Caroline's POV:

They tried to poison little George! How dare they? I thought angrily to myself, the words nearly spilling out my mouth. Thankfully I was able to keep my lips sealed and not alarm them, but my blood boiled just beneath the surface.

I knew Sophia was a lying, manipulative woman, but I never thought she would be this unscrupulous just to get rid of me. She risked her child's life! I wouldn't doubt if she's always been this entitled, extreme egoist, only ever caring about herself and how she was perceived. What a shameless woman!

Memories of the video Martin's friend had sent me suddenly flashed back into my mind. I vividly recalled the man she had been leaning so fondly on again, and it now occurred to me why she was acting so despicable. Her relationship with William had finally broken down, hadn't it?

Had William finally brightened up enough to realize that he was being cheated on? If so, it seemed she was pulling every trick in the book in an effort to win him back. Even if William was a foolish man with cheap love, he was still quite the prize for someone like Sophia, what with his vast wealth and social status.

I eavesdropped further as Sophia and the nanny were seemingly hatching a brand new plan. I heard the crunch of dead leaves, and when I curiously peered out from behind the tree, I witnessed the nanny getting down on her knees with tears in her eyes. Was Sophia making her beg on her knees? Who could be so cruel to another person?

"Please, madam, give me another chance," Sandra begged, her voice cracking with emotion. "Please, my husband needs the money for his medical treatments! I can't lose this job!"

Sophia was glaring down at the nanny as though she were lower than dirt, her lips curled in disgust. "Fine, I'll be merciful then," she said, and I couldn't help the scowl that appeared on my face. As if Sophia could be anything other than callous and evil. "I'll give you another chance, but this time, you're going to succeed, do you understand me? If you fail me, I'll make sure you never get another job ever again!"

The nanny pitifully sobbed in relief, and for a moment, my heart went out to her. No one should be forced into such a horrible position. Even if she was carrying out Sophia's wicked deeds, she was in a desperate situation, and it pained me to know that such an evil woman was forcing her to harm this young child.

"I won't let you down, madam! I swear!" Sandra cried, and Sophia just rolled her eyes in response. It was clear she was annoyed by such a pathetic display. How could one be so heartless?

"Listen up, old woman," the mistress began, her voice dripping with venom. "You're going to create the illusion that George had gone missing, alright? Hide him away if you have to. Just make sure that no one can find him until it's time, understood?"

I could see it physically pained Sandra to carry out such a devious plan, but she had no choice in the matter. "Yes, madam! I'll make sure he's hidden away. What else?"

Sophia thought for a moment before a wicked smile crossed her face. "Then you're going to frame Caroline for it," she said simply.

The nanny blinked in confusion. "Frame her? How am I supposed to do that?"

Sophia looked down at her as if she were an idiot "That's for you to figure out! I just want it done, do you understand?" she demanded viciously. "This is your last chance if you don't want your husband to die, got it? If you fail me, you can kiss your husband goodbye!"

The nanny sobbed out her desperation. "Yes, madam."

I was horrified by what I was hearing. They were planning to frame me for George's disappearance! Despite the fact that I was the one who would get in trouble, I found myself more worried about George than my own safety.

After all, with such a high-stakes

plot, there was a chance that George

would be injured in the process. He was so weak and fragile, so how could he be expected to make hebe it through something like a fake kidnapping? Were they insane?

Besides, William should have seen her true face by now. I decided I was going to quietly return to the villa and find a way to prevent George and I from falling into their trap, As I was creeping away, however, accidentally stepped on a dry branch, causing a loud crack to ring out through the forest.

Sophia's head whipped around and I quickly hid myself behind the tree. "Who's there?" she demanded.

Oh no! I slapped a hand over my mouth to keep from making a single noise. My heart pounded in my chest, deathly afraid of getting caught. What would happen if they found me?
