Joey looked away, pursing his lips.

“Mommy still needs meds for her treatment.

In all honesty, I have no idea if she has recovered or not.”

Severe postpartum depression wasn’t some kind of illness where you could give the patient a clear prognosis of when it would be cured.

It could be remedied within half a year, or the patient would have to suffer from it all their lives.

A little tired, Joey sat on a wooden chair and said, “Uncle Quintin told me that Mommy has fallen ill all because of Aunt Abby.

But the problem is she’s dead.

No one can help Mommy disentangle herself from the past anymore.”

Victor didn’t utter a word, but the dark glimmer in his eyes said it all.

“But I’m not losing hope that Mommy will be fine! Just look at her now.

She looks just Like she usually does minus the depression, right?

I know that Mommy is fighting, and so am I.

I have to be brave for her.” Joey raised his head, blinkingly at him.

“Right, Daddy?”

Victor conferred an intent look at his son.

Various thoughts flooded his mind, overwhelming his being.

In the end, he could only nod to answer the child’s question and went on to touch Joey’s head.

Recovery hadn’t fully made its way toward Victor; he was only putting on a facade that he had gotten better.

Victor experienced high fever after spending a while in the yard with

Joey.

Fortunately, Carson immediately called a doctor to tend to him.

“Don’t worry, kid.

Your father will be fine,” Carson said as he left

Victor’s room.

The poor boy was on his feet, his fists clenched tightly, and was boring his gaze at the door.

Carson had only drawn a quick glance from Joey.

It seemed the Little boy desired to enter the room to check on how Victor was doing.

His father was completely fine when they took a stroll in the yard.

At least that was what he thought.

On their way back, Victor suddenly collapsed.

The first thing he did was come to his father’s aid and feel his forehead.

Victor’s temperature was over the roof.

Had it not transpired, Joey would have continued being oblivious to how unwell Victor had been all the while he was with him.

He tried his best to run fast with his measly legs back to the house to call for help, tears blurring his sight.

The scene where Victor held him and jumped off the building kept flashing through his mind.

Even when Victor was already carried back inside his room and the doctor arrived, Joey’s petite body couldn’t stop trembling from the shock.

Carson pulled the kid aside and said, “I’m sorry, but you can’t go in now.”

“I want to go in and see for myself if he’s doing fine,” Joey demanded.

His lips firmly pursed into a thin line.
