AMERY

.

I found myself there again, in that same spot, that same position and the same place where I had been the last time. Was this a trance or a vision? Because I can barely understand what's happening right now. How and why do I always end up here even when I don't want to? What's the connection between me and this place?

I walked around the open space and I spotted the branch that I had sat on the last time when it approached me-the white silky wolf with blue eyes. I am about to go there when I heard a low growl followed by a gruff from behind me.

I stopped In my tracks. This cannot be possible. Is it here already? How can I be thinking and it just magically appears out of the blue? I turned to face the direction of where the sound was coming from and there it was, seated on its hunches. Its deep eyes stared at me as if trying to tell me something. But how could I possibly understand when I'm not a wolf? It might be a part of me but it still doesn't mean that I had accepted it yet.

"Thank you," I whispered in a low voice but it remained still, in that same position. "Thank you for offering me comfort the other day. I had been so lost until I found you and your touch helped me a lot." I rambled on as though it could hear me. Or maybe it can. Animals are said to understand a human's feelings scientifically, are they not?

The wolf tilted its head to the side, watching me closely and its shiny fur danced in the wind. It was beautiful to watch, like the painting that Quincy had drawn the other day. I don't know why but I found my feet moving towards the animal and it sat there as though it was waiting for me to come. Just as I am about to touch it, I felt something or rather someone shaking me aggressively.

"Amery, wake up." The voice boomed through my subconscious, repeating over and over again till I jolted awake. I opened my eyes to see Levi staring at me. So it was a dream after all.

"Are you alright?" He asked, his voice sounded terrified. "You kept on mumbling things in your sleep that it got me worried."

"I'm okay. I just..." I trailed off. "I just had a crazy dream that's all. Did I fall asleep for long?"

He hummed. "Yes. You were knocked out as soon as we started the journey but I'm glad that's over because we've just arrived." He announced and I looked around to see that we had indeed arrived at our destination. I looked outside the window to see the little houses and trees that we had driven past.

"Alright everyone, I officially welcome you to Kiyo Valley." He announced and everyone screamed in delight. "We would be meeting the caretaker of this amazing place and he would give us a quick tour and rules to follow before we'll be assigning you to your sleeping cabins. So be on your best behavior don't do anything that'll attract penalties because I do love giving them."

The bus came to an abrupt stop after his little speech and Levi helped me out with our bags while I fought to remove the seatbelt which I won, eventually. We all walked out of the bus in a single file as per instruction towards the entrance and stood there. The caretaker which would also be our official tour guide approached us for mandatory briefing.

He introduced himself as Mr. Anderson and showed us around the area, making sure that we were familiar with everyone and how everything works.

"Has your school ever taken a trip to this place before?" Levi asked, halfway through our walk to the entrance.

"No." I answered sharply. "I think this is a new place. Our seniors never mentioned anything about a Kiyo Valley that I should know about. Why?"

"Nothing." His brows furrowed together. "It just kind of feels strange and different than the mansion or other places that I've been to. The nature and aura around this place is a bit overwhelming. It reminds me of home." He said at last and I nodded in understanding when I got a grasp of what he was talking about.

"I'm glad you feel a lot at ease here." I smiled at him and he grinned at me but I shyed my eyes away from his gaze.

"That'll be all for the tour for today. The tour guide spoke up and we diverted our attention back to him. "I believe that you all are tired from the long journey so I would allow you people to get settled down and have some rest. We might continue the touring tomorrow or another day but until then, should in case you encounter any problems during your stay here then don't hesitate to inform me or any of my colleagues that work here. We would be more than happy to offer any form of assistance to make your trip and stay more fun. In other words, welcome to Kiyo Valley." He said and we all clapped before watching him leave.

"It's time to assign cabins." One of the teachers started. "All boys would be staying at the left wing and the girls would be given a room in the right wing so that would have privacy and not run into each other no matter what so when I call your names, you'll find your rooms with the help of the teachers. Remember, make sure to unpack quickly and get ready for the night because there would be a bonfire as a celebration to welcome us here."

The teacher assigned names and I was surprised to see that Levi and Asher were given rooms opposite each other. There's a whole lot of reasons why this was not a good idea but I chose not to delve into it.

I was assigned to my cabin with a girl whom I have seen before. I didn't even know that she was in my class until today. I can't blame myself though. I had completely distanced myself from making friends after what Natasha had done to me and I was always busy hanging out with the boys to make new friends too.

We got into our room and I was glad to see that it was neatly arranged and cozy. Everything about the room was giving. We had different beds but there was enough space to walk around without getting into each other's faces and I liked it. My roommate took to her own space and started unpacking her things without saying a word to me at least.

I quickly started unpacking my bags too so that I could find something suitable to wear for the bonfire tonight. I wasn't expecting them to do that tonight so it was completely random.

"Hey!" I waved at my new roommate and Cabin partner but she looked away after adjusting her glasses. Okay, maybe she was the nerdy introverted type. I get it.

"My name's Amery..."

"Yeah, I know that already." She interrupted and threw me a not so friendly glance. "I'm sure that everyone at this camp knows who you are at this point. I wish I got another room or a different partner to trade with. This is going to be nothing but a disaster." She continued unpacking and I was a bit stunned. I never expected her to be so outspoken. Her words somehow threw me off.

"I'm sorry but did I do something to you or offend you in any way?" I asked, confused as to why she was acting this way towards me.

"No you didn't but you're trouble and I don't like being with trouble. I prefer a quiet place with a partner who doesn't get tangled up in my business and so far, you fit all of those descriptions, I'm sorry." She chided me.

"You've been cancelled more than twice by the school and every student body." She said to me. "Trouble follows you everywhere. You're like a flame drawing in moths and if I have a chance at graduating with a good GPA and getting into my dream university then, I have to stay away from anything that can ruin it. I hope you understand?" She made to leave but I stopped her.

"I am nothing like those things." I said in my defense. "I'm a victim and the only reason why bad things happen to me because I keep meeting bad people so let's get to know at each other at least and then you'll see for yourself."

"Your boyfriend did make an announcement in school about no one getting close to you." She reminded me.

"Levi?" I waved her off. "He won't be a problem. I've had a stressful week and it won't be fun if I don't get to at least talk to my roommate plus, I don't have any friends here so it'll be difficult being by myself especially after lights out so what do you say? Can we start off again?" I said with outstretched hands. She glared at it for a while before looking at me.

"Samantha." She shook my hands. "But you can call me Sam as long as you don't do anything to ruin this trip, please."

I chuckled. "Of course roomie. I'm glad that we finally got to sort that part out."

She nodded. "Me too and I'll admit, it would be boring if we don't talk to each other considering the fact that we barely have friends here." She resumed working again. "I'm still a bit shocked though that you don't have friends. Who would've thought that being popular can also be a curse."

I laughed at her sense of humor, glad that we were finally getting along. The bonfire was announced again and we were given enough time to rest and prepare. I decided to take my bath while I waited.

"I call dibs on using the bathroom first." I blurted out.

She laughed. "You are so childish Amery Hunter." She added before I sprinted into the bathroom, hoping that this bonfire would actually end well and not go up in flames.
