Billionaire's Regret -
Chapter 36:
Aaron carefully placed the cane beside the wall. He listens a moment before he removes his dark glasses. He married Annie a year ago but the day after the marriage when he woke, he found her gone while he was been beaten... He plays different roles for different reason. Then she just returned, face no longer scared but one hell of a bitch. The young girl he married and divorced the first time has changed so much. There are so many different versions of her.
"Boss,"
"Mathew, did you track her down?" Aaron looks over his shoulder. The day he allow himself to marry Annie on that farce of a marriage; it was done for a very specific reason. He briefly looked at the wedding ring and smiles. He has perfected the act of playing the fool. The rich enjoys humiliating the servants and they especially enjoy talking around them like they are invisible fools.
The question that still puzzles him, what happened to Annie while he was still asleep? Once he was rudely awakened, there was a shift in balance.
"Boss," his trusted man intrude in his thoughts.
"What did you learn?"
"Gregor Damian seems to have covered his tracks well, sir."
Aaron looks at the computer screen. He can see the worry in his employees face.
"I don't understand. What is the point in keeping my mother hidden? What I really want to know who authorized that I was shown that she died only to hide her from me?" Aaron carefully brushes over the back of his head.
"I am a very wealthy man but someone apart from Gregor and his games managed to completely conceal my mother. I sometimes think it's to create the idea she was dead." "We will know the truth sir. Do you still sense someone watching you?"
"Yes, that's why I play the blind fool and the gardener." Aaron looks over his shoulder. The rest of the workers know to stay away from the garden shed.
"I am surprise that no one figured out your sight is back. I send you a package. Your name is written on it." "What is it Mathew?"
"I don't know sir. It's covered in ugly brown paper. I am still confused about the change in Annie. First she was frightened now a completely different person. Since you said your improved wife likes shiny things, I took a gamble that she won't open it."
"I am not so sure about my wife. I regret so many things but mostly what's happening with her. Did you learn where my son might be?"
"No sir. Do you think that might be the reason why Annie also changed so much?"
"I really don't know. She is making a point of staying away from me."
"Is she still ignorant about your sight? Then again, people only see what they want."
"Yes. Did you manage to acquire the beach house?"
"I did, sir. I had gotten a crew to do the necessary renovations."
"Good. In the meantime, follow whatever lead you have. We must find my mother and another thing, my old driver Manny, what happened to him? Find out if he had a family." Aaron disconnects the line. He carefully placed the computer in the corner. He slipped from the shed closing the door behind him. He walks towards the main house the tapping sound of his cane sounding his approaching melody.
"Aaron, where are you?"
Annie calls impatiently from the sun room. She looked at the small brown paper package that was delivered this morning. With no regard to whom it was addressed too, she had opened it.
"You called my dear?" Aaron smiles as he enters the room. As usual he carries freshly cut roses. He places it in a beautiful vase on the table close to his wife. He stood upright facing her now attentively behind his dark glasses. "I am curious, for a blind fool, why are you always so bloody cheerful?"
"It's a beautiful day my dear."
"Well, let me be honest, your whole attitude is annoying me." She said snappishly.
"I don't understand, Annie. What's wrong with you? The woman I married, you completely changed."
"How dare you question my behavior Aaron?" a quick brief twist played around her lips but was instantly gone.
"I have all the right in the world, Annie. I am your husband. If you are not feeling well, please tell me. As a blind man I am more in-tune with my surroundings and people. You have changed. You were once afraid now you are just mean." She stood and with one swipe the beautiful vase landed on the floor in pieces.
"Annie, what is really going on?" He was very concerned.
"Who are you?" she asks with rising fury.
"I am Aaron Casey, your husband." He said with his usual smile.
Aaron look at the package Annie had thrown at his feet his eyes still on the door through which she just stormed. He looks into the already opened package. He found a mysterious ring.
"What am I supposed to do with this?" he questions himself. He knows it must be important for Mathew to make sure he gets it. He just found it curious that Annie opened it.
"Excuse me, Aaron." The boy makes him aware of his surroundings.
"What is wrong Danny?" He placed the ring on his finger without thinking twice. A quick shudder went through his body. He quickly blinked twice before he smiled in his usual manner. "Chef de Luca asks that you cut a dozen roses and fill it within vases."
"Why?"
"Gregor Damian was holding a dinner tonight."
"Okay.” Aaron moved to clean the mess in the sun room. Danny quickly helped him.
"Don't you have other chores?"
"I told Chef de Luca I would help you. Aren't you going to dinner too?" Danny asks as he follows him towards the gardens.
"I am not much for social things Danny." He said softly. He looks at the ring on his finger once he was certain the boy wasn't looking his way.
"I know your secret sir." Danny said softly. "You should be more careful, especially in the gardens."
"What do you mean?" Aaron keeps his voice very low.
"I know you can see behind those dark glasses, sir."
Aaron slowly removes his glasses looking directly at the boy.
