AMERY

·

"...Good morning students." Someone addressed everyone through the public system that was fixed to talk to the students and I stirred awake with a groan. "Welcome to day two to another fun-tastic and life-changing camping experience here In Kiyo Valley. Our schedule today goes as follows."

".... Breakfast preparation begins as soon as everyone is perfectly rested enough and has taken their bath after their usual personal activities. The teachers as well as our tour guide have put together a breakfast feast for everyone this morning so whatever you do, make sure that you do not miss out on it. Secondly, there is a treasure hunt happening later today with cool prizes to be won which will later be announced before the beginning of the game so endeavor to be present as this activity would be added as a record to our gpa. Also, did I forget to mention that you have less than an hour to get ready? That will be all for now, enjoy your morning."

"This day just keeps on getting worse and worse," I muttered to myself and threw the blanket over my face. I haven't been able to sleep properly because each time I try to, that wolf kept on approaching me. It's almost like it is trying to tell me something but it never does. It just sits down on its haunches and stares at me in a weird manner that I can't even comprehend and to think that I keep on having this particular dream at the same spot ever since we arrived here is just so alarming considering what the tour guide had said yesterday night too. What is happening to me?

It keeps on playing in a loop and each time I try to stop it, I wake up to a stupid noise or someone calling me which interrupts the entire process only to start over and over again the minute I close my eyes to get some sleep. If this was a nightmare or a dream then what does it mean? And is there an interpretation to it because at this rate, I don't even know what's happening to me anymore.

I balled my hands into fists and slammed my bed hard in utter frustration as I screamed into my pillow. Who would've thought that this was exactly what insanity looks like? I'm on the very edge of losing my mind because why would I be dreaming about a wolf out of all things to dream about?

"Are you okay?" Sam asked and I groaned loudly before casting the covers aside to pull myself up.

"I am fine Sam. I just feel a little tired and frustrated that's all." I answered with a smile but the look on her face told me that she wasn't buying it.

"You just screamed into your pillow." She started. "What could have gotten you so riled up to the point that you were screaming so early in the morning? You had me worried."

"Like I told you Sam, it's nothing," I assured her with a smile. "I'll be fine. Now, why don't we get ready for the breakfast feast this morning? I heard that we had less than an hour to be prepared." I held her by the shoulders and pushed her towards the bathroom till I successfully managed to lock her up inside before settling down to figure out what I would wear for the breakfast celebration.

I decided on an outfit and waited for Sam to get finished and as soon as she did, I stepped in after her to have my bath. I finished taking my bath and settled for the clothes that I had picked out earlier before heading out with Sam to the place where the breakfast buffet would be held for all students.

"Stuff your faces, everyone. You'd need tons of energy for the activity that comes after this one." The teacher informed us and everyone started doing exactly as they were told, to stuff their faces. I approached the neatly decorated table to dish out my breakfast when I spotted Levi walking towards me. Sam who saw him took her food and left as quickly as her feet could carry her. I'd have to tell her one of these days that Levi doesn't bite. That is if she would believe me.

"Good morning." He greeted and I answered with a faux smile. "And why are there dark circles underneath your eyelids? I told you to have some rest, didn't I? So why did you go ahead to disobey me?"

"I didn't get enough sleep last night. I mean I tried to sleep last night but I just couldn't. I've been having weird dreams ever since I got here and for some reason, it has only seemed to get worse and I do not know what to do about it." I complained bitterly to Levi who didn't take me seriously one bit.

"Seriously Amery? Of all things, is that what you're going with?" He asked in disbelief. "The only reason why you think you're having these nightmares is because you keep on dwelling on things that Are not supposed to be an issue in the first place. Nothing is going on so try to drop it okay?"

"You were worried last night about what the tour guide said and now you're having nightmares?" He shook his head slowly.

"I'm being serious Levi, I wouldn't joke about this."

"I still think you were a bit startled by what he said and that's why. Hopefully, it'll wear out today so that you'd go back to your normal self." He gave a wry smile and started to dish out for himself.

Breakfast went smoothly and although Levi had a point, I still felt like there was something incredibly off with this place. We all finished our meal and after resting up, we were told to assemble in the open space of the cabin.

I spotted Asher but as usual, he didn't look happy to see me. It's like his anger and hatred for me grows with each passing day

"Today's game is something simple yet fun." One of the teachers began. "We will be playing a game of treasure hunt. Your teachers and I have hidden different clues in strategic places all around the cabin and outside the premise. You are to find all of them before noon. If anyone can get all complete clues of the treasure hunt before the end of the day then, they would be awarded one of the biggest cabins as their prize as well as a gift to invite three people of their choice as their guests for the night with food and a lot of other privileges. So are you game?" He asked and everyone chorused yes.

"Alright, let the games begin and good luck." He wished us after giving us our first clue before disappearing into his cabin leaving the other teachers to chaperone us. I don't know why I felt the sudden need to participate but somehow I was determined to. Asher has refused to talk to me ever since we got here but if I'm able to win this then I would compel him to be one of my guests and I know that he will not be able to refuse me then so no matter what happens, I needed to win.

Everyone took to their gear and started the hunt. We were all scattered individually looking for the next clue. Levi didn't participate and I didn't get to see a glimpse of Asher so I don't know if he would also participate or not. Well, they never cared about grades or anything so I wasn't surprised.

I took to the heels and headed for the gates just outside the premise and towards the hill situated outside. I was engrossed In what I was doing that I didn't see that Natasha had followed me all the way outside as well. "Trouble in paradise?" She mocked.

"If you're here to get on my nerves Natasha then I will suggest that you leave because I am not in the mood for this," I told her off as I continued to search but she wouldn't leave.

"You have seriously not been in the mood for anything ever since Asher announced to everyone that I am his girlfriend now." She teased, in a bid to rub it in my face. "Are you really that jealous to the point that you can't even stand us any longer? We had only started dating for a while so why can't you give us your blessings seeing that he chose me over you."

"Asher didn't and will never choose you." I challenged. "You might think that you have won because he keeps on parading you around camp as his girlfriend but we both know that it's nothing but a lie. Because the Asher I know would not be caught with someone like you as a girlfriend and do you want to know why? It's because it's you Natasha and no one else."

"He knows what a despicable human being you are and he also knows that you are my enemy so he will never dare to date you. For all I know, you could be the one throwing yourself at him judging by how clingy you always are around him." I rolled my eyes at her. "I've known you for a very long time Natasha. You were always desperate and besides, I know that because you were my friend or have you forgotten that you stole my ex-boyfriend?" I made to leave but she pulled me back roughly by my hair.

"You really have some nerves talking to me in that manner Amery." She spat and I roughly pushed her hands away from my body.

"Really?" I questioned. "You have always wanted everything that I have. Isn't that why you followed me out here? so that you could try to sabotage my hunt and take it for yourself? Grow up Natasha so that you can realize that the world does not revolve around you." I slammed her painfully with an eye roll as I watched the rapid rise and fall of her chest.

I turned to go for the second time but before I could take a single step, she grabbed me by my collar and pushed me down the hill. I tried to find a balance as I rolled down but it was impossible to do so and before I knew it, I slammed my head on a rock. I felt a huge throb in my head. Everywhere started spinning as I lay down there almost lifeless. The last sound I heard was someone desperately calling out to me before I passed out cold.
