Chapter 44

No One’s POV

As Zayden had said, he called Grace after every two hours and stole at least five minutes of her precious time for himself. She wanted to complain about him, eating the cake which she had made for her mother but then it wouldn’t look nice.

She thought of preparing another cake for her mother but she neither had the ingredients at her parent’s house nor the home. She had everything at her new house. And her mother denied the idea of wasting cake by buying from the store. So, in the end, the cake-cutting program was canceled. The final plan was a family dinner.

Time flew quickly. She wanted to spend more time with her family. But not every wish comes true. She had informed Zayden about the change in the plan and asked him to come directly at the time of the dinner if possible.

Exactly at 7:30 PM, Zayden knocked on the door. Grace opened it herself and immediately she found herself in someone’s arms. Without even looking, she knew who he could be!

“I missed you.” he said.

“Umm..Zayden.”, She whispered, reminding him that they were in front of her family. He broke the hug and looked backward, following Zayden’s eyes even Grace looked back and found Eric standing there with a big box in his hand.

He nodded and Eric came forward to hand over that box to Grace.

“What is it?”, She asked, receiving the box from Eric.

“Why don’t you see by yourself?”, Zayden said and walked inside her parent’s home. “By the way, sweetheart! We can’t stand here till dinner. I have some important work so we will have to leave after 15 minutes.”

“Okay, I will inform that to mom.”, She answered with a heavy heart but didn’t protest because he had listened to her request in the morning even though that was something which was not his nature. Grace took the box in the living room and kept it on the table. She then opened it curiously, wondering what’s inside the box? She gasped after looking at THAT thing while Blake cheered.

“Mom looks so beautiful.”, Blake said happily. “And this cake looks like heaven.”, He added and reached his hand to eat it. That’s when Grace slapped at his hand and glared at him.

“This is for mom, Blake and instead of standing here, go and serve drinks to him.”, She said, reminding him about manners.

Zayden was trying to keep calm and compose in a house full of five vampires. He took a sip of water from the glass that Blake gave him and signaled him to sit near him. It was much better than sitting with a vampire, of course!

“How are you?”

“Good.”

“Study hard, okay!”, He said in a serious tone on which Blake nodded instantly. Zayden didn’t know what to talk about with him rather than this. Because as Grace had mentioned he didn’t have the habit of speaking unnecessarily.

By that time, Grace’s mother came out of the kitchen. “Zayden, Grace told me that you both have to leave. Can’t you stay one night here, son?”, She asked on which Grace gasped at her mother. She didn’t offer to let her stay but was ready to let Zayden stay.

“I would love to, Mom. But it is not possible today, Mummy. Grace might have told you that I have some important work. I will definitely stay the next time. I promise.”, He said. “But as for today, I will stay till the cake cutting.”, He said, making Grace’s mother smile.

“I have packed some pieces of cake and some food. You both can eat it at your home. I hope you don’t mind.”, Her mother said.

“Why did you pack the cake, Mom? It is your favorite flavor.”, He asked.

“I thought it is also your favorite flavor, that’s why you almost eat half of the cake.”, Her mother reminded Zayden.

“Oh, nothing like that, Mom. I ate that cake just because Grace had made it.”, Zayden said in front of everyone, making Grace’s cheeks go red.

‘Can’t he stop saying these cheesy lines in front of my parents?’, She thought.

“And you didn’t have to make an effort to pack dinners for us as well. Grace cooks very well.”, he said.

“But it is nothing compared to what you did for us. It was the least I could do.”, The moment her mother said this line, Grace became curious.

“What did he do?”, She asked her mother, glancing at Zayden.

“Nothing. We should leave now. It’s getting late.”, he tried to change the topic.

“No, wait. Mom, tell me, what did he do?”, She asked again.

“He didn’t tell you?”, Her mother exclaimed.

“No. But I want you to tell me now.”, She begged.

“He…”, Her mother looked at Zayden and saw him shaking his head negatively. She wondered why he wasn’t letting her tell the truth to Grace! But she wanted to tell the truth to her daughter. She should know what he did for them. “He paid all the pending dues of Blake’s education and also arranged a meeting with a big doctor of the city for your father’s treatment. We will be going there to pay him a visit after two days.”

“But…but why?”, Grace asked lowly to him.

“Isn’t it obvious that I love you and it is my responsibility to remove all the tension of your life.”, Zayden confessed bluntly in front of everyone, again.
