Hearing nothing, Quintin opened his eyes and found Joey putting the laptop on the table.

The boy looked sulky as he muttered, “Forget it.”

“No,” Joey said, seemingly frustrated.

Quintin thought Joey would make a fuss, but the boy suddenly calmed down.

Not expecting such a reaction, Quintin asked tentatively, “Is something wrong, Joey?”

Joey rolled his eyes at him.

After a moment, he looked at Quintin and said, “I know Mommy asked you to bring me back here because she was afraid I’d get kidnapped again.”

“Well, it’s good that you understand,” Quint said, relieved.

“I promise I won’t go back to Apliaria, but you have to answer one question from me.”

“Okay.

Go ahead.”

“Is my father alright? Mommy sent me back here in a hurry.

It was only because she was concerned of my safety, wasn’t it? Apliaria is peaceful now, and everything is back to normal, right?”

“That’s not one but three questions.” Quintin didn’t know how to answer.

He touched his nose uneasily.

Joey didn’t respond and just looked at him sternly.

Quintin had no choice but to give an answer.

Sighing, he looked Joey in the eyes and finally said, “Yes.”

Joey kept his eyes on him as if searching for any hint of dishonesty in his answer.

The truth was Quintin lied.

He would usually get nervous at times like this, but he tried to keep his expression serious.

Just when he thought the boy didn’t believe him, he saw him smile.

“Alright.

I believe you.”

Quintin sighed with relief.

He thought Joey had seen through him.
