Billionaire's Regret -
Chapter 33:
"Annie, I am back. I will find you." He whispers softly. "I came with a new game plan. These people who play their own games, I will destroy them. ..." "Aaron Casey?" The man called through the crowd of people.
The tall man with dark glasses and the dark cane stood motionless. He clearly listens while waiting. The passengers moved passed him in a hurry to reach their destiny. He waits. It has been ten years since he was back in this city. "Are you Aaron Casey?"
"Who is asking?"
"Are you fucking blind? I am holding a sign like a stupid fool." The man said openly annoyed.
Aaron simply smiles and adjusted the cane. "Lead me to the vehicle."
"Oh shit. You are blind."
"You are correct sir."
"What the hell happened? Were you born like that?" the stranger was rather openly curious. "No, I was a fool."
"What do you mean?"
"Don't you think you are a bit forward in your questions?" Aaron brushed over his hair.
"I am but in my defense I rather want to know who I am driving around."
"Who hired you?"
"Don't you know?" the man asked in his still straightforward manner.
"I don't if you want an honest answer." Aaron brushed over his hair again. It was his manner when uncomfortable. Gregor Damian did damage to his hair years ago when he had thrown him out of the Mansion. That man has done much damage. He was back in the city to undo what he can. He also has a score to settle with Grace Stevens. It took time but he managed to find the right doctor who told him his memories was severely altered.
"I think I am working for the head of the Damian Estate. My name is Manny."
"I am here for a funeral." He said solemnly.
"My sincerest apology; sir, the traffic is heavy. We should leave or you won't be on time."
Aaron adjusts his cane again before moving in the direction of the man's voice.
"You seem capable if I say so, sir."
"I was taught for ten years Manny."
"What do you mean? I know I am a fool sometimes, but do you mind explaining." Manny tries to take his arm. This made Aaron stop immediately in his steps. "I am blind." He said through clenched teeth. "I am not an invalid." "I am very sorry sir. It wasn't my intent to make you feel...oh, let me just shut up. Where is your luggage? May I have the sticker?"
"I have no luggage. I don't intent to stay in the city too long."
Aaron looked straight ahead just listening to the sound of traffic. His mind circles back to ten years. That memory stays vivid in his mind. He never talks to anyone about what had happened to him. Annie ...
The day Gregor and Zac found him on the beach they did their best to do damage. He constantly wonders what had happened to Annie and their son. The choices he made and the situation he found himself in, the regrets keeps building. When he woke in the hospital after that explosion in his face...he just knew; he was responsible for his own life. Only then can he help his loved ones.
"Are you okay sir?' Manny dared to ask.
"Why do you ask?" Aaron stayed motionless in his seat.
"Am I allowed to be frank sir?"
"Yes," his face still just in one position.
"Are you aware you have been grinding your teeth?" Manny said carefully.
Aaron felt the tension in his face. He slowly realized he was also holding tightly onto the inside door handle of the vehicle. "Sorry," he said.
"I don't want to sound like a nosy woman, are you okay?"
Aaron felt the vehicle stop at the traffic lights. "It's weird being back here." He decided to answer truthfully.
"You said you left ten years ago. Is it for that blind school? The Damian household is on high alert for your return."
"Yes. I needed specialized care."
"I take it you were not born this way. I mean, you did say you left around ten years ago." Manny pulled away from the traffic.
"There was an explosion. I was blinded." Aaron answered gritting his teeth again.
"I am sorry sir."
"It wasn't your fault." Aaron removed his dark glasses to rub his eyes. He heard the soft intake coming from the driver. "Your eyes looked normal." He said pointedly.
"It took several doctors and many operations but my sight is still lost. I finally told them to stop. I then start my training to adapt to my new life."
"That's very impressive sir."
Aaron placed the dark glasses back on his nose. The rest of the drive was done in silence.
"My sincerest condolences Aaron, we will miss your mother." The man reached for his hand but received no reaction. He just stood looking ahead. He senses the man's frustration. It occurs to him that maybe Gregor hide his affliction. He reaches up to remove his glasses. "Sir, I am blind. I sense your feelings." He said simply.
"Oh my God, sorry Aaron I didn't know." The man suddenly placed his hand on his shoulder and squeeze firmly. "There is much you should know. I am the new family lawyer." "Maybe later sir,"
Aaron stood motionless. He was completely confused. He knew for a fact that his mother had died when he was twelve years from hunger.
The rest of the mourners carefully avoided him. He simply stood there looking ahead. He can hear the whispers of curiosity behind his back. It took time and patience but he realized she was responsible for his very expensive treatment. Gregor Damian thinks he has managed to steal his wealth but the joke was on all of them. His expression was hard as stone. He senses someone looking at him but he also feels this person was hiding. This makes him wonder who it was. "Aaron..."
A chill runs down his spine in recognition of the voice. He keeps his motionless position, waiting.
"You better answer me." Grace Stevens hissed through obvious clenched teeth.
"What do you want?" he asked softly gritting his own teeth.
"Why are you still standing at this grave? You realize the people left. A select few are waiting for us at the church."
Aaron says nothing.
"I am talking to you." Grace moved closer. She pushed hard against his chest. She quickly winched when she realized his chest was solid muscles.
"What do you want?" he asks again.
"I am head of the Damian family now." Grace said with suppressed satisfaction.
"Did you marry Gregor Damian?" he asked.
"No, but he made me the Head."
"What do you want from me?" he repeats his question.
"Come with me." Grace took hold of his arm. Her fingers tried to curl around his arm. He heard the soft intake of breath. He was man enough to understand her reactions but the bitch leaves him cold. Grace's iron grip firmly pulled him in a direction he was uncertain about. He simply follows and being quiet. He learned people's actions can then be heard very loudly, especially those unspoken secrets.
He instantly senses he was back in the church. He realizes they were not alone. He keeps allowing himself to be pulled ahead. They finally seemed to stop somewhere.
"Where am I?"
"You are in the church." Grace informs him with a very odd tone of voice.
"What am I doing here?"
"You are going to fulfill a request from Gregor." Layla said coldly.
"What are you talking about?" Aaron keeps his voice even toned.
"You wanted to play hero. Now, here, today, you are going to grant that wish."
"What am I supposed to do?"
"You are going to marry Annie Black. You both sealed your own fate years ago." Grace said in cold satisfaction. You don't want me well you are going to marry the damaged goods. You scared her face and she blinded you." Aaron clearly hears the vindictive satisfaction. The chill running down his spine makes him wonder how dangerous she might be. "I see. What if I refuse?"
"I will make you regret this Aaron."
