Blurred Lines 1: CHASE -
Chapter 10
-Sofia-
Rays of sunshine slanted through the curtain gaps. Rolling on my back blinked back at the spotless off white ceding
Last night's whirlwind emotions still made me dizzy. The pain of knowing Kyle pushed through with his threat hit me hard in the gut I hoped he d give it more time and a little respect for what we had, Not to mention the gossip that would surround my name in the office with his friends and mine its not a secret that we were engaged for f*ck's sake!
Groaning. I laid on my tummy and buried my face in the pillow. The future I built around our relationship truly vanished just like that Kyle and I are indeed over, and I need to pick up what's left of my heart the tiny pieces around my feet. My alarm trumpeted It's time to move on for today
One step at a time, I dragged my heavy body out of bed. Rubbing my eyes, I walked out of the room. Smack!
I held my forehead stumbling back to the still ajar door. A brawny, warm arm curled around my waist, sliding deliciously beneath my thin silk top.
Sight unsteady. I stared at the intruder, ready to scream but held speechless when I met Chase's piercing blue eyes.
"You okay?" he rasped out, his eyes roaming over my face, down my neck and chest His gaze lingered there longer than it should have, but I didn't have the strength to protest.
Nothing but gray joggers hung around his hips. His chest, dusted with soft hairs, gleamed with water droplets, and so did the tips of his hair.
Did he just get out of the shower?
I sniffed, hoping it was subtle enough, and smelled ocean and mint and fresh rain.
Yes, he just got out of the shower, and my G*d, his scent remained the same. I never knew a smell could pull out all the memories buried away by time.
"Sofia?" Chase ho*ked a finger beneath my chin, forcing me to meet his eyes. "Are you okay"
"No," I blurted out. His eyebrows crinkled. "I hit my forehead and you smell so good."
Chase's lips pursed, suppressing a smile, but his eyes couldn't he
"Sh*t I pulled away from him My checks are probably as red as a cooked lobster looked anywhere but at the man before me, but it was a challenge for my curious eyes not to peer again at his well defined body Chase had always taken great care of his body Each ridge and hill of his torso were packed to perfection 1 wonder how it would feel to run my fingers over his six pack abs My gaze trailed lower. A happy trail that leads somewhere forbidden peeks from his joggers.
He crossed his arms, and my eyes followed each flex of his muscles.
"Done lusting over my body. Sunshine
"What?" I looked up meeting his eyes. They tw*nkled with mischief, which only made my checks born further I've seen better lied At least in person, I wanted to add Kyle had a great body too but he could never compare to Chase
Chase loved outdoor sports I wonder if he still played basketball Kyle on the other hand doesn't enjoy playing any kind of sports. He runs, but he d mostly get his muscles toned in the gym I never knew the difference between working out and actually playing sports until now or was it just my imagination my not.
"Yeah" Chase chuckled, dark eyes trailing down my body shamelessly fought the urge to cover my self the was peeling off the silk top and shorts I was well aware that he could see the outline of my breast My traitorous nipples puckered when his gaze dallied there Warmth skates where his eyes had been down my belly, past my hips and legs.
"Done ogling?" I asked not able to tolerate the effect of his stare This situation is turning more interesting than it should.
"Not yet," he said. "Would you turn around for me? Do a little twirl like a ballerina would?"
Stunned, I gaped at him, cheeks smoldering in flames. He was making fun of me just like old times.
Yes, Chase and I were close, but not a day passed when he didn't make fun of me.
I groaned, stomping back inside the room. The door closing m*ffled Chase's laughter.
I wasn't particular about the clothes I wore at work. But since my encounter with Chase earlier, I had been ogling what few clothes I packed in a hurry.
I need to buy new clothes today. It will cut off a chunk from my savings, but five pairs of work attire will do me no good, especially when I'll be alongside Chase Montiero almost every day from now on.
Last night, I did a few more diggings about Chase's new life when he left the penthouse, or at least I thought he did. It was part of my research, but when I noticed how extensive his collection of women had been for the last five years, it left a stinging sensation in my chest. He'd been busy, super busy, which equates to a lot of work for me. Stepping out of the room, the delicious aroma of coffee, bacon, and pancakes hit my senses.
Chase sat by the breakfast bar. In front of him were two large plates teeming with bacon, pancakes, eggs, and tomatoes sided with toasted bread, orange juice, and coffee. He holds a newspaper, eyes scanning every line meticulously.
He folded the newspaper and set it aside. Blue eyes regarding me unabashedly from head to toe. It made the butterflies in my belly go crazy. I did the same, studying him just for the hell of it. I was disappointed not to get a glimpse of his bare chest again, but he looked more edible than the food on the counter, even with clothes on.
He left the first three buttons of his white dress shirt undone. In reality, that dress shirt looked plain and casual, but Chase wore it like it was worth a thousand bucks.
"Hey, Sunshine?" Chase drew my eyes from ogling his chest.
"Hm?" I pretended to be disinterested in him.
"You're drooling," he said, pointing to the side of his lips.
I lift my hand to wipe the side of my mouth, coming up dry as a dessert.
Chase chuckled, shaking his head as he sipped his coffee.
I grumbled, plonking on the stool across from him.
"Eat up," he said. "We have a long day ahead of us."
I rolled my eyes, stabbing the bacon. "No doubt about it."
