Claiming My Wolf -
Chapter 58
~~Logan’s PoV~~
I’m glad I know where Sadie and Micah are now, and as soon as he told me where he’d taken her, I saw just how smart it was. I don’t think anyone knows about that place besides us. It was forgotten a long time ago, and since Beta Aldric never cared much about what his son did, he probably never even knew that we used to play there, not like my dad did.
It’s about the only good news I have right now though. I keep getting reports of casualties. Obviously the Beta knows we’re tracking him now, so he’s started setting his people to attack us. I can’t believe these are our friends, our packmates, all turned against us, and for what? To take control of the pack and stop us mingling with humans? It all seems so petty and pointless to me, but they’re not going to get away with it.
I won’t let them.
I’m just about to link with the group that Aaron and Ava went with to tell them to head over to the house, since they’re closest to it, when a new voice echoes in my head.
‘Logan? Are you there?’
The voice takes me by surprise, but I know for sure whose voice it is. ‘Sadie? How are you linking to me?’
‘It’s a long story,’ she answers, sounding a little exasperated, like she’s said it before. ‘We’re coming to you now though, me and Micah. Where are you?’
What? That wasn’t the plan. ‘No, you need to stay there. I’m sending people to protect you.’
‘And who’s going to protect you?’
It’s a sweet question, but not the point. ‘I’m not the one people are trying to kill right now.’
“I wouldn’t be so sure about that.”
Those words are spoken out loud, and I turn around in shock to find the person who spoke them.
Beta Aldric stands behind me, in his human form, with wolves on either side of him. My small group instantly flanks me too, forming a standoff in the middle of the woods.
We’d be pretty evenly matched if this was a fair fight, but I already know enough about the Beta to know that whatever he’s got planned, it’s going to be cowardly and underhanded.
‘How did you hear my conversation with Sadie?’ I ask him, speaking to him in my head since I’m still in my wolf form. Sadie and I were talking by mind-link too, and it should have private.
“She linked the whole pack,” Aldric sneered, speaking aloud again so everyone could hear him, and I quickly turned to one of my wolves next to me to see if that was true. He nodded back at me to say he’d heard it too.
Really? I don’t understand how Sadie could link me at all, never mind link the whole pack. Usually only the highest-ranked wolves can do that. And obviously she didn’t mean to, she wouldn’t have wanted to give anything away.
In any case, it’s not my biggest worry right now. I look over the snarling, growling wolves next to the Beta, trying to figure out what his plan is.
He quickly answers for me. “Tell me where she is, Logan. If you do, I’ll let you live, you and anyone who surrenders with you. You can take them all and go find another pack to live in, far away from here.”
‘I’m not telling you anything,’ I growl at him in my head.
Aldric shrugs. “That’s your choice. But if you don’t, I’ll kill everyone who’s supported you. I’ll make you watch them die, just like your mother and sister did, with you knowing that you could have saved them. And then I’ll kill you too.”
As I stare at him in disbelief, I can’t believe we never knew just what a sick piece of s**t he really is. How can he stand there and talk to me about my mom and Kara when he’s the one who ordered their deaths?
‘I’m going to tear you apart, one piece at a time,’ I reply, staring at him with more hatred than I’ve ever felt for anyone. ‘You’re going to beg for mercy, beg for death, and I’ll laugh in your face.’
He laughs now. “That’s cute, Logan, but you don’t have the balls for that. You’re weak. You’re nothing but an afterthought. You were never meant to be Alpha, and you never will be. Now stop stalling and tell me where she is.”
“I’m right behind you, you son of a bitch.”
None of us heard Sadie approach. She made no sound, gave off no scent. I don’t know how it’s possible, and obviously Aldric doesn’t either as he spins around in disbelief to see her standing in the trees just a few paces away.
‘Now!’ I command my wolves and they spring forward to take out the Beta’s backup. Another wolf comes flying out of the trees to join the fray and I recognize Micah. He goes straight for his father, but he’s stopped by one of the others. I go to help him, trying to keep my eyes on Sadie as I fight, but there’s too much going on. All I can do is keep the wolves away from her and hope that she’s got some kind of plan for what to do with Beta Aldric.
