Billionaire's Betrayal: My Ex Beg Me To Love Him Again -
Chapter 0086
Caroline's POV:
When I finally came to, I heard the hushed voices of two men speaking a few meters from me. I decided to pretend to be asleep and listen to what they were saying.
"Why did you bring a woman here?" asked one of the men, who sounded exasperated by the whole situation. "Who is she?"
"She interrupted us," replied the other figure in the room. My eyes widened as it instantly registered in my mind who was speaking. That was the driver that had knocked me out! "She insisted on getting the child. They were all creating too much noise, so I had no choice but to whack her."
His accomplice sighed heavily, and I could hear him worriedly pacing back and forth. "Well, what do we do now?" he asked, sounding almost helpless in his intonation. "Our employer didn't say she would pay double. Bringing her in here just gives us unnecessary trouble. I don't want to get caught because of her."
Footsteps approached my location. "We won't get caught, believe me... Hey, wake up! This is no place to sleep!"
A boot nudged me out of my unconscious state. Smacking it away, I sat up and looked around dazedly to understand where I was. The room I was in was small and featureless, and although I had been sleeping on the carpetless ground, my hands and feet weren't bound. It was already a step up from my last kidnapping incident, but I had still been kidnapped nonetheless.
Looking up at the two men, I scrambled away and slid up against the far wall to get as much distance between us as possible. I stood by supporting myself on the wall, keeping a wary gaze on my two kidnappers. The driver was a tall and burly man with a grim face, while his little friend was shorter and thinner in stature.
"Where is George?" I demanded first and foremost. His safety was the most important thing to me at that moment, and I needed to know that he was alright. "What have you done to him?"
The thinner man arched his brow in confusion. "George?" Realization popped over his face. "Oh, you mean the child? He's fine! My wife is looking after him as we speak."
I blinked, confused and wary. "So... he's safe?"
"And well-fed," the man exclaimed. "The little guy is such a glutton! He's already had two bottles of powdered milk! A special formula, too. My own child never has anything that good."
Relief flooded me at the news. Sophia may have been so callous as to poison her own son, but she wasn't going to let him starve. That was at least something I could give her credit for, even if it was the barest of compliments.
These two people were certainly scary looking, but they didn't appear to be outlaws. If anything, they appeared to be just normal men. Perhaps there was a way I could negotiate with them.
"Can I see George?" I requested anxiously. "I just need to make sure he's alright."
The skinner of the two gave me an odd look, glancing me up and down as though he were evaluating me. "Why are you so worried about him?" he inquired rather rudely. "As far as I son. Are you the mistress or something? Do you want to use the child to please him so he'll choose you over his wife?"

His invasive questions left me speechless. It was George's mother who was the mistress! Yet here I was, being treated as though I were the jealous second lover pathetically vying for William's attention. L
wanted to snap back at them, but I forced myself to consider my
situation. I needed to gain their trust.
"If I'm not mistaken, the one who hired you is a woman, isn't she?" I inquired with an air of confidence. "Did she say that if you hide George away from his father, she'd give you a generous reward?" Although it was mere speculation based on the conversation I'd overheard between Sophia and Sandra, I knew I was
right on the money.
The skinnier fellow blinked in surprise. "Yeah, how did you know?" I didn't expect that he would be so easy to admit.
The driver gave him a rough nudge with his elbow. "Don't fall for it," he said simply, giving him a warning look before glancing back at me. "Listen, as long as you stay here and don't cause any trouble, we won't hurt you. As soon as we get the money, we'll let you go, okay?"
His words gave me confirmation to one of my speculations: Sophia didn't know I was here. If she did, there was no way in hell she would just let me go. These two men just wanted money, not to get blood on their hands. If I could just get some more information out of them, then maybe I could-
"Brook!" yelled an older woman coming into the room with a tired look. "We don't have enough nappies. Go out and buy a pack, will you?"
That must be the "wife", I guessed.
Curiously enough, her facial features quite resembled Laura's.
