Captivation: Want Nothing But You -
Chapter 1437
As if compelled to do so, Hector pushed the cake toward Joey.
“Go on.
Have a bite.”
Joey frowned at him as if Hector was a specimen not capable of distinguishing what he came there for.
“I’m not here for the cake.”
“I know that, but you have to eat something before you start practicing, right? It’s almost time for dinner.”
Joey swept a swift glimpse at his watch.
He didn’t answer Hector’s question.
“We only have fifteen minutes.”
“Why are you so impetuous? Did you get it from your mother? I don’t remember your father being like that,” Hector complained.
“I knew him to be patient and tough at the same time.”
Joey pressed his thin lips into a straight line, his jaw slightly tightened.
He didn’t like what Hector just told him, but he kept his thoughts to himself.
On the other hand, Rachel copied the document and saved it in a folder.
She cut off the call with Quintin and looked at the time in the lower right corner of the computer screen.
Half an hour had passed since Lila went shopping.
She stretched her arms, walked out of the room, and headed straight to Joey’s bedroom.
After a while, she reached his room, halted before the door, and knocked on it.
No one answered, so she thought the little guy was still sleeping.
Not wanting to disturb him, she held the doorknob and was about to push the door open.
“Mommy.” Joey’s childish voice came from inside.
He sounded like he had just been woken up from a long sleep.
“Joey, did I wake you? It’s time for dinner.
Lila will be back soon.”
Joey replied, “Mommy, can you give me a minute? I think I’ll be needing a shower.”
Rachel didn’t think too much; her mind was already packed with the contents of the document.
She was too preoccupied that she didn’t notice that something was odd with Joey’s voice.
She loosened her grip on the doorknob and said, “Okay.
I’ll wait for you downstairs.”
In the shooting club.
Like Victor, Joey stared at people with an intense, oppressive gaze.
Being regarded as such caused Hector to shift on his feet.
However, his uneasiness did not last long, and he regained his composure immediately.
Having served as a policeman for decades, he had been through scarier things than being stared at by a child.
Clearing his throat, he said, “Speaking of your mother, I’ve heard a lot of things about her, but I haven’t had the chance to meet her.
When your mother and father got married, I was dealing with an important case and couldn’t attend the ceremony.
How is she, by the way?”
