Epperly finally fell asleep in my arms. She cried for two straight hours. I don’t blame her but it’s hard to watch my mate in so much pain, knowing I can only do so much. She fought against me when I tried to pusher calming waves to her but thankfully I won.

I started to whisper random thoughts I had about her into her ear as I ran a hand through her long dark hair. Now she is finally sleeping. I held her close to me still. I’m not ready to let her go yet. Not after everything we just read.

When Epperly had first told me about this part of her life I was already pretty angry. Kohen was furious at that time. It took a lot to calm him down. Our mate didn’t go into a lot of detail and at the time I was thankful. But this… This was not what I was expecting at all.

How could these people do this to a child? They have been experimenting on her since she was six months old. Six f*****g months old. What kind of person does that?

These humans treat us supernaturals like we are nothing but trash. At least we never experiment on each other or them. Not that I am aware of anyways. And I didn’t understand what the purpose was. When it came to the other labs that we had broken into, those humans wanted power. They wanted to be like us but more.

This… this is different. It was more like a science experiment than it was anything. Although, they did force Epperly to kill a few high up politicians. It just doesn’t make much sense to me.

Also, how did they know what Epperly and her mother were? Kiah said that he was sure Sandra had no idea what she was. Did she lie to him or did he lie to me? And how did humans kidnap the mate of an Alpha?

Lockern said in the chaos of the challenge they were able to grab Sandra, but they couldn’t have been working alone. Someone from our world were helping these humans. If Kiah didn’t already kill them, I would my damn self.

Kohen growled in agreement.

Kohen felt the loss of Adria the most. Well, maybe aside from Epperly. It was strange. Almost like he knew her and lost her all in one moment. Something isn’t right. I need to talk to Kee. She should be able to help. Kee can look into my mates head and possibly find Adria.

Worth a shot.

I sighed.

Sandra has been dead for years. My heart went out to Kiah. I couldn’t ever imagine losing Epperly. Just the thought of it had me pulling her closer. Part of me is glad that Epperly never opened that file. I’m not sure what would have happened if I wasn’t here to support her, to calm her.

My mate didn’t deserve any of this.

I looked down at Epperly’s sleeping face. She looks so peaceful now. My beautiful and strong mate.

“I can’t erase the past you have, but I can give you a brighter future.” I whispered and then kissed her nose.

Epperly scrunched her face up and then sighed dreamily. I smiled down at her and then lay her on the bed next to me. Epperly snuggled into my side and I covered her up. I really don’t want to leave her but I need to talk to Kee.

Kee. I reached out through the link.

I can hear your thoughts all the way from here. I’m on my way. She replied instantly.

I smiled. Of course Kee could hear me.

I kissed my mates head and then slid out of our bed. Epperly whimpered in her sleep and then pulled my pillow against her. I chuckled as she hugged it and inhaled deeply. She seeks my comfort.

“Don’t worry my love. I will be right back.” I whispered to her before kissing her head again and leaving the room.

I checked on Tate, who is knocked out in the most uncomfortable looking postion. After fixing him to lay normally I walked to the kitchen. Kee was sitting at my kitchen island on one of the stools when I got there.

“You could have turned a light on you weirdo.” I told her as I walked to the cupboard and pulled out a bottle of Bexley’s famous liquor.

“Maybe I was trying to scare you.” Kee told me.

I pulled a couple of glasses from another cupboard and poured us a drink.

“Cause I couldn’t smell you or anything.” I said.

Kee slid the glass back to me.

“You do realize that I am a recovering addict right?” She asked.

My eyes went wide.

“f**k. I’m sorry Kee.” I said as I took her glass, downed it, and then put everything to away. “I wasn’t thinking.” I admitted.

“It’s alright. You can still drink if you want though.” She offered.

I shook my head.

“No. I just needed something to take the edge off. That was enough.” I told her with a smile.

“The file was that bad huh?” She asked.

My smile fell.

“Wow… worse than we were expecting.” My sister said after skimming my thoughts.

“I need to get her wolf back.” I told Kee.

“I know. Epperly needs her.” My sister said.

“Can you… look into her mind? See if you can find anything? Hear anything?” I practically begged.

“Tia is going to be furious if she finds out.” Kee said softly.

