CEO Proposed to His Ex-wife 99 Times
Chapter 280 Something’s Wrong with Him

Marshall had never done this before, and he wasn't entirely sure what was going through his mind. He just felt jittery and a bit restless. He kept wanting to do something, but he didn't know what it was that he should do.

Martin Newman had finished lunch, and Marshall leave with him. They got into a car waiting downstairs, and from the rear-view mirror, Marshall could see Hector and his gang walking out of the restaurant. He would be going to Katherine's place after he was done here. Why would he go visit Katherine when he was reeking of wine and cigarettes?

Marshall's expressions darkened.

The car slowly pulled over at a hotel. Not comprehending what was happening, Newman turned to look at Marshall, who told him through a smirk, "We've got a room for you. You don't even have to register with your real ID."

Assured, Newman went in with Marshall and got into the elevator.

Peter was waiting for them outside their room. As Marshall and Newman approached, Peter grinned. "Mr. Newman, long time no see."

Newman smiled back as a greeting.

The room was opened from the inside after Peter knocked, and a pretty young girl stood before their eyes. Newman perked up instantly.

Marshall walked into the room after Newman. There was another woman by the window. Seeing him, she walked over and looped one arm through his. "What took you so long?"

Marshall smiled at her. "We just finished lunch, and also ran into a traffic jam on the way over. It could have taken much longer."

Patting gently on his chest, the woman said, "Well, you've kept me waiting for long enough."

Newman was watching them with a tacit smirk. He was also happy with the fact that the girl in his arms looked much younger than the one Marshall was with.

Stroking the girl's cheeks, he asked, "18 yet?"

Marshall laughed. "Mr. Newman, we always operate by the book."

Chortling, Newman ogled at the girl. "Sorry, my bad."

Peter was waiting outside the room by the door, one of his legs curled up against the wall.

Out came Marshall after a short while, who had taken off his jacket and undone two buttons on his shirt and nothing else.

Checking on Marshall, Peter asked, "You okay?" And he got silent when Marshall glared at him.

Marshall began to head out. "You don't have to wait long. As soon as they show up, you can get out of here."

"Got it," answered Peter.

Marshall walked out of the hotel and got into the car.

"Where shall we go now, sir?" asked the chauffeur.

And that Marshall wasn't sure. He didn't want to, and honestly couldn't, go anywhere.

He took a long, hesitant pause before slowly giving an address.

Katherine was getting tired of Kyle, who insisted on being in her home with her, and she had asked repeatedly when he was going to leave. "What," retorted Kyle, looking innocent, "you're tired of me and want to chuck me out?"

Annoyed, Katherine decided to ignore him completely, so she went upstairs, leaving Kyle alone on the first-floor sofa, happily watching TV.

Katherine could hear his laughter from upstairs. This damn guy and his brazen laughs. What would the neighbors think, when they could see Kyle visiting her, a single woman, every day? After a while, Katherine stood by the window to stare outside, her mind busy recalling the recording Kyle had played for her.

As it turned out, Clara had paid people to speak in favor of her online.

What a silly woman Clara was. She really shouldn't have gone with the whole she-belonged-with-Marshall tactic, since that line of argument would confirm Clara's reputation as "the other woman." It would have been better if she'd asked paid posters to claim that she had nothing to do with Marshall. If she could come out of this scandal totally clean, she'd have more options in the future. The status as "the other woman" should have been carefully shunned from the very start, since a reputation like this would be a stain that could never be completely removed.

Katherine kind of wanted to tell Marshall about it, but she hesitated. What would even come of it if she did? Would she get Marshall to hate on Clara?

Katherine pondered over it for quite some time when she spotted Marshall's car, which, instead of driving towards her house, pulled over somewhere not far away.

And that was it. Nobody came out of the car; they only turned off the engine.

Katherine stared at the car for a good while before she descended the stairs.

Kyle was lying on the sofa with one leg on the armrest as he laughed hard at the TV. When Katherine passed by, he sat up immediately. "Where are you going? You heading out? Let me come along! I'll help you carry things if you're going shopping..."

"Shut the hell up, will you?" said Katherine as she walked out of the living room without so much as turning her head.

She walked towards Marshall's car.

Knowing who she was, the chauffeur got out of the car before considerately rolling down the window by which Marshall was sitting. Marshall was leaning into the seat, with his eyes closed and his cheeks flushed. In short, he was inebriated.

That got Katherine surprised. For starters, Marshall had always been able to hold his liquor, so she wondered how much he'd had to drink for him to look like this. Secondly, why should he be getting drunk at this time of the day? Didn't he have work in the afternoon? Normally, fun and alcohol were supposed to be reserved for dinners.

Marshall might have fallen asleep, since he didn't react at all.

The chauffeur inched closer and spoke with a lowered voice. "Sir had a business lunch, after which he told me to drive here. He also instructed me not to get too close, and to park the car from a distance." Katherine laughed. "The wine has gone to his head – he's had too much. You should drive him back so that he can get some quality sleep.”

The chauffeur was hesitant. "I dare not defy Sir's direct orders."

Marshall was not a man of many words, and he wasn't the friendliest person, either. So normally everyone around him was more or less scared of him, and nobody could change his decision once he had made up his mind.

Staring at Marshall for a while, Katherine sighed. "Fine, do whatever you want. You're not strictly on my turf anyway."

She left after she finished speaking.

Marshall didn't open her eyes until she had walked away. His eyes were still flushed from the alcohol, but he looked sober enough.

The chauffeur got back into the car after a while, but instead of turning around to check on Marshall, he simply took out his phone to catch up on the latest gossips.

Marshall had stared at the back of the seat in front of him initially, before slowly turning his gaze in the direction of Katherine's house.

The front door was open, but he couldn't make out the person inside from the distance. In Katherine's front yard parked a car, which, blocked by a fence, was also difficult to discern.

It was probably Hector. Thought Marshall with a sigh.
