Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0077
Chapter 0077
Caroline's POV:
As soon as the question left my lips, Sophia froze like a statue. Tension visibly rippled through her body, but within seconds, she forced it all down.
"Of course," she said simply, as though her sudden appearance wasn't strange in the slightest. She snapped her arm to gesture at the nanny. "Sandra informed me of what was going on. I'm George's mother, so of course I should know if my own son was poisoned!" She spun on her heel to face William, fake sorrow bubbling in her voice. "William, honey, I know there are some misunderstandings between us
>>
"Misunderstandings?" William snorted, sarcasm dripping into his voice. "Sure, let's call it
that."
Sophia continued on undeterred save for a small flinch from the blow to her pride. "William, you can't possibly be so cruel to our child! Can't you see that Caroline is trying to hurt dur baby? She wants revenge! Please, William, get her out of our house! She's a vicious woman and she scares me. Who knows what else she plans to do to our sweet, darling baby boy-"
"Enough!" William snapped, causing Sophia to wince at his harsh tone. George was getting distressed at the raised voices of his parents, and soon he began to squirm restlessly in his mother's arms. His face was flushed with embarrassment, no doubt for having to handle two women vying for his trust at once. Because of this, he failed to properly respond.
My lips curled into a firm frown. Let me see how truly disappointing you can be, William, I mocked silently, anger staining my heart. Stepping forward, I rose to challenge Sophia's words.
"Don't think everyone here is as manipulative and scheming as you are," I scoffed, approaching her step by step. Sophia followed in kind, moving backwards and clutching her baby close in an over-exaggerated display of fear. "How dare you act like the victim?" "William!" Sophia cried out pathetically. "She's threatening me!"
I locked my eyes with hers, letting her see the contempt that rested in my gaze. "My baby could have lived a long and happy life, but you deprived him of his chance to live. Have you ever heard a baby's cries in your dreams at midnight, Sophia? Do you know the pain of endless nightmares, losing your baby over and over again?"
Sophia was visibly pained just hearing all of this. "Shut up! I don't want to hear any of this!"
I refused to let her get away so easily. "Even if I wanted to take my revenge, do you really think you have any right to blame me? You're a murderer, Sophia! A murderer!"
My body was shaking with rage, by anger reaching a fever pitch as I only drew closer and closer to the woman that had taken everything away from me. "Do you have any remorse for what you do?" I snapped, tears brimming in my eyes. "Do you know how much pain you 475 800S
caused me after you murdered my baby? How dare you play the victim, you heartless-"
"Caroline!" William rushed forward and took me by the shoulders, halting me before I could fully encroach on Sophia's space. He blocked us from one another, and with a stern look, he told Sophia, "It's best you go. You two obviously can't be around each other right now." Sophia opened her mouth, no doubt to protest the order, but there was hesitation, Looking between William and 1, it was clear there was some anxiety brimming beneath the surface. Was she afraid that William would take my side for once?
As much as I wanted that to be the case, William was a foolish and gullible man. It was satisfying to see her be the one in distress for once, but her dear fiance would no doubt stick up for her somehow.
"I want to take George with me, William," Sophia announced then. "I hope you'll come to your senses and take us home when it's time. You wouldn't leave your child fatherless, would you?"
William sighed roughly, pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration. I had never seen him so cross with her before. Was it possible he was actually seeing through her ruse?
"Sophia, some things aren't that easy to get over," he growled. "I just need time to rethink our relationship, okay? Please, give me some space."
Sophia donned a fake look of sorrow, no doubt to garner sympathy. "William, please, don't treat me like that. You know I love you."
A sneer curled my upper lip as I grew fed up with this farce. I shook myself out of William's hands and began to head towards the bedroom to get some rest. I passed by Sophia, unwilling to acknowledge her, but I was stopped by a little tug on my shirt. Looking down in surprise, I noticed George's little fist curled into my sleeve, a look of stubbornness in his eyes. Even with his own mother here, he still wanted me to stay?
