Hector couldn’t make sense of anything.

“What are you saying, kid?”

“I’ve alerted the police, and they’ll arrive in about nine minutes.”

“What?” Hector’s head was spinning.

Alerted the police? How did he call the cops?

“Kid, you’re not supposed to lie,” Hector said, still not believing it.

They had been conversing with him staring at the kid the whole time.

The fact that the Little guy was capable of anything beyond what he saw eluded him.

How was it that he called the cops on him?

Though he was quite old, he had a clear vision.

He couldn’t believe that Joey could call the police while he was watching.

“Only eight minutes remain.”

“Do you think I come off as a horrible man, kid? There could be some misunderstanding between us.”

As usual, Joey showed no emotion.

“I don’t believe that dishonest individuals ever confess that they are dishonest.”

That little kid was trying to tell him he gave off a bad guy’s impression.

The words from Joey left Hector unable to respond.

Even he had to concede to the youngster’s point of view.

“Six minutes.”

As the time approached, the elderly gentleman in front of Joey did not seem to be at all anxious, prompting him to question whether or not he was indeed not a bad person.

It was also possible that this person was just faking calmness.

“Six minutes left? The cops are too sluggish! If it were in the past, they would have come in five minutes at most!” Hector held up five fingers as he spoke.

He tore open a candy wrapper and popped a sweet treat into his mouth.

Did human traffickers like bragging? Joey pondered the question in his mind.

Hector began to share stories from his life.

“To be honest, I’m not a terrible man.

In fact, I used to capture evil men.

I have caught more bad guys than you have ever seen.

Back then, I could catch two bad guys at once.”

It was just six minutes remaining, but perhaps it was all Hector needed to get off on a rambling recount of his life’s events.

The minutes ticked by as if they were nothing.

Joey looked at the time on his wrist.

It had been ten minutes, but still, no police vehicle had arrived.

Hector’s eyebrows went up in surprise.

The candy was all gone.

“Why can’t I see the police? Are they still coming?”

Joey kept his mouth shut and his expression stone.
