Chapter 0055

Ever since my nasty argument with Sophia, she outright refused to contact me for several days. Was she actually angry with me? I wanted to go and be with my darling, but dealing with Caroline's illness and her stubbornness had made that difficult.
A pleasant surprise overtook me when Sophia called me while I was with Caroline. Hearing the pain in her voice as the lamented missing George sent a sting of sympathy in my gut. Despite the irritation I felt with Caroline still in the room, I tried my best to speak gently to my love.
My heart ached for her, but something didn't feel right about my girlfriend. She'd mysteriously disappeared for several days without a drop of explanation, and she hadn't even taken little George with her. Instead, she coldly dropped him off at my parents' house without even telling me, running off to some unknown location. Now she was pleading for him back?
Her strange behavior bothered me, and I'd tirelessly tried to contact Sophia for some sort of reasonable explanation, but all my calls and texts went painfully unanswered. The closest thing to a real response I got was a single, cold text that read "I need some time alone. Don't bother me." Concern brewed inside me at her confusing actions, but she rightfully needed her
space.
If Sophia was one thing, she was a good girl. She mercifully forgave Caroline for hurting her before, and she was even kind enough to recommend a trustworthy doctor for her. Being the stubborn woman she was, Caroline denied the generous offer, much to my agitation. She had no right to so rudely refuse my love's kindness.
Begrudgingly, I hurriedly drove Caroline to the hospital to see Sophia's recommended doctor, and I was repeatedly assured that Caroline was in good hands. Despite the anger I felt for her, I felt only gratitude for her safety. However, any lingering compassion I felt for Caroline crumbled to dust the moment I saw the report.
Caroline didn't deserve the kindness Sophia had shown her, nor did she deserve my mercy. She had repeatedly lied to me and strung me along for sympathy, and refused to take it
anymore.
The liar in question had such a plain reaction and it made me angry. "Oh"? How could any reasonable person just say "oh" when their lies had finally been uncovered? Did she even care that she'd been caught red-handed?
Caroline was a constant thorn in my side, and if I didn't keep my distance from her, my temper would surely skyrocket. I rightfully demanded that get out of my apartment, and she had the gall to tell me that she hadn't even wanted to stay with me in the first place. I had generously offered for her a stay in a beautiful luxury apartment for a whole week, and she was too vain to even be thankful.
Although she clearly wasn't living with cancer, her condition was still pitiful. I reluctantly arranged for her cushy ride home, even if she didn't deserve that sort of kindness either.

Although she pathetically failed to even last a work with me, I had still promised her I would tell her where her deplorable father was. I was a man of my word, so I reluctantly gave her the Information. One could say that this was my last mercy.
I could finally dump Thomas back to a regular hospital after this. I refused to watch over that scum for much longer. If Caroline didn't deserve my kindness, then Thomas absolutely deserved to rot,
However, as I was about to meet back with my lovely girlfriend, I got an unexpected call. It was from that heavyset bodyguard I'd wasted money on to watch over Thomas West. If someone had really tried to kill him like Caroline had so ridiculously accused me of, then he at least needed sturdy protection. "Michael, is everything alright?" I curtly began. "How's Mr. West doing?"
On the other end was a fit of incomprehensible babbles and apologies from the big man. He sounded distressed, and I could feel myself growing more tense with "sorry" that spilled from the blubbering man's mouth.
"Michael, what's wrong?" I asked, stopping in my tracks. "Did something happen to Thomas?"
"Mr. Anderson, I'm so sorry," he said, already apologizing his guts out. "I went to the bathroom this morning, only for a few minutes, and when I came back, I found someone rushing out of Mr. West's room! I failed to catch him, and when I went back to the room, I found..." My eyes blew open wide with shock and an uneasy feeling settled in the pit of my stomach. Did something dire happen? "Go on," I demanded, keeping my voice from shaking. "What happened?"
"I'm so sorry, it's my fault! I found his oxygen tube had been disconnected, and he went into heart failure!"
