AMERY

.

I woke up to Levi's body convulsing on top next to mine. He was drenched in sweat and his eyelids were snapped shut. Scared and perturbed, I held onto him like my life depended on it. "Levi?" I called out to him but he wouldn't wake up, instead, it only got worse.

"Wake up Levi. This isn't funny anymore and I don't like it. You're scaring me." I whispered to him in a stern voice but he still wouldn't budge. Left with no other option, I threw off the blankets from our bodies and plastered myself on him as cover. I didn't know what else to do but I was working on my very own instincts. I wrapped my hands around his neck as I whispered sweet nothingness to him.

"No!" He screamed and gripped my hands tightly. He was unconscious and shaking profusely. "I-I didn't..." He stuttered as the tears fell freely from his eyes. "I wanted to help-" He cried out.

Watching him in this state had me confused and quite disoriented. Levi having a nightmare was something that I did not anticipate happening. He had always come off as someone strong and someone whose shield was impenetrable but seeing him right now in this position had me feeling all sorts of emotions at once.

"Stop having nightmares and wake up to me Levi." I pleaded in a low voice while peppering kisses everywhere on his face and where my lips could touch. "I am here and I promise that we would find a solution together. I will not leave you alone but first, you'd have to wake up."

He groaned into my ears, his temperature slowly going down. He stopped shaking and gradually started to embrace the light. His breathing had gone from erratic to little tiny pants and that's when I realized that it was working. He was responding to my touch. I gently shook him and he snapped his eyes open almost immediately, breathing hard.

I felt a deep sense of relief when he woke up but the way he reacted afterwards was something that I did not expect. He had pushed me away. And as if it wasn't enough, he picked up his clothes, wore them and left the cabin after telling me to leave him alone. I had thought that we had both shared something between us and that he was finally learning to open up to me but it seemed like I was wrong. I had been mistaken. I had convinced myself that Levi had indeed changed and had slowly started to love him. Yes, I was falling for him and it's not even a secret anymore. I never thought that I would but it turns out that I did.

That night, I couldn't sleep. All my efforts to force myself to go to bed were futile. I kept on turning and tossing till morning and to make matters worse, Levi didn't come back. Who has s*x with a girl and leaves her to herself for a whole night? Doesn't he care about me at all? Doesn't he care about my feelings in the slightest? Am I really that insignificant that he can't even acknowledge me or try to understand me? Maybe I shouldn't have fallen for him the way that I did.

It's all my fault. I had high hopes and expectations for something that wasn't meant to be and now, it's truly gone.

I lay down still on the bed till the public announcer came on. Today was for recreational activities and we would be taking a hike up to see one of the mountains so I forced myself out of bed and threw on my clothes before making my way towards my initial cabin. So much for having dinner with both brothers.

"Hey, you!" Samantha adjusted her glasses with an almost high pitch squeal when she saw me walk into the cabin. I faked a smile.

"Why do you look down this morning?" She proceeded to ask. "You won a whole cabin to yourself for the night. I will give anything to have won that gift and you're not even smiling about it?"

"I'm sorry but I'm just dealing with some things right now Sam," I explained. "Is it okay if I use the bathroom? I need to wash up before the hike."

She nodded her head in response. "Of course. Go ahead. It's your cabin too."

"Thanks."

I picked up my towel and proceeded to have my bath. I stood under the shower and let the water cascade down my back slowly. My mind was still fixed on last night. I don't think I'm ever going to forget about it in a hurry. I finished washing up and joined Sam outside who was already getting ready.

"Did something happen last night?" She questioned, halfway through her get-up. I could see that she was genuinely worried about me but we weren't that close so I can't exactly tell her what happened. The last time I tried to let someone in, they stole my boyfriend and walked all over me so I'm a bit doubtful when it comes to being open to people these days.

"I'm sorry." She said almost immediately. "I shouldn't have asked that. I'm sorry if I overstepped."

I sighed deeply. "You didn't. I just don't want to talk about it now. If it's okay. I had a really tough night and it's just sickening to think about it."

She scoffed. "I'm guessing that we all did seeing the stunt that Natasha pulled last night." She spilt and my interest piqued. I was inside the cabin last night when I heard the screaming but didn't step outside until Levi did so I wasn't able to get a grasp of what went down. "What stunt did she pull?" I went further to ask.