“She’s letting you help unlock her brain.” I countered.

Kee nodded.

“I was only even allowed at that meeting because Pops thought it would be good to have someone who could read minds there. I took it upon myself to undo the seal on Epperly. Tia is not happy with me right now at all.” She told me.

“Why does Tia do this to you Kee? Haven’t you proved yourself enough?” I asked.

Kee gave me a small smile and looked down at her hands.

“I think I have only proven that she can’t trust me. After… getting clean I have been trying, but I still have secrets. Secrets that I can’t tell Tia and she is taking it personally.” My sister gave me the vaguest explaination she could.

But that’s Kee.

“Maybe you should tell her something then.” I offered.

Kee chuckled.

“It’s not that easy.” I opened my mouth to argue but Kee shook her head. “I can’t Ambrose. If she can’t respect that then there is nothing I can do.” She said.

“Tia just worries about you. She has good reason to Kee.” I said softly.

Kee rolled her eyes.

“Just because I was kidnapped when I was a teenager doesn’t mean I’m fragile. I wish you all would quit treating me like I am.” She said.

I nodded.

“Okay. Then let’s get back to it.” I said. “Kee did they… experiment on you?” I asked her softly.

My little sister has never talked about her time being kidnapped. She spent two years with those disgusting humans, but she never talked about it with anyone. No matter how hard we all tried.

Kee took a deep breath.

“Not like with Epperly. That was completely different.” She told me.

I just nodded in response.

There goes my one shot at trying to figure out why they were even experimenting on her.

“Are you any closer to unlocking the seal?” I asked my sister.

“Somewhat. I’m going to meet with some contacts tomorrow. I might be gone for a few days, but I am hoping that when I come back we can give a few things a go. It should have been weakened in the very least after your marking. That might be how she was able to mark you back.” Kee told me.

I nodded.

“That would make sense. Apparently the Moon Goddess has complete faith in you.” I told her.

“You should be proud of yourself to recieve such a compliment from our Goddess.” I said.

Kee smiled.

“I am.” She said honestly before her smile fell. “I just wish that Tia could have some of that faith in me too.” She said.

I put my hand on top of my sisters.

“She will come around eventually Kee. Tia can’t stay mad at you forever.” I said.

“Sure she can.” Kee grumbled making me chuckle at her.

“I don’t think so. Having kids made her soft.” I said with a laugh.

Kee laughed at that too. Then her body went rigid. I looked her up and down.

“You okay?” I asked but Kee just stared down the hallway. “Kee?” I asked again.

“Shh.” She ordered me as she got up and walked to the hallway.

“Kee?” I asked again.

My sisters eyes snapped to mine.

“Is there someone other than your mate here?” She asked.

I frowned. “Tate is asleep.”

Kee waved her hand off.

“Not him someone el-” Kee stopped mid sentence as her eyes went wide.

“Kee?” I asked worried.

“Shh!” She shushed me while putting her hand up.

Kee closed her eyes for a few minutes. I wanted to ask if she was alright but was afraid to speak. Then her eyes popped back open.

“Oh my Goddess..” She breathed out.

“What?” I asked impatiently.

“Skoll knows too?” She asked.

“Knows what?” I asked.

Kee closed her eyes again. I was growing more and more impatient. What the f**k is going on?

“He can hear her.. She’s been trying to break through all this whole time.. Skoll made her stronger and then..” Kee mumbled and then looked at me. “She found her mate..”

“What the f**k are you talking about?” I asked angrily.

“Adria.” Kee stated and it felt like my heart stopped.

“You can hear her?” I asked.

Kee nodded.

“So can Skoll. Adria is there. She always has been. She was asleep for so long.. Skoll waking up inside Tate woke Adria. She’s been fighting to break through… something. A barrier maybe? Something inside of Epperly’s head. Then you marked her and Adria’s will grew. She’s… breaking through. I think it’s just going to take time..” Kee said.

“Wait.. You think that Adira is right there under the surface?” I asked.

Kee nodded.

“I can hear her. She’s in pain..” Kee said sadly. “She’s fighting though. For her son, for her mate, for…” Kee’s eyes went wide.

“What?” I asked.

“Nothing.” Kee said.

I frowned at her. “Really?” I asked.

