Chapter 128

AMERY

I woke up the next morning with a wholesome feeling in my heart. Today was the lightest I had felt so far In two days. The new found feeling came with a sudden calmness and something kept on telling me that i could do anything i wanted now. Quincy had forgiven me. A new step and progress to mending our broken relationship.

When we made up yesterday, i realized that a part of me that I thought was dead and buried had been awoken. It felt strange, yet surreal. The fact that I connected with him on such level left me in awe and i was extremely grateful that he had taken that bold step to approach me first.

I had been looking for ways to reconcile with him because I thought that he was still mad at me but he wasn't. Instead, he had done it himself and now, all i needed to do was get through to Asher and everything between us would be settled. "Amery are you up?" My mom hollered and i quickly wrapped the towel around my chest and sprinted into the bathroom. "You're late. The bus would be leaving soon and didn't you say that you had an orientation at school before you leave?"

"I did.... and I'm almost done. Just five more minutes, I promise." I called after her as I proceeded to wash myself. I had decided to go to the school's camping trip. At first I didn't want to attend but Quincy had practically forced me to go and I'm going to do just that. I know that it's going to be less fun considering the fact that he wouldn't be there but Levi had promised to go with me so at least I'll have him there.

I finished having my bath and quickly scrambled through my closet for what to wear. Mum had helped me pack my luggage last night before I went to bed and now all I needed to do was simply pick up and leave. I settled for a floral dress, pumps and beret to compliment the look. I wanted to go for a French look and I was glad that I was pulling it off without trying so hard.

"Are you ready now?" She called again and after applying gloss to my lips, I threw it into my purse and dragged my luggage out of my room and down the stairs.

"You look...." Mom took a quick pause and for a moment there I thought that something was wrong with my dressing. "You look lovely my dear." She added and I let out a breath I didn't know I was holding.

"I can't believe that I almost fell for that. You teasing prankster." I muttered to myself and she lets out a cackled laugh.

"Come on. Your dad and I will drop you off at school." She announced and I froze. Why was I suddenly getting this new piece of information now? Why didn't anyone tell me about this recent development. "No." She shook her head at me. "Don't make that face. For goodness sake Amery, he's your dad. You'd have to forgive him sooner or later."

"I think later is a much viable option." I mused, upset about the fact that we would be seated in the same vehicle till I got to school.

"I don't care." She primped. "He's your father and you can't keep on ignoring him. Pretend to be dead if you have to but he's driving us and that's not going to change. For how long do you intend to keep this going?

I wanted to tell her that I wanted to keep it going for as long as it was supposed to but then I didn't want to sound disrespectful and I didn't want to ruin my mood for today's trip so I simply let it go and gave in to her demands. And besides, it's not like I was the one who turned my back on him when he needed me the most. He did so by himself and he did it singlehandedly so he should be able to bear the consequences of his actions.

Without saying anything, I got into the car after stuffing my luggage in the trunk of the car. Dad started the ignition and soon enough, we were off to school. We arrived just In time for briefing and orientation and after kissing them goodbye, I picked up my things to join the others at the entrance.

I spotted Levi's car pulling up a few minutes later and to my greatest surprise, Asher had come with him. I had no idea that he decided to join us for the school trip. I thought that he would cancel or decide not to show up at all.

Levi walked up to me and pulled me in for a hug. "You look different and in a good way. What's so different about you today?" He sized me up. "Oh I see, your boobs got two inches bigger than before."

I slapped his hand playfully. "You're so funny." I mocked. I saw Asher from behind him and just as I am about to wave at him, he walked right past us to meet up with Natasha. I still don't want to believe that they have a thing going on with each other. She was not his girlfriend as far as I'm concerned so I wouldn't give it that much of a thought even though my insides are completely burning with jealousy right now.

"Alright everyone." One of the teachers called our attention and everywhere went silent in an instant. "We're officially ready to commence our school trip and the destination to where we would be camping has been made unknown which means that it has been kept as a surprise until we get there to see for ourselves. This trip would involve a lot of activities, games, fun and would be a great learning curve for our last class. Everyone is expected to participate because your performance is to be graded and recorded which might be used as a test for your final exams."

There was a loud uproar of unending groans at that statement.

"It's a school's trip so of course we're going to learn. What do you think was going to happen? Eating, sleeping and wilding all day? Not a chance!" He admonished them.

"On that note." He continued when the noise had died down a bit. "Each of you would be separated into four groups. One of which would be boarding a bus which would be chaperoned by one of our esteemed teachers so you are to obey and follow all their instructions to the very last." He stated and I glanced at Asher who had his arms wrapped around the waist of Natasha. Our eyes met briefly but he glared them away.

I sucked in a deep breath. My determination unwavering. No matter what happens, I would make sure to set things right between us before we get back from the school trip. I would not let someone like Natasha come between us.

"With that being said..." The teacher continued and I darted my eyes towards his direction. "Say your goodbyes and let's hit the road. Happy school trip everyone." He added and everyone clapped their hands furiously.

"Come on." Levi dragged me to a line. "Let's go together In one group. That way, we can sit together." He suggested and I had no choice but to agree. I wanted to invite Asher to join us but Levi had stopped, thereby ruining my plans. Not to worry. We still had one full week to ourselves which is plenty of time to set things right.

I waited in line with Levi and Asher joined us a while later. Levi and I were seatmates and I couldn't be more happier to be paired with him. I would rather go with a familiar face than with someone I don't know. Speaking of which, I had forgotten that I wouldn't be able to seat with someone else because Levi had strictly imposed on the other students to stay away from me so I know that I was stuck with him until the end of the school year. Not that I'm complaining though. This past few months has been nothing but fun. "Are you strapped in?" He asked when we located our seat and settled in. He had helped me load my luggage at the top of the bus alongside his and had closed and snapped it shut before taking his seat right next to me.

"I have no idea how these seat belt works." I grumbled as I struggled furiously In order to get them to work. They were proving stubborn and had refused to budge so that I could strap in.

"Hold on." Levi placed his hands on mine and I remained still. It's always a problem to avoid Levi's charm especially when he was being like this. He managed to pull out the belt to strap me in. "Thank you Levi." I whispered gratefully.

"What are boyfriends for? Am I right?" He winked at me and I couldn't help but smile. I was so glad to see that these past few days, he was being a more positive and open to the world kind of person. I don't know what had changed but I liked it. Asher and Natasha were given an empty seat opposite ours In the bus. I tried so hard to dispose and ignore the fact that he was so close to me but I couldn't.

Levi held my chin with a finger and brought my face to meet his. "You're not allowed to look elsewhere when you're seated with me Amery so don't." He warned. I blinked furiously and my breath hitched.

"If you feel dizzy then you can rest on my shoulders." He said. "Let's enjoy the trip while we can okay?"

I nodded slowly.

After making sure that we were all strapped in and ready, the teacher gave permission to the driver and we started the journey for camp. I don't know why but something deep inside keeps telling me that it's going to be a very long school trip.
