Billionaire's Regret -
Chapter 50:
Hanna Black looks carefully over her shoulders. She doesn't notice anyone out of character. In a way it has become normal for her to be constantly on the lookout for anyone following her. She carefully crosses the street entering the park.
Apart from the usual bums she doesn't see him yet.
Uncertain as to what she should do she stood looking around. She knows she can't be here too long as Annie doesn't know she has slipped from the house.
"Don't look around," Thom Black suddenly appeared behind her.
"Why I didn't notice anyone?"
"Maybe I am just being paranoid." Thom now stood beside her.
Hanna looked at the man who was the father of her only child. It is clear time wasn't kind to him as the damages were visible on his face.
"Why did you call Hanna? I must admit I was surprise."
"I feel expose in the park but I don't want to be far from the house either." Hanna looks around again.
"What is going on?"
"Something is wrong with Annie." She said straightforward.
"What do you mean?" Thom grabbed hold of her arm. He turns her to face him directly.
"I am not sure. Annie doesn't remember certain things. It looks like her life is a kind of blank." Hanna watches him looking alarmed.
"Where is Aaron?"
"Thom, what is going on? You seem to know something."
"Where is Aaron?" he asked again.
"He went into the city. Tell me what I should know." Hanna feels very uneasy.
The solitude woman sits in the chair just looking out the window. Years have past but her life has stop moving forward. Everything changed the day her ex-husband betrayed her and her son. She had only known fear for a long time until she took control but the regret never leaves her heart or her mind.
She looked at the cell phone in her hand when it rings. This was now her only communication with the outside world.
"Hello Thom," she said softly.
"I am on speaker phone with Hanna." He said formally.
"What can I do for you?"
"May we come over for a brief moment? I want to introduce you to Hanna."
"You sound concern Thom."
"I am. Something happened but I don't want to talk online."
"I am waiting for you Thom." The line went dead. Her troubled gaze travels through the window again.
"Thom what's going on?" Hanna looked confused at him but follows as he was walking in the direction of the few estates around that was neglected from absent owners. Cape Cove isn't that big but it is a place with various characters. "Just trust me this once. I know you don't have any reason to."
"Who was that woman on the phone?"
"Aaron's mother." He said as he stops to look at her. There seem to be a look of guilt and shame that puzzles her.
"Annie said she died. How is she still alive?"
"It's a complicated story. Here we are." Thom opened the side gate and hold it opened. Once Hanna step through he closes it again.
As they both walked towards the door Hanna noticed the lone person sitting close to the window. She stood a moment trying to place the woman but she can't make her out.
"In here Hanna."
Thom and Hanna enter and closed the door. It was clear there was no cleaning service as the floor was covered in heavy dust. They both walked towards the second level and enter the first door. "Hello Thom,"
"I am sorry for the intrusion. This is my ex-wife Hanna."
Hanna step inside. She briefly looked around the almost barren suite. She only noticed a single bed. In the corner stood a small table with just the basic food and drink essentials. She finally looked at the woman. She very quietly shucked in her breath.
"I know I am a sight." The woman said softly. "What do you need to know Hanna?"
"Who are you?" Hanna step closer and bravely went and sit down in the only other chair. It was covered in dust but she doesn't care.
"I no longer know who I am. But once upon a time I was the mother of a twelve year old boy. His name is Aaron Casey." She looked out the window as a single tear streamed down her face. "I no longer carry a name." she said softly. Hanna can feel the emotions waving from the other woman. It was clear she had a troubled life. She start to wonder what on earth could have gotten so terrible wrong.
"Why did Thom bring me here?"
"Why did you Thom?"
"Something happened to Aaron and her."
"What do you mean?" The transformation on her face was immediate. She suddenly stood.
"Hanna, what do you know?"
"Annie called me this morning. She was confused telling me she doesn't remember things in her life." Hanna looked closely at the other woman. It's hard to judge certain expressions on her scared face.
"Did she complain about headaches?"
"As a matter of fact yes," Hanna frowns heavily.
"Annie should bring Aaron to me. I made a point of making him believe I am dead. I can't hide any longer. He should know the truth about what had happened to me." The woman starts circling the suite before going to stand in front of the window looking out.
"Thom both of you should leave." She said urgently.
"What's happening?" Thom moved towards the window but she stopped him.
"The doctor is heading this way. I don't want him to know I am in contact with people." She said again urgently. "Thom, take the back entrance. I managed to find a key to unlock it but keep the door close."
"What a moment Hanna," Thom carefully look around the corner. The young looking doctor still dressed in his hospital scrubs enters the mansion. "We should hurry before he reaches the upstairs level."
Thom reaches for Hanna's hand using the heavily weeded garden as cover. Unfortunately they will be briefly exposed when they reach the gate. Both looked back towards the upstairs window seeing the doctor looking directly at them.
