Divorced Heiress
I am Not A Contract Chapter 2

Vincent was astonished by Abby's serious words, the cold look in her eyes, which almost suffocated him with the knot of his tie. She made it clear to him that she wasn't playing around and that there was nothing that would make her change her mind He couldn't help but feel a pang in his chest, seeing that Abby had no hesitation in ending what they were building together, opting instead to bring into the world the baby that was growing in her belly. But just as she wouldn't change her mind, neither would he. He only thought about his prosperous businesses that would be interrupted by taking care of a child he never planned for.

Abby removed her hands from Vincent's tie and with an indifferent face, patted him on the shoulder a couple of times before turning around without being able to utter another word, the lump in her throat prevented her. But she felt relieved for having told him the truth to his face without crumbling, she surprised herself with how strong she was being.

She had gone through a difficult few days upon finding out that her mother and brother were criminals. It hurt her soul to witness the trial where they were sentenced to many years in prison.

But what hurt her even more was seeing her father, the only one in her family who truly cared about her, drowning in alcohol because of the bad decisions of his wife and son.

And just when she thought there was nothing that could surpass that disappointment, Vincent asks her to abort their child simply because he doesn't want to have children.

How can he be so cruel? That filthy, uncompromising dog will always be a heartless being, Abby thought, feeling her soul tear apart. She held back the tears that soon accumulated in her eyes as she walked towards the door, leaving Vincent behind She didn't want to see him ever again in her life. He was a disappointment of a man, not worth wasting her valuable time with.

Something more important had arrived in her life, something that awakened unfamiliar feelings in her. She was going to be a mother, no matter how hard it was for her to believe it.

And she was certain that she didn't need that scoundrel to take care of her baby. Abby was aware that she had always been very strong and, above all, capable.

"Abby! Come here, we're not finished talking, don't leave me hanging," Vincent called out to her with a cold voice, not moving from his spot.

He was accustomed to having things done his way, but with Abby, it was never like that. And that was what he liked most about her.

He knew she wasn't like the submissive women he had been with before her. But on this occasion, it angered him, it drove him crazy, it made his blood boil.

He didn't know what annoyed him more, that Abby was reluctant and determined to do the opposite of what he told her, or that she was leaving him without hesitating.

Abby didn't stop at his authoritative words, she swallowed the lump in her throat that made it hard for her to breathe and barely gave him a glance as she opened the door to leave, not without saying one last thing.

"If you have anything else to say to me, honestly, I don't care. You're a complete stranger to me," she said, her voice almost trembling.

And without waiting for a response, she closed the door behind her, leaving that man alone, breathing heavily, with a bitter taste in his mouth and anger filling his head.

As soon as she disappeared from Vincent's sight, her tears escaped from her eyes, one after another, unable to repress the pain in her chest that left her almost breathless.

She had never felt so miserable as she did that day. She felt that life was being unjust to her, that the more she gave, the less she received.

She questioned if she was the problem, as the people she loved the most ended up disappointing her.

But soon she stopped thinking about it, realizing that the problem was with them, that they only had malevolence in their hearts, or in Vincent's case, that he had no heart. She set aside the people who didn't add value to her life and thought about the wonderful people surrounding her, the ones she knew would never dare to upset her.

The image of her best friend's smiling face came to her mind, the one who would always be there for her, and now she needed her more than ever.

Tears fell freely as she walked with determined steps to Sarah Doinel's office. She didn't care that some workers passing by looked at her with curiosity and concern, but they didn't dare to greet her. However, she stopped when blue eyes, like the ocean, examined her face with a furrowed brow.

Julian, who was leaving Sarah's office lost in his thoughts, couldn't hide his concern when he saw her in that state.

There was no need for her to tell him the reason for her tears, he already imagined it, and he couldn't help but feel furious with that small man.

He wanted to approach her to comfort her, but he remembered how angry she was with him before announcing her pregnancy to the world.

He knew Abby's temperament, knew that she was capable of beating him up just because she was angry, yet, it didn't matter if he could receive a couple of slaps perhaps, he just approached her and without saying a word, surprised her by wrapping her in his arms. Abby's nostrils were filled with Julian's masculine perfume, and as soon as her head rested on his chest, she let out what she had repressed since the moment she closed Vincent's office door, her crying. -

"Relax, Abby, cry, let it all out, but know that he doesn't deserve a single one of your tears."

Julian's soft words managed to calm Abby's heart in some way, yet, she cried silently on the chest of the dark-haired man, who stroked her hair while looking at the onlookers with threatening eyes, and they continued on their way, understanding their boss's indirect threat.

"Let's go to my office, I'll get you some tea."

Abby opened her eyes upon hearing his words and realizing the spectacle she was making in the middle of the hallway, she couldn't allow herself to be seen like that, let alone risk having Vincent come out of his office and realize how weak she was being when he wasn't looking at her, never!

But beyond that, how could she cry on the chest of that man who minutes ago wanted to hit her?

She immediately moved away from Julian's arms, as if suddenly his touch burned her, and wiped her wet cheeks with the back of her hand while looking at him with killer eyes.

