The two of them were throwing glances at each other once in a while, but no one seemed to want to break the ice.

“What is it that you want to talk about?” Joey asked impatiently, the silence finally irking him.

“Well… We can talk about..

It was just an excuse for Quintin to stop the boy from going out.

He didn’t want to converse with Joey, let alone think about what to talk with him about.

Suddenly, something flashed through his mind, and he asked, “How is your arm?

Didn’t you hurt it before? Does it feel better now?”

Quintin stood up and took a step, wanting to take a closer look at how his arm was doing.

“I’m fine now.” Joey raised his head to look at Quintin, forcing him to step back.

He wasn’t exactly subtle in trying to keep himself away from Quintin.

“That’s good to know.” Quintin felt the tension rising in the air.

“Is there anything else you want to ask me?” Joey asked.

The corner of Quintin’s mouth twitched, and his mind began to race.

He had to say something if he wanted the kid to spend time with him a little longer.

Suddenly, Joey’s watch buzzed, notifying him that someone was calling.

As soon as Joey glanced at the caller ID, he sprang from the sofa and sprinted toward the door.

Before Quintin could stop him, the little guy already opened the door and walked out.

Quintin hurried to keep up with him, but when he walked out of the room, Joey had already gone back to his bedroom.

Quintin leaned against the door, feeling odd.

Immediately after he heard the door close, Joey took out his iPad and answered the voice call.

“Little guy…” Carson’s voice sounded hoarse and tired.

Joey’s heart sank.

The tone of Carson’s voice spawned an unsettling feeling in his gut.

He tightened his grip on the iPad.

“How’s my daddy? Is he awake?”

At this moment, Carson was leaning against the balcony’s baluster of the in-patient department of the hospital.

He was holding his phone in one hand while the other one held a cigarette.

The cigarette was half burnt, but from the moment it was lit to now, he didn’t take a drag.

He just let it burn.

He closed his eyes to calm himself down.

“Well, he’s fine.

He’s awake.”

Joey was relieved.

He didn’t realize he was holding his breath until he exhaled a heavy one.

“Then I’LL be there later—”

“Joey,” Carson interrupted him.

Joey was stunned.
