Claimed By My Three Alphas -
Chapter 167
AMERY'S
POV
"You need to get some sleep, Amery."
Asher comes up behind me, folding his arms as he leans against the wall.
I stare at him through the light layer of dust floating in the air. The collar of my shirt is pulled up to my nose, exposing my torso. Theres a broom in my hand, a dustpan on the floor, and items I found in one of the closets.
Its way past sundown, no ones eaten anything, and neither has anyone gotten any sleep. After the talk we had this morning, a solemn air settled over all of us. It's like no one is motivated to do anything. Except me. I'm motivated to clean this s**t hole.
"Why are you even doing this?"
Levi bypasses his brother, not sparing either of us a glance as he walks into the living room.
For some reason, I fight the urge to roll my eyes. He's had a stick up his a*s all day since this morning, at least, a bigger stick than usual.
Turning to face Asher, I answer his question, "It's really dirty in here. We have to clean up, and I can't sleep in this mess, theres dust on every surface."
*You've barely gotten any rest in the last twenty-four hours, you haven't slept a wink, you haven't eaten a damn thing, and you're concerned about the state of this house?"
I nod. He chuckles, shaking his head.
He closes the distance between us, pulling down my shirt so he can see my face fully, "We can handle all this tomorrow." He says, "We'll go look for some food, some clothes and anything else we might need for however long we plan on being here. For now, you need to get some sleep. I'll fold up one of the sheets on the beds for you, they're only dusty on one side, so you can rest on them for tonight. Tomorrow, we'll find a way to wash them up."
"But, everything is so funky-"
"Shhh," he silences me, pressing a finger to my lips, "No buts. We'll take care of. it tomorrow, get some rest.
Reluctantly, I nod my head. He leads the way and I trail after him, bypassing the living room on my way. I spot Levi, sprawled on the dusty couch, staring at nothing in particular.
I can't help but wonder what he's thinking.
I don't stop to ask though, following Asher down the hall and into one of the rooms.
Once I woke up the next morning, my stomach was growling with despair. I can't last much longer without putting food in my system.
Between my first shift and everything that happened two days ago, my body's fatigued. It needs the energy.
I step out of the room, walk down the hallway then immediately come to a halt. I look behind me, and then forward again. Confused, I take the remaining steps into the living room.
I twirl in a full circle, taking in every inch of the space.
It's... spotless.
Not a single spec of dust or debris is anywhere to be found.
The cobwebs have been wiped away, the couch looks like it was aired out.
"Despite everything I said," Asher walks into the room, shaking his head in disapproval, "Really? How did you even do all this by yourself."
I shake my head at him, still marvelling at it all, "I didn't do this."
His brows furrow, "No?" He cups the back of his head," Wow then, never knew Quincy was such a clean freak."
"m not," I hear his grumble from the hallway moments before Quincy walks into the room. He tosses his weight down on the now clean sofa, dust particles don't even rise from the foam with the force of his weight, "What I am is freakishly hungry though." "When did you do all this?" I ask him.
His eyes are closed, "I didn't."
Asher and I share a look.
"Hold up," Asher takes a step forward, "I didn't do this, neither of you did, and I know there's no way in hell Levi got on all fours to scrub grub off the floor. Where is he anyway?"
I shrug my shoulders, "I don't know, I just got out of bed."
"Haven't seen him all morning either," Quincy replies.
"You think he did this?" I ask Asher.
"No," he says, "I don't think that." He lets out a deep breath, parking both hands on his hips, "But he obviously did."
A ball of warmth blooms inside me, like a delicate flower.
*Could he have heard me complaining about the mess last night? He had walked in on my conversation with Asher.
I swallow the lump in my throat. He didn't do it for me, there's no way he could have preferred being in all that mess anyway. Maybe he just had the time on his hands and figured, why not? But there's a part of me that doesn't want to accept that.
The wood outside the front of the house groans, followed by two heavy thuds on the ground.
We all go out to see.
Levi's standing at the foot of the landing, dressed in a pair of grey sweats and a tight-fitting black t-shirt. There are two large duffle bags placed at his feet, one bigger than the other. "What's all this?" Quincy asks.
Levi bends at the hip, leaning down and unzipping the larger bag. It's filled to the brim with different packages, of food. He unzips the next, and I see that it contains a bunch of clothes. Rising to his full height, he says, "For the clothes, I couldn't make any preferences. They're thrifty, it's mostly just a variety of shirts and pants, but we'll make do."
He looks up, grey eyes shifting between both of his brothers. I notice with a start, that he doesn't meet my gaze.
"Did you clean the house?" I ask him.
His jaw ticks, and then he nods once.
"Why?" I whisper.
His answer comes out gruff, "It was dirty."
He still doesn't meet my eyes.
"Where did you get all this stuff?" Asher questions, kicking at the duffel of groceries.
"I was out scouting early this morning. Needed to understand where the hell we were. There's a town square about four miles from here, it's packed with people." "So what? You cried out in desperation and they took pity on you?" Asher asks.
Levi doesn't acknowledge his jib, I bought them."
"With what? Blood, sweat and tears?"
Levi fixes him with an annoyed stare,'
"Yes."
"Dude" I place a hand on Asher's shoulder, silently asking him to ease up. Levi's eyes dart to the action, looking away immediately.
"Thank you, Levi." I tell him, "This was all thoughtful of you.
He doesn't respond, just picks up the duffles and walks into the house.
