Captivation: Want Nothing But You -
Chapter 1392
“You’re smart.
Well, I don’t want to beat around the bush either.
I hope you don’t hold it against me if I’m too direct.” It was hard to read what was going on in Mrs.
Jimenez’s mind through her eyes as they darted at Rachel.
“It’s about you and my son,” Mrs.
Jimenez said.
“Two days ago, Roger told us he wished to marry you.
But to be honest, his father and I were against it.
You see, Roger is always kind and gentle to people.
But he can be very stubborn, especially when it comes to his relationships.
We were surprised to know he still has feelings for you after so many years.
When you had an accident four years ago, he almost drowned himself in alcohol.
It was the first time we had seen him so devastated.
We never really concluded the reason behind him acting that way until recently, when he told us that he was serious about marrying you.
We realized you were the reason, so when he said he wanted to be with you and asked for our support…”
Mrs.
Jimenez paused for a few seconds to control her emotions before continuing, “We couldn’t openly disagree because he is our only son.
I think you understand what I’m trying to say.
You also have a child.
As parents, we only want what’s best for our children.
You know, you resemble your mother a lot, Rachel.
Not only in appearance but also in character.
I was a little surprised that Roger fell in love with you, but I now understand.
You are as attractive as your mother, who also had a lot of admirers back then.
Well, I’m sorry I’ve said so much.
I just really want to say that I hope you-“
“Mom!” Roger appeared in the living room when he overheard his mother and cut her off.
In order to safeguard Rachel, Roger moved forward.
He grimaced and said, “Mom, remember what you promised me yesterday.”
Roger coming down so quickly was not what Cynthia had anticipated.
She got to her feet and saw her husband entering the Living room.
However, Philip’s expression soured as he heard what Roger said to his wife.
“She’s your mom, Watch your words.
Philip spoke in a low tone of disapproval.
Roger pressed his thin lips into a straight Line.
Philip was infuriated upon seeing this.
Roger was blaming Cynthia for
Rachel’s sake.
And this made Philip unhappy.
When Clara saw what was happening, she immediately stepped in to intervene.
“Roger was only concerned about Rachel.
He had no other intent.”
“No other intent?” Philip sneered.
“From what I can see, she’s the only one he cares for.
Not even his own mother is important to him.”
Still, Philip felt it was not enough after saying that.
He said to
Roger, “You couldn’t wait for your mother’s remarks to conclude.
Did you worry that your mom would hurt Rachel?”
“Enough.
I can’t believe you’d say anything like that about your son.”
Cynthia tugged on Philip’s sleeve.
After a quick look at his wife, Philip decided to keep his mouth shut.
