Captivation: Want Nothing But You -
Chapter 1395
“Lila,” Joey called out softly.
“Okay.” Lila couldn’t bear turning down Joey’s kind offer and smiled.
She then filled a bowl of soup for him and sat on the chair across from him.
Leaning over, Joey picked up two pieces of spareribs and placed them on Lila’s plate.
“You eat too, Lila.”
Nodding warmly, Lila ate the spareribs with gusto.
They tasted heavenly, melting her heart.
After taking two mouthfuls of soup, Joey looked at her and asked,
“Did Mommy tell you what time she would come home, Lila?”
“I’m afraid not the exact time,” Lila said, putting down her utensils.
“Your mother just said she might come back late tonight.
Why? Do you miss her?”
“No.
I’m just asking,” Joey said, blinking his eyes innocently.
After dinner, Joey put on his coat and asked if he could go out in the yard to play.
Lila was still busy tidying up the table, so she told him not to run around and stay only in the yard.
Joey promised and nodded, and then Lila let him go out.
Not long after he had gone out to the yard, Joey felt his wristwatch vibrate.
He clicked on the small screen twice and the word “delivered” popped up.
Looking at it, he was lost in thought for a moment.
He had returned the three hundred million he had taken from his father’s account.
Now that it was done, he really no longer had anything to do with his father.
Joey knew his mother was visiting Roger’s family, which meant Roger would soon become part of their family too.
“Aw!” A sudden cry of pain from outside reached Joey’s ears.
He looked in the direction of the voice in surprise.
“Who is that?”
“Aw! It hurts!” Under the faint light from the street post nearby, an old man in a dark blue leather jacket sat on the ground with his walking stick lying aside as he grabbed his waist with his hands and cried out a second time.
The old man complained.
He caught a glimpse of Joey approaching out of the corner of his eye.
He signaled to him with a gesture and said,
“Boy, come here and assist me.”
Joey paused and turned to face the elderly guy in the low Light.
