CEO Proposed to His Ex-wife 99 Times
Chapter 272 Little Surprises Everywhere

Mrs. Grant was scared at the sight of the police and ducked behind the driver's seat.

Getting tired of the sight of her, Mr. Grant turned his head away.

Marshall didn't look back when he drove by the police car, but he could see from the rearview mirrors the car pulling over in front of Katherine's house and two policemen exiting the car and heading into the yard.

Marshall breathed out and grew even more fretful inside, while Mrs. Grant let out a sigh of relief as she said, "Thank god we made it out."

"Where should I drop you off, mom?" asked Marshall as he drove.

And Mrs. Grant was stumped. Where should she be dropped off? She actually wanted to go back to the Grants residence, but it was she who had voluntarily packed up and left with quite some pride in the first place, and she didn't want to embarrass herself in front of her husband and son by asking to return now.

Out of the corner of her eye, Mrs. Grant took a quick peek at her husband, who was completely reaction-less, as if he hadn't heard the question at all. That meant that Mr. Grant didn't want her back to the Grant residence.

Mrs. Grant started getting angry as well. Mr. Grant had never in all these years treated her so badly as he did now - and because of a complete outsider, too!

"Take me to your grandparents. I ain't going back to the Grant residence. No way!" she said crossly.

Not trying to change her mind, Marshall drove in the direction of his maternal grandparents' place straight away.

Nobody spoke on the way until they arrived.

Mrs. Grant was slow to get out of the car, as she took a rather good while to open the car door.

Knowing what she was up to, Mr. Grant was impatient. "Get a move on, will you? We still need to go to the office after this, where a lot of business awaits."

Vexed, Mrs. Grant pushed the door open, got out from the car and into the house without bidding farewell to either Marshall or Khalid.

Marshall drove away as he sighed.

When they arrived at the office, the Hendersons were already there waiting for them - including Clara, who looked tired and dispirited even under a layer of meticulously applied makeup.

The Hendersons were waiting in the conference room, so there Marshall and Mr. Grant went. Upon seeing Marshall, Clara rose instantly.

"Clara," spoke old Mr. Henderson.

Realizing what she'd done, Clara looked embarrassed as she slowly sat down.

Marshall entered the room and got seated without even a glance at her.

At the other side of the city, the policemen had left Katherine's place after a few questions. Since she wasn't the one to call the police, Katherine simply told the two police officers that she knew little about what happened, and they left without investigating any further.

After they were gone, Katherine sat on the sofa for quite some time, before she decided to delete Marshall's fingerprint from her phone. Regardless of what Mrs. Grant had to say about the matter, she herself didn't want anything to do with the Grant family from that point on.

Katherine cleaned up the living room where Mrs. Grant had made a mess, then went upstairs and got onto bed.

She fetched her phone to read the news.

In all honesty, she had seriously considered defending Marshall, as she was also hoping to turn over a new leaf and begin her own life. Were the affairs with the Grants to drag on, she'd be negatively affected too.

But she simply could not have Frances Mason Grant order her around as if she were the Queen. Who the hell did Mrs. Grant think she was? Ugh!

After the confrontation with Mrs. Grant, Katherine had half a mind to beat up Marshall, too. Katherine exhaled. She did like beating up Mrs. Grant, though. A truly cathartic experience.

Katherine skimmed through two reports on the affairs, which focused mainly on the same stuff as before. But this time, the media outlets somehow uncovered the fact that Marshall and Clara had been engaged at some point.

Katherine didn't actually know much about the whole story between Marshall and Clara, apart from the fact that the two families had intended for them to marry, and that Katherine's existence had broken off that arrangement.

According to the news articles, it was Mrs. Grant who had induced the engagement between the two. Mrs. Grant reportedly liked Clara a lot as soon as she met her, so she suggested it to the Grants after she went home. Marshall had reached the age to wed by then, and he had established himself as fairly accomplished career-wise in his family business, so all he seemed to need for a perfect life was a happy family.

The Grants, after evaluations, regarded the Hendersons as a good match for marriage. The Hendersons, in return, was equally happy with Marshall as a potential son-in-law.

Thus, a marriage was quickly arranged after the Grants made the proposal, and the engagement had started off rather smoothly. Marshall had met Clara before and, as the article went, was quite content with her, too. But in the end, for some inexplicable reason, Marshall abruptly decided to marry someone else - someone inferior to Clara in every aspect.

Katherine was nodding along with the article when she encountered that sentence. "Inferior to Clara in every aspect?" She got the sudden urge to slap the writer.

Katherine put down her phone. It was just not worth it to get pissed off at the news. Rolling around under the blanket, she closed her eyes and went to sleep. Because it wasn't like she had anything else to do. On Marshall's end, employees were quite confused with the turn of the event. Ms. Katherine Jordan Grant had come by the offices not long ago and had acted all lovey-dovey with Marshall, and then all of a sudden, they filed for divorce. Then that Dolly woman from WF Group made a reappearance this morning, claiming that the story she'd told earlier about her causing a rift between Mr. and Mrs. Grant had been completely true.

Nobody had believed her then, but now with Marshall at the center of media scrutiny, and with ill-intentioned netizens helping to push the narrative, people began to cite Dolly's allegations as a testament to Marshall's cheating inclinations.

No employee had dared remark on this affair publicly, but private chatters never stopped. Since Clara was here today, they all looked at her sideways.

If they had to choose between Clara Henderson and Katherine Jordan, the majority of them would side with the latter woman. Firstly, the smiley Katherine appeared much more easygoing than Clara who, with her haughty airs, always gave a feeling of cold aloofness. And secondly, Clara didn't have a legitimate claim to Marshall, after all. To most people, she was the "other woman" in this whole farce, and "other women" were, naturally, never a welcome existence.

Lucas Grant, having read through all his documents in the office, rose and headed for the break room, where he stopped before getting in.

Inside the break room were three female employees, sipping water and chatting by the window. Their voices were low, but Lucas heard them anyway.

"I still like Ms. Katherine better," said one of them.

"Me too," remarked another one, nodding, "with that smiling face of hers, Katherine looks like the kind of woman that can help with her husband's career."

The third woman laughed, commenting, "That sure is some long-term thinking from you, sis. You know what I think? I think that Ms. Katherine has great potential for bearing healthy, happy kids, despite her lean and tiny figure."

They all laughed at that, as the third woman added, "All jokes aside, Ms. Katherine is a nice person indeed. I don't know her very well, but she looks a lot more likeable than Clara Henderson."

Lucas headed back to his office after a pause, cup still in hand.

Katherine and Marshall had divorced. Life really was full of surprises.

Leaning into his chair, Lucas saw a group of people passing by, among whom were Mr. Khalid Grant, Marshall, and the Henderson gang. Clara was walking alongside and conversing with Marshall, who intuitively looked into the open door when he passed by Lucas' office.

Smirking, Lucas mouthed some words at him.
