Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0049
Chapter 0049
Caroline's POV:
I stared at the report with wide eyes, my lips parted in awe. Someone had clearly changed the diagnosis for me, but who could have done that? Who would have had the power to do so?
Stunned, I briefly thought back to the few suspects who could have had a reason to hide the results from William. My first thought was Martin, but would even be able to access the results if they came from a private sanatorium?
Perhaps it was someone who refused to let William know for nefarious reasons. Could it be my father's attacker, perhaps? Even Sophia's name crossed my mind at some point. Did she know that I've been with William?
Whatever the reason, I took the lab results as a godsend. My secret was safe! "See?" I said with a scoff. "It's just you being paranoid. Can I see my father now?"
William dared to look furious despite having gotten the results he'd asked for. What right did he have to be angry at me now? "We agreed to a week," he scowled, backing up towards the door with George in his arms. "You still have six days left to go. Stay here and don't do anything funny, got it?"
He shut the door with a slam so hard it shook the walls. I roll my eyes at his ridiculous behavior. Why did he always have to be so dramatic? His behavior was deeply annoying, but thankfully he was gone for now.
The daring thought of leaving the apartment crossed my mind, but I wouldn't be able to escape without one of his little spies informing him of our broken deal. How else could I deal with William?
I lounged around the room for a few more hours, lamenting over my situation and pondering what I could do to get my ex-husband away from me for as long as possible. As I considered my options, a fuzziness began to cloud over my thoughts and a dizziness came over me. I gave into the hazy grasp and let it lull me to sleep.
Time seemed to fly by as the dazed feeling worsened, but I soon heard a smooth voice calling my name. It was muddled and distant, and for a while, I struggled to hear them at all. My face was burning hot while my body was ice cold, and I struggled to understand what was happening.
I felt rough hands grab my shoulders and start shaking me. I let out a low groan but failed to utter a word. A gentle hand touched my forehead and more muddled words were spoken.
"Caroline," a voice said, breaking through the haze. "Wake up, Caroline. Wake up."
Everything was so obnoxiously noisy. All I wanted to do was rest, but that smooth voice just wouldn't leave me alone. A rational part of me desired to wake up and uncover the issue, but any attempts to awaken quickly died away.

I felt the sharp prick of a needle on the inside of my arm. The pain made my head a little clearer, and when I opened my bleary eyes, I saw the last person in the world I wanted to see: William. An ugly look of anger tainted his chiseled features.
I lethargically looked over to see Laden putting in a drip IV in for me, explaining the prick in my skin. Ever silent, he merely gave me an acknowledging nod before strutting out of the room, leaving me with William once more.
"What's wrong?" I murmured, a little light-headed.
Without missing a beat, William started berating me. "Are you an idiot?" he growled, his arms crossed. "Why didn't you change your wet clothes before you went to bed? You're running a fever!"
His voice sounded annoyed, but beyond that, I would have sworn I could detect hints of concern somewhere deep in there. Maybe I was hallucinating?
The fever I was suffering from sent a wave of nausea through me. A sudden pain ripped through my stomach, and to my horror, I was about to vomit. Ripping out the IV and shoving William out of the way, I sprinted into the bathroom. I just barely locked the door in time to keep William out.
"Caroline!" William shouted, pounding on the door. "What the hell is wrong with you? Open the door!"
I barely had time to respond as my legs gave out from underneath me. I made it to the toilet just in time and emptied my stomach. There was so much blood, it could only come from my
cancer.
A wave of weariness hit me and I slumped against the wall, slamming my head against a shelf in the process. I struggled to even breathe as my vision faded in and out.
The violent sound of splintering wood met my ears as someone kicked their way into the room. William's well-built form appeared in my vision, but he was a blurry mess. "Laden!" he roared, lifting me into his arms. "Get in here! Now!"
