AMERY

I woke up the next morning, feeling sore all over and exhausted. I had this urge to throw up and my head ached terribly. I rubbed my eyes and yawned sleepily, then sat up on the bamboo bed and stared blankly at the wall for a few minutes, then Suddenly, all the events of the previous day rushed in all at once, and that was when I took a good look at my surroundings. "Woah! So, all that wasn't a dream. I actually demonstrated some sort of power and I also almost got eaten alive by rogues," I said to myself.

I then recalled that I had fallen asleep when having a conversation with my mother and wondered how it was that I had gotten into this bed. The weakness I had initially felt disappeared as I immediately jumped out of bed, praying silently that I had indeed met my mother yesterday and it wasn't some sort of trance again or a mere figment of my imagination.

"Mum? Mum!" I called, stepping into the narrow passage, then pushed aside the curtain and found myself in the living room, where Asher was setting down breakfast on the centre table.

"Hey, you're awake," Asher said, and a smile appeared on his face.

"Where's my mum?" I instantly demanded.

Before he could open his mouth to reply, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around and then, I saw her. She was wearing loose trousers and a faded t-shirt, and she carried a tray in her hands. "Mum," I said, running to her, as tears clouded my eyes.

"What is it? Did you think I had somehow disappeared?" she asked, with a knowing chuckle.

I nodded my head in the affirmative like a little girl, and she just chuckled even harder and shook her head slowly. "I won't leave you ever again, okay?"

"Sure?"

"Yes, Ondina. I am sure," she responded, then handed me the cup in the tray she was holding.

"Thanks," I said, collecting it.

"It's chamomile tea. You should feel a little bit better after your long journey yesterday when you drink it all up," she assured.

I blew on it and proceeded to drink it up sip by sip.

"Did you sleep well?" she asked, motioning to me to sit on the sofa, which I did.

"Yes, thank you," I replied, then I turned to look at Asher who was done setting breakfast. It consisted of bacon, eggs and toast, and he seemed impressed with himself when he was done. "Did you assist my mother in making that?" I inquired.

"I would have, but she..."

"Won't you check up on your brother, Queen, and see if he's back from the town?" my mother rudely interrupted him, and I placed the cup on the table, wondering what was up with her sudden mood change. "His name is Quincy," Asher responded, and with a polite gesture, he left the living room and stepped outside.

"Did something happen while I was asleep, mum?" I asked.

She shook her head in negativity. "No, dear. Nothing happened," she responded.

I decided to let things be and just proceeded to lift the cup again and consume the rest of the chamomile tea. It tasted really good and it indeed was refreshing.

"I've been meaning to ask you, Ondina, how long are those boys going to be here?" she soon asked.

"Why? Don't you want them around?"

"I never said so. I was just curious. There's only one bedroom and I wouldn't like to inconvenience the Alpha Princes," my mother explained.

"Don't worry about that, I'm sure they don't mind. It's better than being back home with their father and they know it. Since there's a single bedroom though, where did they spend the night?" I asked. "Oh, that. They all slept in the living room. I slept next to you," she responded.

"I see. I can hear Quincy's voice. I think he's back," I said, then placed the empty cup on the table and went outside to see the boys. My mother tried to stop me, but I was already far gone before I realised it.

I opened the door and found Levi cutting up some firewood, Asher was busy throwing stones at the mango tree next to my mother's cottage, instead of just climbing it like a reasonable being and plucking the mangoes, while Quincy held a shivering kitten in his arms with a broad smile plastered on his face.

"You're awake," Levi said, lifting his head to look at me.

"Didn't Asher tell you?" I asked, staring at him, kind of distracted by the fact that he didn't have any shirt on. I loved seeing the sweat trickle down his abs and I felt a little bit turned on.

He winked at me, and I looked away, clearing my throat.

"Why did you go to the town?" I asked, walking towards Quincy, whose sole focus remained on the kitten in his arms.

"Your mother asked me to deliver some bottles of honey to specific people," Quincy explained.

"Really? What if someone saw you and told your father that you've returned?" I asked, with my eyes nearly bulging out of my sockets.

"That's why I wore this old hat I found, dropped the honey at their doorsteps, knocked on their doors and left before they opened the door," he explained.

"What? You just left? How about the money? You didn't wait to collect the money?" my mum asked suddenly, and I was surprised as I hadn't noticed she had followed closely behind me. "You... you didn't mention that I..."

"Isn't it common sense to get money in exchange for selling goods?" my mother asked. She was infuriated, and I hated the fact that they were arguing.

"I'm sorry, ma'am. I've never done something like this before, so I didn't know," Quincy apologised.

My mother scoffed. "Of course, you've never done something like this before. You've lived a sheltered life, haven't you? You..."

"It's okay, mum. You can always get the money from them later," I quickly chipped in to prevent any further exchange of words.

My mother swallowed hard. "I guess I can. One more thing though, I hope you're not planning on bringing that kitten into my house;" she said, eyeing him all over.

"It will just be for a little while..."

"Didn't you say you're sorry? If you're indeed sorry, don't bring that thing into my house. I'm allergic to cats," she explained.

I looked from my mother to Quincy, unsure of what to say.

"It's okay, ma'am. We'll find somewhere else for the kitten to stay," Levi told her.

"You better do, and put on some clothes. Your body is an eyesore," she hissed and was about to leave when she turned around and cast an annoyed glance at Asher. "You really should take permission before plucking fruits off someone else's tree," she stated, then walked away, and slammed the door behind her.

"I'm sorry about what happened just now. I think she's worked up about something," I said, giving an apologetic look to each of the three brothers, especially at Quincy because I felt sorry for him the most.

"It's okay," Levi and Asher mumbled. Always visit FindNovel.net for more novels and updates.

"Don't use this as an excuse to leave me all alone here. You have to be here with me through it all, and when I've gotten all the answers I need, we can all leave together," I said.

Levi smiled at me. "Sure thing," and Asher grunted a similar response.

Quincy had been quiet and I simply stroked the kitten's head. "I'll get some food for it. We could be its parents, what do you think?" I asked, with a toothy smile. "Sure," he simply said.

Quincy hardly ever got angry and I was determined to make him smile. "Hmm. Let's give it a name. What do you think about Flamingo or maybe Pooh-bear?" I asked.

As expected, a smile spread across his lips and he began to chuckle. "I don't think those names are appropriate for a cat," he said.

"Really? I guess we have to think of something else, then," I said, and just for a moment, I got lost in the sparkle of his beautiful hazel eyes.

My mother interrupted our little moment and called me in for breakfast. The boys refused to go in with me, stating that they were not feeling hungry, but I knew that they had chosen not to come because she had simply not invited them in for breakfast as well. I would go on to question my mother and wonder what made her act strangely towards the Alpha Princes, then she would act so sweetly, and I would become torn because somehow, I couldn't figure out what her deal was and the true personality she kept hidden.
