Billionaire's Regret -
Chapter 49:
Annie enters her study in her mother's house. The memories immediately come flooding back. She stood motionless letting everything settles within her. The first time the idea entered her mind to be a writer was when she was five month pregnant and very worried about not having an income. The notion was finally settled in her mind when her unborn baby seemed very pleased with the words coming out of her mouth.
"Do you remember anything Annie?" Hanna makes her presence known.
"I do." Annie slowly walked towards her desk. She noticed the fax in the printer. Reaching out she took hold of the single paper.
"Mom, what is this?" she looked at the words but was slow in understanding.
Hanna comes closer quickly to read what was written.
"Isn't dad in jail?" Annie looked confused.
"Wow Annie, it's clear your memory is mixed up. I am going to put the kettle on. It's time we talk and discover what you know and what you have forgotten."
Annie went and sits behind her desk. She just sits there searching her memory. A frown appeared between her eyes when she reached into the nearest drawer and removed the single file. She flip it opened finding the divorce papers. A quick look and she knew just like she remembered, Aaron has thrown her out of the house without knowing she was pregnant.
"Now; the question why does Leo knew him to be his father," Getting up she went in search of her mother.
Aaron climbed from the taxi. He stood looking at the building that never seemed too recovered from the damage done by the fire. He just stood looking trying to fit the fragmented pieces together. It was clear this place had character once but now its rundown and the place for the homeless.
He step across the road and entered through what was once a door. He find himself in a kind of trance as he just keeps moving forward. It suddenly feels like he might have swallowed smoke. The very idea immediately made him start coughing. He looks around but there was nothing smoking. He now stood in front of the manager's door knocking loudly. He just instinctively knows there isn't anyone. It feels like he was walking back into the past.
"What's going on?" he cough again deeply. He now turns and headed for the stairs. He was climbing it with a now kind of familiarity. He reaches the last door down the hall, and discovered that there was no door. The damaged done by the fire was faded but still telling its truth. As he stood in the door he can see in his memory the frightened girl who had opened the door, the next moment he heard the loud explosion. It felt like something was tearing his skin apart. Try as he might he just can't seem to see in front of him.
"What's happening to me?" he tries rubbing across his face but he still can't see.
The sudden strong hand pulls him onto his feet. He tries to shake himself lose then stumbles. Another memory flashes in his mind. He sees himself as a boy being thrown from his home. "Sir, what's going on?"
Aaron shakes his head while keeping his eyes closed. Somewhere in his mind he starts to recognize the voice talking to him. This time he allows him to help him balanced against the wall. "What is going on sir? Did something happen?"
"I am not sure. Where did you come from?" Aaron finally managed to stand upright. His sight was still blurry but it was now better than being blind.
"Mathew?"
"I am here sir."
"I need to drink something. Is here someplace where we could talk?"
"I see a coffee shop; I am just not sure about the clientele."
"It doesn't matter."
Aaron starts to walk beside his driver. He was still careful with his movements. His heart was still rising. He was in reality very frightened for a moment. He hopes Annie was okay. Something definitely happened to them both. "Mom, where are you?"
"I am making us all something to eat. It would seem you have neglected the fact that boys are constantly hungry."
"I have a question." Annie sits down beside the table. Her mother placed a cup of coffee in front of her. "What do you want to know?"
Annie looked out the kitchen window. Her son was playing monkey catch me with Ricky. This naughty teenager has surprisingly turned into nice older type of brother-friend to her son. A typical case of don't judge the book by its cover. "Honey, what is on your mind?"
"Aaron, I am confused."
"It doesn't surprise me. What do you know?"
"I can't even seem to remember what had happened yesterday. I was startled awake when Leo called me. I found an equally confused Aaron."
"I wonder if Gregor Damian has anything to do with this." Hanna looked worried. "He did say we all will regret what we did to him."
"Mom the more you are telling me things the more confused I am getting. How did Aaron and I get together again?"
"I am not sure about the details but what I do know, he helped and paid for my medical treatment in Switzerland. We stayed there for a while. Then I returned back to Cape Cove and you went with him. You called and told me to arrange that Leo come and stayed with you. I am still waiting to hear why Aaron has brought him to me and make me leave Cape Cove. I assume it had something to do with Damian. That man's obsession with you is worrisome." "And he is who again?"
"A man you father led into our lives. Since he was released from prison he tried to erase his bad choices but it isn't that easy."
Annie just sits there looking out the window but nothing seemed to registrar in her memory. The headache was still there but less hurtful.
