CEO's Tears Over Pregnancy Test Discovery -
Chapter 1531
The next second, there was only silence on the phone.
Ben sent the phone number to his assistant. "Investigate thoroughly."
A thought suddenly struck him. He couldn't let Jamie continue to roam freely outside.

Four days later, Ben's mother came to visit. "You refuse to take over the family business, and now you're going against me by keeping Jamie around again?"
Ben didn't respond, but her anger only grew.
"Ben, you've seen for yourself what kind of person Jamie is. Why are you still so obsessed with her? The fiancée I arranged for you is far better than the one you've chosen!" The Larson family was also one of the prominent families in Birkham.
While the Lucas and Larson families couldn't rival the York family, the Lucas family still held its position as the second most influential family in the city.
On top of that, they were relatives of the Scott Lucas.
Even Scott, who had initially resisted marriage, eventually followed his parents' wishes and entered into a family-arranged union.
"Look at your cousin, Scott," she said indignantly. "At first, he refused to get married, but in the end, he followed his family's wishes and entered into a beneficial marriage alliance."
Her frustration was palpable. "Ben, if you won't listen to me, why don't I just adopt Scott as my son? At least he understands the value of family alliances!"
It was a familiar tactic. When children disappointed their parents, they would hear comparisons to others. Ben's mother had no real intention of replacing him with Scott, but she wanted to drive home the point that Ben needed to learn from Scott and sever ties with Jamie for the sake of his future.
"Why are you always comparing me to others?" Ben said, his back to her. "Scott made his choices, and I'll make mine. As for Jamie, I know what I'm doing."
Her words grated on him, every comparison a stone in his chest.
"If you weren't so disappointing, I wouldn't have to compare you to others!" she snapped. "Do you think I enjoy this? If you'd listen to me, do you think I'd bother bringing up Scott?

"No matter how impressive someone else's child is, they can't hold a candle to my own," she added bitterly.
Ben didn't want to hear any more of it. "You should leave. I have my own plans when it comes to Jamie."
That response nearly sent his mother into a rage.
"Your own plans? Your so-called plans include keeping Jamie locked up in this villa and forcing a child on her?" she fumed, her voice laced with fury.
"Don't forget, Jamie already has a child. And Ben, you're a lawyer! What you're doing is illegal. Are you trying
to get your law license revoked or
better yet, end up in prison?"
As she spoke, an idea took shape in her mind. It wasn't the first time she had considered this route. The last time, she had been sidetracked when Ben was framed by someone

else. But now, she felt it might be
time to act on it.

"You're not going to respond, are you? Fine. Let's see how long you can hold on to that precious law license of yours!"
Her anger twisted her expression into something almost unrecognizable, but Ben remained unmoved.
After she finally stormed out, he returned to the bedroom.
The moment he stepped inside, Jamie rushed toward him. "Ben, have you found Charlie yet?"
Since being confined to the house, she cared about nothing else but her child. Days had passed without any news of Charlie or contact with Winnie. Her worry consumed her. Ben hadn't expected Jamie to be so desperate, so fixated on this child. His hand shot out, gripping her throat.
"Whose bastard is he? Why is it always about that kid with you?"
Jamie's eyes filled with pain. She wanted so badly to tell him the truth that Charlie was his child.
