Divorced Heiress
I am Not A Contract Chapter 8

Abby closed the office door behind her, holding back the tears that had welled up in her eyes. Her mood had changed for the sixth time that day. Now she wasn't angry, no, she felt frustrated, irritated.

She wanted to cry and throw all the objects in her office.

She wanted to curl up on the couch and know nothing of the world. But she stopped when she once again looked at the first images of her baby. She had no reason to lose control.

On the contrary, she had a great reason to smile and be radiant. She wouldn't let her emotions overwhelm her. Every time she felt that everything was going wrong, she would look at her baby, even though the images were still unclear. Abby took a deep breath and caressed her still-flat belly, as if she could touch the baby inside her.

"The Lefebvre's can go to hell and back three times, I don't care as long as you're with me," Abby spoke in the solitude of her office, as if her child could hear and even understand what she was saying.

"You are my refuge, you make me very happy."

Abby smiled as she spun around the office, never ceasing to touch her belly. Anyone who saw her in that way would say she had lost her sanity, but in reality, she had never been more sane than in that moment.

In less than a day, her life had taken a drastic change, and she eagerly awaited the passing of the days to meet her child, to hold them in her arms and endlessly thank them for giving meaning to her days.

A knock on the door interrupted her in the midst of her mother-child moment. Her eyes fixed on the door as if she could see through it, and she took a deep breath to maintain her state of calm. It didn't matter who was calling her office, not even Vincent himself could make her falter.

"Come in!" Abby responded energetically, reaching her chair and enjoying sitting in it for the last time. She felt relieved to see that it wasn't Bastian entering, but Julian.

"Can I come in?" Julian timidly asked, only poking his head inside out of fear of being hit by an object Abby might throw at him.

Anything crazy could be expected from her; he still hadn't forgotten how she cried inconsolably on his shoulder the day before and then treated him poorly. In fact, that was the reason Julian was there.

Despite Abby's bad temper, he was worried about her. He just wanted to know how she was doing.

"Haven't you heard me say 'come in? Come in, come in.

How can I help you?" Abby asked, with a smile from ear to ear, as if she hadn't just had a negative reaction upon seeing Bastian. Julian entered the office, not without making sure everything was in order, as he didn't fully trust Abby's smile.

"Are you not even going to throw a pen at me?" Julian asked as he reached his desk, and Abby chuckled as she began to gather her belongings.

"Although I have reasons to do so, I won't, Abby admitted, being very sincere

"You can sit down, I won't do anything to you."

"Well, I'm glad. I wanted to know how you are. Is your pregnancy going well? You worried me yesterday. Are you okay?" Julian asked, taking advantage of Abby letting her guard down as he sat in the chair she indicated.

Abby stopped collecting the folders she had to take with her and looked at Julian closely. It took her two seconds to decide whether to answer his question or simply tell him it was none of his business, but she soon set aside her bad temper because Julian wasn't to blame for anything. He was just worried about her.

"I'm fine, Julian. You don't have to worry about anything.

My pregnancy is going great. I have to follow some guidelines for the first trimester, nothing out of the ordinary, just the usual care for pregnant women, I suppose," Abby replied calmly and very kindly to Julian, who was surprised by the way the brunette treated him but still didn't fully trust her.

He feared that at any moment she would turn into a beast..

"That's good to hear. I'm glad to know that. So if everything is fine, I can be more at ease for you," Julian said, releasing the breath he had been holding since he asked the last question. Knowing that Abby was fine and had a better demeanor than the day before, he stood up with the v intention of leaving her alone, but Abby stopped him.

"Wait, you've just arrived, I want to show you the most beautiful thing you'll see today," said a smiling Abby before handing him the ultrasound images, where only a tiny spot could be seen.

Julian couldn't make head or tail of it, but he still smiled and nodded while keeping his eyes on the ultrasound.

"Wow, it's your baby."

Abby laughed when she saw Julian making a great effort to try to understand the images.

"You can't see any shape, can you?"

Julian looked at Abby without knowing what to answer and just nodded while pointing at the spot.

"Of course you can, look, here's the, the, the... I mean, the..." No matter how much Julian tried not to offend the future mother or embarrass himself, he failed and only made Abby burst into laughter that resonated throughout the office. "It's obvious, of course I can see a shape, in fact, look, it's a girl."

Abby's laughter sounded even louder and Julian, far from feeling embarrassed or ridiculous, felt satisfied for being able to make that woman who had been going through a hard time laugh.

"You're so silly, you can't know that until a few months later. I just hope she doesn't look anything like her father, whether it's a boy or a girl," Abby said, looking at the images with a smile. Julian immediately reacted when he saw her expression starting to change.

"You will be an excellent mother, and Abby, you have an unconditional friend in me. You can count on me for anything, okay?" Julian took her hand and Abby looked up into his ocean-blue eyes, nodded with a slight smile in response. "And congratulations!"

Before Abby could reply, the door opened, revealing Sarah accompanied by Bastian. It didn't go unnoticed by Bastian when Abby let go of Julian's grip, and it was inevitable that his unfriendly gaze lingered on the dark-haired man's face. "I'm glad I find both of you here because I have some news to tell you." Sarah didn't even wait for anyone to say a word.

The sooner she gave them the news, the sooner they would look for options and get out of the situation Vincent put them all in.

Sarah made her way into the office, and Bastian followed in complete silence until he stood behind Julian.

He couldn't lie to himself, Bastian felt jealous of the blue-eyed man, jealous of how he treated him when they greeted and how he was suddenly treating that man.

But he understood that it was because of Vincent, everything would be a process with Abby.

On the other hand, Abby had to remain calm. She had already decided that no Lefebvre would disturb her state of mind

"What news? What happened?" asked Abby worriedly, silently praying that it wasn't bad news. She wasn't in a condition to endure more tragedies in her life, she was already exhausted.

Sarah gave a quick glance at Bastian and couldn't help but remember the conversation they had in her office a while ago. Who would have imagined that Bastian would end up falling in love with his fake girlfriend?

After taking a deep breath, she handed Abby Bastians document so that she could understand and reconsider the idea of leaving.

"Vincent never ceases to surprise us. He is no longer a partner in L&J, he left the company."
