Captivation: Want Nothing But You -
Chapter 1396
It appeared that he was well into his seventies, but he showed no signs of physical discomfort.
A dry wail was all he could muster.
Joey started being extra cautious.
His little face was rigid, and his tiny lips were contracted into a straight line.
He remained silent.
The elderly gentleman extended a hand and waited for Joey to assist him.
Joey, on the other hand, did nothing but stand aside and stare at him.
The elderly man’s hand froze mid-air.
What was the boy thinking by not coming to help him? He, like Victor, lacked some natural warmth and was on constant alert around other people.
The elderly guy acting painfully was Hector, who earlier in the day had used his walking stick to brutally strike Victor in the questioning room.
When Hector saw that Joey was on high alert to strangers, he didn’t know whether to feel relieved or helpless.
He was unable to get up on such a frigid day, despite his continued vitality.
“ALL right, I’d best get up by myself,” Hector said, carefully standing up.
“Kid, are you at home alone?”
Hector managed to stay on his feet and use his stick to make his way to the gate.
Joey took a few precautionary steps back.
His black eyes were filled with a feeling of apprehension and it seemed that he was going to leave at any moment.
In light of this, Hector understood that his question painted him in a negative light.
He coughed and said helpless, “Kid, don’t be scared.
I’m not a bad guy.”
Not a peep came out of Joey’s mouth.
Hector fished around in his pocket thoroughly.
He took out two candies and reached out his hand.
“Here you go.
After you take the candies, we’ll be friends.
What do you say?”
The elderly guy first claimed to be in agony before attempting to offer him sweets.
He seemed to be a human trafficker.
Joey activated the display on his watch and pressed the watch’s side bulge twice.
After that, he examined the sweets that were held in the palm of the elderly man’s hand.
He asked in a cold voice, “Who are you, old man?”
He not only looked like Victor but sounded like him too.
“Child, I’m an adult.
You cannot speak to me in this manner,” Hector said in a soft voice.
He believed it was not too late to correct
Joey’s bad attitude.
“I don’t know you,” Joey said coldly.
“Forget about it.
You have around ten minutes to leave.”
“What ?”
Joey glanced at his watch and then said, “Now, there are just nine minutes remaining.”
