With a gentle smile, Clara’s mother glanced at Clara before her eyes fell on Rachel again.

“Joey is a bit shy, so he didn’t come with us,” Rachel said, slowly looking up to meet Mrs.

Jimenez’s gaze.

“I see.

He’s only three years younger than Riley, isn’t he?”

Rachel gave a small nod in response.

After a pause, Mrs.

Jimenez finally asked, “Does Victor know about your son?”

“He does.” Rachel didn’t plan to hide it.

Mrs.

Jimenez’s face darkened, and her tone became serious.

“Then what does he think about your son? And how about you? What are your thoughts about the child?”

“Victor never stated anything clearly, perhaps because Joey’s birth came unexpected to him.

But if he demands custody, I will fight him in court.

I won’t give my son to him no matter what it takes,”

Rachel said slowly but firmly.

The frown on Mrs.

Jimenez’s face deepened.

Clara could tell her mother wasn’t satisfied with Rachel’s answer.

Worried that her mother would say something bad, Clara stood up.

“Rachel, I just remembered I bought Joey some clothes when I went out shopping for Riley’s clothes two days ago.

They’re upstairs.

I’ll show them to you.

Come,” Clara butted in.

She reached out to take Rachel’s hand and led her upstairs.

Jimenez suddenly cleared her throat, stopping Clara in her tracks before she could get a hold of Rachel’s hand.

“Clara, I think it’s time for Riley’s milk.

You go ahead and put her to bed.” It was clear Mrs.

Jimenez wanted Clara to leave.

Clara pressed her lips.

“The maid can do it, Mom.

I’ll stay here for a bit.

I’ll go and check in Riley’s room once Roger comes down.”

Jimenez was obviously displeased, but she said nothing.

Clara sat down, her shoulders dropping.

She knew her mother wanted to set things straight with Rachel without anyone interfering.

“Rachel,” Mrs.

Jimenez called out, her voice soft and pleasant.

But Rachel knew Mrs.

Jimenez wasn’t up for small talk.

“Whatever you want to say, Mrs.

Jimenez, just say it.

It’s fine,”

Rachel said with a smile.