Kee shrugged and walked to my front door.

“I have things to do before I leave tomorrow. I’ll come by and see if I can still hear Adria. I couldn’t before so I’m not really sure.” She told me.

“Wait!” I said when she was about to walk through the door.

Kee turned around to face me.

“What aren’t you telling me?” I asked with narrowed eyes.

Kee shrugged.

“You’ll find out by the time I get back.” She said and then walked through the door before I could stop her.

What the hell does that mean?

The next morning I woke up to my stupid alarm going off. I wish that I could call into work after the night that I had, but I knew that wasn’t an option. Shutting the alarm off I rolled over and wrapped my arm around my mate. Epperly snuggled into me and sighed.

“I don’t wanna get up.” She whined quietly.

“Me either.” I whined back.

Epperly giggled and kissed my chest.

“Let’s play hooky for one day.” She suggested.

I chuckled at her.

“No can do babe. I have to take care of an extra few things this week. Spring break is coming up. The BOC doesn’t get the break but I do need to prep a few things at the school for your da…. old pack to come.” I told her.

“I do have something in mind to occupy your days though.” I offered.

Epperly turned those purple and gold eyes to me.

“Really?” She asked.

I nodded.

“It isn’t bar tending but… I was thinking that maybe you could come with me in the mornings to training. You don’t have to stay for the whole day or do anything but I think it will be beneficial for you. You can learn to fight and we can even work on your powers and control.” I offered.

Epperly frowned at me.

“I know how to fight and control my powers.” She argued.

I chuckled as I got out of bed.

“Control your new powers, and I’m sure you know how to fight baby… but you don’t know how to fight like me.” I said.

Epperly huffed as she followed me into the bathroom.

“How would you know that?” She asked.

I shrugged and looked her up and down.

“Just a good guesser.” I said.

Epperly’s jaw dropped and her eyes narrowed at me. I kept her gaze as I stripped out of my boxers. Epperly’s eyes traveled down my body. L**t sparked through our bond.

I chuckled.

“You fell asleep crying last night.. I just want to make sure you are alright.” I told her.

Epperly nodded and bit her bottom l*p.

“I think so. I just… want to move on now. I want to try and find Adria. Do you think that she could still be inside of me?” She asked.

“That’s what I want to talk to you about.” I said. “After you fell asleep I asked Kee to come over. If anyone could find your wolf inside your head it would be her.”

“Did she find anything?” Epperly asked impatiently.

I nodded. “She heard Adria.” I told her.

Epperly’s excitement hit me like a f*****g train through the bond. On the outside she’s still just blinking at me. But my mate is over the moon to hear the news.

“She… Really?” Epperly asked me.

I nodded.

“Kee said that Skoll has been able to hear her too. She said that Adria seemed to be in some kind of deep sleep and as soon as Skoll woke within Tate she woke too. To protect her cub. Kee thinks that when we marked each other it weakened the seal. She said that she could hear Adria fighting to break through something that is blocking her from you. Kee seemed pretty sure that with time and maybe some meditation, Adria and you can find each other again.” I told her.

Epperly blinked at me as tears filled her eyes.

“Re… really?” She breathed out.

I nodded and stood up.

“Yes baby. I know this is a lot to take in and we are going to do some meditating later but right now we need to get Tate up.” I told her.

Epperly wiped her eyes and stood with me. I pulled her into my arms and kissed her soft lips. Her mood lifted slightly so I pulled away and gently pulled her out of our room.

Tate wasn’t in his room but in the kitchen with a poptart in hand. I chuckled at him. Guess Epperly and I still can’t do a quickie.

“Hey buddy, you thirsty?” I asked my son.

Tate nodded happily.

“Honey why don’t you sit at the table and I’ll bring you some cereal.” Epperly offered.

“Okay Momma.” Tate agreed and then walked to the table.

Epperly got enough bowls and spoons out for all of us. She grabbed the box of Lucky Charms and the gallon of milk from the fridge. My mate poured our son a bowl and then got one of her own. After Tate’s b***d was done I joined them at the table.

“You excited for school today buddy?” I asked Tate.

“Yeah.” Tate said much less cheery than usual.

Epperly and I shared a look before turning back to our son.

Tate sighed and then looked up at us.

“Who is Adria?”