She waved me off. "Don't worry about it. She's always used to being the centre of attraction so I'm not surprised. She claims that Asher Stark is a beast with fur and claws." She did quotes in the air at that statement. "I think she watched Twilight a little too much and that's why she's delusional."

"Where is she now?"

"Probably locked away somewhere to maintain the sanity of this place. Everyone thinks that she's finally going nuts so the teachers took her away last night and we haven't seen her since." She said, adjusting her glasses before tying her hair up into a messy bun. "But why do you care?" She asked. "You and Natasha are enemies and you don't seem to get along so why do you care about her all of a sudden?"

"I don't care about her." I lied through my teeth. "I just want to know that's all."

We finished getting ready and proceeded to join the rest of the class outside as we waited for further Instructions. I scanned through the crowd but didn't see any sign of Asher and Levi anywhere. I took that opportunity to sneak into Natasha's cabin. I wanted to have a word with her and hear what she has to say about it.

I got in and found her fixing her makeup as she stared at her reflection in the mirror. She paused when she saw me and resumed while ignoring me in the process. She didn't look like someone who was going nuts to me. If anything, she looked completely calm and coordinated.

"What do you want?" She mashed mascara in the bottle before applying it to her face. "Let me guess. They told you that I was crazy and you came here to see for yourself?"

"How are you doing?" I asked, ignoring her previous remark. "I heard about what happened last night and I came to-"

"Oh please spare me the crap and sob story about you caring about me Amery. I know that if you had the opportunity to, you would throw me off a cliff right this very instant." She glared at me. "Up until last night, you were going all out to get me out of the picture because you didn't want me close to your boyfriend."

"Natasha I-"

"But I don't care." She continued and placed the mascara on the desk right in front of her. "I don't date monsters so you can have him. But just so you know, stay away from him. Not everything is as it seems. I'm simply protecting my tribe of women but it doesn't mean I care about you though."

"Asher is not a monster." I deadpanned.

"He might not be to you but he is to me." She stated adamantly. "I saw him transform with my own two eyes. Everyone in this camp must think that I'm crazy or seeing things but it is nothing but the truth. He's not perfect as he claims to be and you'll see it too, eventually."

"Now you're just exaggerating." I pointed out in a bid to convince her so that she drops whatever she thinks she saw. "I'm guessing you had a bad dream about beasts and that's why you believed what the tour guide said at the bonfire night the other day. You have never liked horror movies and stories so it's just your imagination playing with you."

"How did you know it was a beast?" She asked out of the blue and turned to face me. "I never mentioned that he was a beast but you just said it so how did you know?"

I blinked rapidly. "My bunkmate told me that you kept on screaming that he was a beast."

She chuckled at my response. "It's all starting to make actual sense now. At first, I thought that I was going crazy but I'm beginning to see things a lot clearer now." "What are you talking about?"

"Isn't it a little strange that when they first arrived at our school, you were the only person they ever wanted to be with?" She inquired. "They were all fawning over you which was strange because you are nowhere near their standards. They kept trying to talk to you and did everything that they could to get close to you. Quincy even had to take the fall for you the last time. Why would they do that if of course, you don't know anything about them?"

"And now you're here, In my cabin trying to convince me that what I saw last night was a mistake. Why would you do that if you didn't think that I was telling the truth?" She asked but I remained silent. There's no way I'm answering any of her questions. "It's because you knew. You have always known." She declared.

"I'm here because I didn't want you making a fool of yourself."

"And why do you care if I do?" She primped. "You have never cared about anything I did up until now which only goes to prove that I'm saying the truth." She insisted. "Wait, you want me to believe that you went from slapping me last night to caring about my feelings? Do I look that dumb and stupid to you?"

She fixed her dress, still looking at me. "Thank you for clarifying that for me Amery because now, I will do everything in my power to make sure that I expose them and prove to the entire school that I am not crazy."

She walked past me, intentionally hitting my shoulders in the process. "I have always known that you have such horrible taste in men Amery. What an upgrade. From dating a beast like Sean to a real one. Your parents should be so proud of the daughter they raised." She clicked her tongue. And with that, she walked out of the cabin, leaving me to my thoughts.

My worst fears have been confirmed. Natasha had finally caught on. How on earth are we going to fix this now? This cannot be happening. What am I going to do now?
