "What? No!" I yelled. "I won't do that! William, you- hello?"

The call abruptly ended without another word.
