Divorced Heiress -
I am Not A Contract Chapter 1
The nerves and insecurity increased inside Abby at the moment she was left completely alone in the middle of the hallway, with Vincent behind her. She could feel his burning gaze on the back of her neck, she was not at all prepared to face the situation on that same day, not so soon; just a few hours ago she had found out about her pregnancy, taking her by surprise, she couldn't even fully grasp it.
Feeling her hands freezing like ice and her cheeks burning, she gathered her courage and turned around to look at Vincent, seeing his cold and expressionless green eyes, she knew she had to be prepared for anything and couldn't help but feel her heart shrinking in her chest at the mere idea that Vincent would react badly to the unexpected news.
Abby opened her mouth to speak, but swallowed each of her words when Vincent gestured for her to follow him with his head
"We will talk in my office, we will have more privacy."
Abby came to her senses upon hearing Vincent's icy words, she set aside her nerves and followed the steps of the brunette in complete silence.
Abby could only think that even though it wasn't how she had planned it from the beginning, she had to give him the news, whatever his reaction may be.
"There's nothing to fear." Abby repeated to herself over and over in her mind, while her heels echoed behind Vincent's steps.
Upon entering the office, Vincent closed the door behind Abby, who had gathered the strength to stay safe and not be intimidated by the stern face of the man who walked past her to look at the streets through the window.
The brunette took the necessary time to sit on the couch, as if she didn't have the right words to deliver the news directly, without him overhearing it at the least opportune moment. But there were only a couple of words left for him to find out.
"I'm pregnant," she blurted out without waiting for Vincent to turn around, she wanted to end that uncomfortable silence in the office, she wanted to get out of there as soon as possible to stop feeling so nervous and uncertain.
When those words left her mouth, Vincent furrowed his brow and felt a bad taste in his mouth, it was hard for him to believe that the woman sitting on his couch, the one who had refused from the beginning to accept the clauses of a contract that would have avoided all this, and the first woman who managed to enter his heart after having it locked up tight, was telling him that she was carrying his child in her womb.
For so many years, he had taken all precautions to avoid such a thing, and now, that he had dared to formalize for the first time in his life, what he had feared the most was happening.
"A child? No way." Vincent thought, knowing that the arrival of that baby would be a setback in his career. He had never imagined himself as a father, just thinking about it made his blood boil.
Vincent let out a heavy sigh before turning to Abby, who looked at him expectantly, waiting for some kind of response from him, some reaction, anything, no matter how small.
Of course, she was prepared for anything, but deep down, she wanted Vincent to smile from ear to ear, for his eyes to light up knowing that they would be parents, and for him to hug her so tight that her fears and insecurities would be forgotten. However, none of that happened.
All she could see was the slight furrowed brow, his somber eyes, and his tense body. That was not a good sign, even though she knew that Vincent was an emotionally detached person, she knew he had good feelings, that he was loving in his own way. Abby had seen the romantic side of this cold man, but that expression conveyed no trace of love, no joy, it conveyed nothing
"You're not going to have it."
When Abby heard that, she immediately stood up from the couch, feeling her blood boiling with anger, those words pierced her heart like thousands of needles.
"It has to be a damn joke." Abby thought, making her best effort not to let a lump form in her throat or she wouldn't be able to utter a word.
"Are you kidding me?" Abby remained calm, unbelieving, she hoped he would tell her that it was a bad joke any second now, she really hoped so, otherwise, her heart would be completely broken into pieces, she refused to believe that Vincent could disappoint her in such a way.
But that's exactly what he was about to do.
"Didn't you hear me? You're not going to have it, Abby." And yes, Abby's heart broke into a thousand pieces, but crumbling in front of him was not an option. This man in front of her was accustomed to having his desires become orders for anyone, but Abby was not just anyone.
It had been hard for her to accept the fact that the child of the man she had silently loved for a long time was growing inside her. Her bast friend had made her see reason, made her see the positive side on everything, and she didn't care what Vincent said or what he wanted, she would never agree to such madness.
"You've gone crazy! What kind of man thinks that way! You're very mistaken if you think I'm going to get rid of my baby just because you order it! You're nowhere near!"
Abby's patience vanished along with the admiration she felt for him, that Vincent wasn't what she thought, he had ruined his image with just a few words. Vincent fell from the pedestal Abby had him on.
"You've gone crazy! How dare you think we're going to have a child?! I don't want to have children! Being a father has never been part of my plans and you're not going to change that with... that!" Vincent replied in the worst way, he seemed agitated and unhinged, but Abby was more agitated, making her greatest effort not to beat him until he came to his senses. That? Is that how he referred to our child? What a huge jerk.
"You should have thought about that before f*****g me! Couldn't you afford to buy condoms?! You should have told me and I would have bought them! You're not even good for that!" Abby didn't hold back her words, she was hysterical, blinded by anger, screaming at Vincent without caring that they were in the company.
He's a miserable person, a damn i***t, I don't deserve this.
The brunette couldn't stop insulting and cursing him in her mind
Vincent walled up to her with a completely red face, standing face to face, he was annoyed and irritated, he wanted her to understand and agree to interrupt the pregnancy that would be an obstacle in his path, and at this point, he was not willing to stumble. But Abby stood firm, she wasn't willing to accept such a barbarity. If he didn't want his own child, he could disappear from her life, her maternal instinct was the only thing that accompanied her at that moment, she didn't even falter when Vincent looked at her with threatening and authoritative eyes.
"Is it my fault then? Am I the only one who has to be careful?" Vincent had to take a deep breath to calm the frustration caused by Abby's stubbornness.
He knew that yelling wasn't going to achieve anything other than making her defensive, he thought that maybe if he asked her in a better way, she would accept.
"Look, Abby, I'm asking you nicely, interrupt the pregnancy and we'll pretend like nothing happened, we'll still be the same." Every time Vincent insisted on the matter, Abby's disappointment grew in her chest.
Abby smiled falsely before letting out a heavy sigh, her cold hands stopped on Vincent's tie knot and tightened it slightly as if adjusting it.
Vincent could be almost sure that he had at least made her doubt.
How mistaken he was, the brunette wasn't going to give in, they weren't talking about a paper that could be thrown away and be indifferent to it.
"Vincent Lefebvre, it takes two people to make a baby, but one is enough to raise it. I'm not interested in pretending like nothing happened and continuing to be the same, because that will never happen again; you've just destroyed what we once were. If you don't want to have children, well, I accept it, forget about me and my baby." Abby spoke decisively, without hesitation, leaving no doubt in Vincent. In the next second, she tightened the tie knot forcefully, hurting Vincent's trachea.
"In case you never noticed, I'm not like the women you're used to, I won't do what you say if I don't agree with it, and in case you don't remember, I'm not a contract.*
