Divorced Heiress
I am Not A Contract Chapter 9

The sepulchral silence that fell over the office after Sarah uttered those words stunned everyone present. Julian and Abby couldn't believe what they had just heard.

Abby's legs trembled slightly upon hearing the news Sarah dropped like a bomb. Suddenly, a stabbing pain lodged in her chest, making it difficult for her to breathe normally.

Her hands tightly gripped the document Sarah had handed her, and inexplicably, she feared reading it, as if holding it that way could stabilize her body, which threatened to collapse weakly to the ground.

The brunette forced herself to hold back the tears, as she swallowed hard in an attempt to dissolve the knot that had formed in her throat. She repeated to herself a thousand times that the wretched bastard didn't deserve a single tear shed in his name. With that unexpected news, Abby's disappointment in Vincent was complete.

Deep in her heart, she held onto a tiny hope that he would take some time to reconsider the situation and change his mind, realizing that becoming a father was not the tragedy he believed it to be.

Until that moment, she believed that Vincent Lefebvre would accept the baby on the way as his firstborn and they would form a family full of love and values.

Nothing turned out as she had imagined, nothing happened that she longed for deep in her heart.

"Vincent, the Vincent we all know, left the company just like that? Without even showing his face? Is that true?" Julian was the first to speak, after quickly and discreetly glancing at Abby's face

The blue eyed man was completely bewildered; he couldn't even believe him capable of such a thing.

Then, the concern that he thought had completely disappeared from his chest quickly grew as he linked Vincent's departure to Abby's surprising pregnancy.

He didn't know how to feel or what to do, but at that moment, he understood that things were worse than he had thought.

He couldn't even imagine how Abby was feeling inside at that precise moment. However, seeing the rosy-cheeked brunette with irregular breathing on the other side of the desk, he realized that she was trying to hide how much she was being affected by finding out that Vincent had left without explanation.

It was more than evident that Abby was devastated, but she didn't want to show it.

He abandoned her. They abandoned her, Julian thought, feeling a great displeasure in his chest.

He completely disapproved of the decisions of a coward like Vincent, who would only hurt such a wonderfully transparent and strong person like Abby. Julian simply insulted him and cursed him in his mind.

"Incredible, but true," Sarah responded before looking at Abby, who remained petrified in her place with glazed eyes, making her utmost effort to regain her breath or she would faint any second.

"I will convene an extraordinary board meeting. We will address issues regarding L&J and Doinel, there will be changes with Vincent's departure."

Julian couldn't get over his amazement. It was hard for him to believe what was happening.

Vincent abandons all his effort and work of so many years, out of sheer male pride, over a pregnancy he could have avoided if it had occurred to him to use a condom. Poor Abby! Vincent is a disgrace! Julian thought, feeling sorry for Abby. Now he knew he had to be more patient with her and offer her unconditional support.

Abby snapped out of it when she heard that there would be a last-minute board meeting, and she realized that she hadn't yet read the document in her hands, and that if Sarah had specifically handed it to her, it must be important.

Quickly and without wasting any more time, she focused all her attention on the document, no longer hearing what others were talking about.

"Hugo is on his way," Bastian said after checking the message from his younger brother and putting his phone in his pants pocket, before stopping to stare at Abby's flushed face. His eyes moved as she read word by word, unable to help furrowing his brow as he understood what the document was about.

Bastian felt the need to approach her and wrap her in his arms, to tell her that everything would be fine, that what was happening was for the best for her and she would realize it in the future.

He wanted to make her smile, change her mood, but all he could do was watch every expression on her face as she read Vincent's shares transfer document.

"Perfect. Alexander will arrive in a moment with Alexis, in one hour we will begin the meeting, I will tell Jack to prepare everything." Sarah said worriedly and she hoped Abby would finish reading the document and prayed inside that she wouldn't lose control, it wasn't good in her condition.

Abby read until the last word, ignoring the words of the others, and couldn't help but feel a pain in her heart, as if it were pierced by thousands of needles.

He gave away his shares and ran away, What a coward,Vincent Lefebvre! thought Abby, feeling the anger beginning to bubble up in her system, but she contained it for the sake of her pregnancy, for the sake of her baby.

"From this moment on, you are dead to me and my child.

You have decided to leave and despise your own child, so we will not exist for you."

Abby's gaze automatically stopped on Bastian's face, who quickly averted his eyes so she wouldn't notice that she was staring at him, but he couldn't disguise it at all.

Abby soon thought that Bastian was on her brother's side, that he agreed with everything he was doing and that's why he agreed to have the shares put in his name.

Taking a deep breath and determined to end any topic related to who is now her worst nightmare, Abby handed the document to Bastian without hiding her expression of disgust towards him.

"I see." Abby spoke to Bastian reluctantly, and he immediately understood what the brunette meant by it, but it was not the time or place to clarify the situation, he was sure that she wouldn't listen to him, he could see it on her face and the way she moved her hand away when she received the document.

"I will finish packing my things and be ready for the meeting."

When Abby said that, Julian and Bastian looked at her without hiding the confusion mixed with surprise, only Sarah knew that she was leaving the company, however, with Vincent's departure, she had no more reasons to leave.

"Are you leaving?" Julian asked confused almost automatically, and his gaze stopped on his desk where Abby had left some of her things, now he understood why she was taking everything out of place, she was packing her things "Nobody leaves until the board meeting is over." Sarah intervened with total seriousness, interrupting the words Abby was about to say, in an attempt to stop whatever she was thinking of doing.

Sarah could only think that she would do the impossible to prevent her best friend from leaving.

Abby looked at her with strangeness, it was the first time she heard Sarah using that tone with her, she didn't even have time to respond or react, as Sarah was already leaving her office without adding another word.

In fact, everyone had frozen upon hearing Sarah, however, Bastian followed her as if escaping from the brunette, until they both disappeared from Abby and Julian's sight, leaving them alone once again in the office. "And then they say I'm the crazy one."