She didn't need Julian to console her, or to take her to his office and give her tea, she hated feeling pitied and that was what she was giving that man, she could console herself on her own.

"Have you gone crazy? I won't go anywhere with you, not even to the corner." Abby's bad mood returned right away, leaving the poor man confused and not knowing what to do.

He just raised his hands as if he were freeing himself from guilt while taking a step back, he knew very little about Abby, but he knew perfectly well that it wouldn't go well for him if he didn't disappear from her sight in the next few seconds.

Although Julian disliked seeing her in that state, he preferred to give her space and let her calm down in her own way, he wasn't going to force her or push her into something she felt uncomfortable with, even though he wanted to see the usual Abby, he preferred a thousand times that woman who insulted him and said harsh things, than the devastated woman in front of his eyes.

Julian straightened his suit, which had been slightly dampened by Abby's tears, and silently resumed his path, he had the urge to go to the i***t and the cause of that woman's sadness, but that wasn't his problem.

Abby continued on her way to Sarah's office, and although Julian's hug helped her recover a little, it wasn't enough to make the bitter sensation of a lump in her throat and a pang in her heart disappear. In Vincent's office, the temperature seemed to have gradually decreased.

Vincent was furious, he didn't know it, but he was letting go of a brilliant and wonderful woman, slipping through his fingers was the best thing that could happen to him in life, having a family with a woman who adored him, but he didn't even make the slightest effort to go after her.

He couldn't even stand his own bad mood, he was annoyed at being abandoned by his girlfriend, but he had brought it upon himself, for a second he tried to imagine himself as father. However, the balance was against him, it was impossible for him to think of anything other than his business, he was a complete selfish, a great blind person.

With boiling blood in his system, he poured himself a glass of whiskey and drank it in one go, thinking it could calm his bad mood. But he failed and ended up smashing the empty glass against the wall, shattering it, just like Abby's heart. That didn't seem enough for him to vent, in a fit of anger, he dragged his hands across the desk, throwing everything to the floor.

Evidently, he was having a mental mess, deep down he knew he wasn't doing things correctly, he didn't want to admit it, but fear was the reflection of that man who wanted to keep everything under control, and he would as long as he distanced himself from everyone, including that baby who wasn't at fault.

He sat in his chair for a long time, with his gaze lost in the window. Those minutes served him to make a decision that he knew would not only disappoint Abby but everyone.

The door to his office opened and he immediately turned around with the hope of seeing Abby back, ready to reach a reasonable agreement.

He didn't want to lose her, but he was discouraged when he saw Alexander Lancaster closing the door behind him and looking in surprise at the mess he had caused, but it was nothing compared to the mess of his decisions.

"If Abby sent you, I'm telling you right now that nothing will make me change my mind," Vincent didn't even give Alexander a chance to speak first. Still sitting in his chair, he loosened the knot of his tie that was starting to suffocate him as if Abby was still tightening

it.

"I came on my own," Alexander replied, carefully picking up i some folders from the floor, being careful not to cut himself on the broken glass. He left what he could gather on the desk and sat in front of Vincent, who had a somber look.

"Do you realize what you're doing?"

Alexander's question caught Vincent's attention, causing him to immediately become defensive.

Vincent knew perfectly well Alexander's intentions and that annoyed him even more. He wasn't a small child to be told what to do; he wouldn't do what was right if it didn't come to him naturally.

"With all due respect, Alexander, I don't need you to come and tell me absolutely anything about Abby and that baby," Vincent responded immediately, showing that he wouldn't make the right decisions.

"That baby is your son! For god's sake, do you realize what you're doing? You're breaking a woman who is willing to take a bullet for you! You know my story perfectly well, and you know what I would have given to have been with Sarah during her pregnancy from the very beginning, and you, you're throwing it all away for a stupid ideology that will make you the unhappiest man in the world!"

Alexander didn't miss the opportunity to try to open the eyes of the man who was blinded by his own ideas and plans that in the future would make him realize that none of it would truly fulfill him.

"It's not your damn problem! I don't want and I don't plan on having children, not with Abby or any other woman, even if it means distancing myself from everyone! There's no room for such a big responsibility in my business! You and I are not the same!" Vincent responded angrily as he stood up from his chair without moving from his spot.

Alexander couldn't believe what he was hearing, he didn't know this man who spoke with such certainty, unable to hide his rage.

Does he find being a father so distasteful? He doesn't know what he's talking about! Alexander thought as he looked at him completely surprised.

"You don't even think for a moment, you don't even have an ounce of empathy for Abby, do you know what she's going through? Of course not, because you only think about your own interests," Alexander replied, realizing immediately that he would only be wasting his time. Convincing him was a lost cause, he could tell by Vincent's contemptuous gaze.

"Of course we're not the same," he continued as he stood up from his chair without taking his eyes off that man who seemed to have no feelings.

"And that's why I am now immensely happy with Sarah and my son, as a family. Of course we don't think alike, I'm not selfish. And you know what's even sadder? That your business won't be there in any circumstance, but a family, my friend, family will always be unconditionally there. Now I answer yourself, will your decision make you happy?"
