Divorced Heiress -
I am Not A Contract Chapter 3
Abby couldn't stop the tears that escaped from her eyes one after another, as she looked at the ceiling of her room lying in the comfort of her bed, but that day in particular, she felt as if thousands of needles were stabbing her back. Her head was a mess, she had accumulated more than one problem in such a short time, that she couldn't even imagine getting out of each and every one of them.
"At what moment did everything change so drastically? My family was destroyed in an instant, and when I thought that being by Vincent's side I could stop thinking about all the wrong my mom and brother did, then he surprises me, being the cruelest person on earth. He's a miserable dog! Interrupt my pregnancy? He's daydreaming!" Abby spoke to herself in the solitude of her room, never ceasing to feel frustrated and angry.
It was her way of venting and thinking in a calmer manner, the perfect place to let out everything she had inside without hurting someone with her impulsiveness.
"It took me a while to realize that the being growing in my womb is the most valuable thing that has come into my life, not even luxuries, jewels, or cars could compare to the value of my baby. It only took a few hours to understand that it has come into my life to change it, to give it meaning, to give me a chance to be happy with my own family and in my own way. it hasn't come at a bad time, in fact, it has come at the perfect time. Yes, and even if Vincent doesn't want it, he won't need anything, because ! will give it everything, I will give it what I lacked. I can't wait to meet you."
Abby wiped the moisture from her cheeks with the back of her hands and jumped out of bed to approach the mirror and carefully observe her still flat belly.
Despite being born with a silver spoon and having everything she wanted, she had never been certain like in that moment that happiness was not given by money, in reality, her true happiness was growing inside her.
She was eager to have it in her arms and teach it so many things that she wished she had been taught, she would fill it with values, she was determined to raise a good person, that was her only objective.
All her bad and disappointing experiences disappeared with the unstoppable desire to become a mother, the best mother.
The next day, she woke up with a completely different demeanor, the sparkle in her eyes made her look radiant, her mood had skyrocketed, she seemed to be the same old Abby, only happier and more positive than ever before, that day she would see her baby for the first time and the excitement was evident in every pore.
She couldn't help but shed a few tears when she saw the confusing image of her baby in her first ultrasound, and even though all she saw was a black screen with a tiny gray spot, she was more excited than ever, it was difficult for her to believe that something so small at four weeks of gestation was the reason for her happiness from now on.
At the L&J company, Vincent drummed his fingers impatiently on his desk; the night before he had made a decision that, for him, was the best for everyone.
After half an hour of impatiently waiting in his office, the door was opened without being touched, revealing that dark-haired man with hazel eyes, his cheerful smile and his usual good mood, brightening up the gloomy atmosphere caused by Vincents bad temper. "Brother! Why so cheerful?" Bastian Lefebvre greeted him mockingly, realizing that Vincent couldn't stand himself.
He was curious to know what had him in that state, since a few weeks ago he had been happy after confessing his feelings to Abby and starting a relationship. Bastian knew his older brother well and knew that anything could put him in that grouchy mood, but he never imagined what was behind it all.
"I suppose it has something to do with your call. I'm all ears, I hope it's not related to the company, I'm busy working on my projects."
Bastian didn't even wait for his brother to invite him to sit, he simply poured himself a glass of whisky and sat down in the chair in front of his desk, face to face with Vincent, eager to hear what he had to say.
He hadn't seen him since the launch of Sarah Doinel's new brand. At that event where he discovered that he liked the same woman as his brother, but considering that Abby was obviously in love with the eldest Lefebvre, he chose not to express his feelings to that cheerful and eloquent woman who captivated him with her wit, and even though he had a small percentage of L&J shares.
He remained distant and unaware of what was happening in the company, he needed space to dissipate what he felt for Abby Dubois, but apparently, every time he tried to forget her, he remembered her more.
Of course, for Bastian, that was not right, that's why he distanced himself, the last thing he wanted was to get involved in family conflicts for a woman who didn't feel the same way about him.
Bastian made efforts to get her out of his mind, but it was really difficult for him because he had discovered how much he was attracted to the forbidden, and above all, he thought about that day he spent with Abby at the L&J launch, he couldn't remember having such a wonderful day by his side.
How do I stop thinking about my brother's wife? Damn, Bastian thought as he took a sip of his whiskey without taking his eyes off Vincent, who completely ignored every word from his younger brother as he focused all his attention on the documents he was finishing to organize to hand over to the dark-haired man.
"I'll leave you all my shares of L&J."
When Vincent said those words as if they were the most casual thing in the world, Bastian choked on his drink and had to spit out the whiskey to cough uncontrollably.
Vincent didn't flinch, although Bastian continued coughing as if he was about to spit out a lung at any moment. He silently placed the folder with the transfer of shares on the desk in front of the dark-haired man and immediately stood up to pour himself a glass of whiskey. He needed it.
"Tell me you're joking," Bastian said as soon as he recovered and hesitated to browse through the folder as if his death sentence was written in those documents. Vincent downed his drink in one go, burning his throat, and casually returned to the desk as if it wasn't such an important matter.
"I'm leaving you all my shares. You're the only person I can trust with such a thing. You're my brother. I know my shares are in good hands; Hugo is not as responsible as you. I think you're the only person right now who doesn't want to beat me up," Vincent replied expressionless as he packed his belongings into a box. He had nothing else to do in that place.
Bastian was still in shock and, with words that showed no hint of a joke, glanced at the document with a furrowed brow, confirming that his brother's shares were now under his name. He just needed to sign it for it to become a reality. Vincent was leaving.
Bastian had more than one question in mind when he finished reading the last page and closed the folder to look at Vincent in astonishment. Since he received his call, he knew that something was not right or that maybe something was bothering him and he wanted his brother's support, but he didn't imagine it could be so serious or important enough to give him everything without asking for anything in return.
He was giving away his job, his money. Vincent was suddenly abandoning ship, and Bastian suddenly felt the need to know why.
*Wait a moment, you're catching me by surprise. Why are you doing this? Did you have a problem with Sarah? She's our cousin, we can find a solution. I don't think she wants to beat you up, why would she? We all know how much she appreciates you. Sit down and let's talk about this calmly."
Bastian refused to accept such a thing. He had no idea what was happening or what led Vincent to make that drastic decision, but he couldn't stop thinking that it could be solved. How wrong he was.
