Divorced Heiress -
I am Not A Contract Chapter 19
Bastian's heart stopped for a moment and he felt like he was lacking oxygen.
When he received Julian's call, he thought he would hear a couple of news about L&), but he never imagined he would hear that Paul had escaped from prison, nor that Sarah and Alexander were kidnapped by him, much less that Abby was on her way to meet him, risking her life and the life of the baby she carried in her womb. Upon hearing Julian's words, Bastian felt like the ground was disappearing beneath his feet. Suddenly, his heart started beating strongly in his chest and a feeling of panic took hold of him, a wave of fear and concern flooded him.
He opened his mouth to ask for more information, but the words got stuck in his throat. His whole body was frozen. It wasn't until he heard Jane's voice behind him that he came back to his senses.
"Bastian, are you alright?" Jane asked, noticing that Bastian's muscles were tense, he didn't move at all and his hand was gripping the phone tightly, as if he could break it any moment.
"What? What are you saying, Julian?" Bastian's trembling voice could barely be heard. Jane couldn't even hear what he had said, and Julian barely understood him.
On the other end of the line, Julian took a deep breath before speaking.
"Aren't you listening to me? I'll send you the location that Abby has sent me. I've already notified the authorities, but I need you to make sure that the police will really go, I don't fully trust it. We're on our way and..." Julian informed him of everything, but he was interrupted by Bastian, who was starting to feel desperate and somewhat guilty.
While the others were in danger, he was visiting his ex-girlfriend.
"Send me the location now, Julian!" Bastian unexpectedly shouted into the phone, startling Jane, who was about to approach him to find out what had him so tense, but she stayed still in her place.
"And please, take care of Abby as if she were the most precious thing in your life," he added before ending the call and quickly entered the elevator when it finally arrived.
"Bastian, wait!" Jane ran towards the elevator, but she didn't have time to reach it, as Bastian pressed the button for the metal doors to close, disappearing from his ex-girlfriend's sight.
She felt frustrated for not achieving even the slightest thing.
"Damn it! It had to be because of that wiike!" Jane ended up throwing one of her ornaments against the metal doors, shattering it into thousands of pieces.
Inside the elevator, Bastian called an old friend who worked in the police department to inform him about the situation.
Despite his initial fear, he filled himself with determination.
He knew he had to do everything possible to ensure that no one got hurt, despite being kilometers away.
"Abby, brave Abby." Although he was scared, his love and concern for Abby were stronger than his fear.
So, with the address Julian gave him and a clear objective in mind, Bastian dashed out of that building, determined to reach Abby before it was too late.
Abby had never felt so scared in her life, not even when she found out she was pregnant, or when she learned that her mother and brother were criminals. But it wasn't for herself, it was for Sarah and Alexander.
Feeling her heart in her ears and nerves bubbling in her system, but with great determination, Abby parked the car at the back of the house, where she knew she could go unnoticed.
She grabbed the gun and loaded it, leaving the safety on.
She truly hoped she wouldn't have to use it, but she didnt see any other way to do something about it, and the police still hadn't arrived.
When Julian approached Abby, he was greatly frightened, and the color drained from his face when he saw the gun in the hands of the woman he was supposed to protect with his life.
But he held back any comment when Abby put a finger on his lips, signaling him to be quiet, and made a gesture with her hand for him to follow her.
"Don't you think it's better if I carry the gun?" Julian asked behind her, remembering Bastian's words.
He certainly wouldn't forgive himself if anything happened to Abby when he could have prevented it or maybe protected her. Abby rolled her eyes in the middle of the road upon hearing Julian's question, and stopped to offer him the gun. They were not in the best situation to argue about who should be braver.
"Do you know how to use it?" an irritated Abby asked, restraining the urge to slap her palm on her head.
Julian froze and stared at the gun Abby was offering him.
He had never touched a gun in his life, he wouldn't even know how to remove the safety, so he shook his head in response.
"Then shut up and follow me, we can't waste time, idiot."
Without further ado, Julian followed Abby in complete silence, left with few options to protect her, not even a plan, he just followed her without knowing what to do.
When they reached the fence surrounding the house, Abby kept the gun in the waistband of her pants to be able to climb and pass to the other side with great skill.
At that point, Abby stopped to think that she should be careful in her state, but desperation and adrenaline overwhelmed her greatly.
Abby looked at Julian through the fence, hoping he would climb in the same way, and all she could see was his surprised face
Julian had no clue how Abby could pass so easily as if she had done it a million times, it was incredible.
On the other side, Abby let out a heavy sigh and gave Julian a piercing look, she didn't have time to waste, if he didn't climb to cross, she would leave him there and enter alone to save her friends.
Julian snapped out of it at the unfriendly look from Abby and clumsily climbed, feeling like he might fall on his head at any moment, then he jumped onto Abby's side making more noise than the skillful woman did.
Abby signaled him to be silent with her finger and continued on her way.
The place was just as she had imagined, full of dust and cobwebs from lack of maintenance, her house truly looked abandoned.
Walking in complete silence with the gun in her hand, she hoped to hear the slightest noise that would give her a clue about the exact location of that wretched person.
Julian took a breath, realizing that he had to confront whatever it was and filled himself with courage, silently praying for the police to arrive soon.
Fortunately for both of them or perhaps unfortunately, they heard Sarahs screams coming from the basement. Abby swallowed hard as she exchanged glances with Julian, who was scared and pale, but determined to do anything. "Stay behind me, we'll go down silently," Abby whispered to him, before starting to descend the dusty stairs.
"I feel strange, it should be the other way around, I should be protecting you," Julian whispered, but Abby ignored him, she didn't need a hero, nor could she afford to be scared, she had to be brave and deal with her brother if necessary. She suddenly stopped in her tracks upon hearing the deafening sound of a gunshot when she was about to reach the door leading to the basement.
"Shit."
Abby's heart was pounding so hard it could almost burst out of her chest, and Julian's breathing became erratic, his legs trembling with panic. They both feared the worst when Sarahs agonizing screams echoed throughout the place. "No! You're a f***g murderer!"
Upon hearing that, Abby didn't stop to think anymore and continued down the stairs, encountering the worst scene.
Sarah was bound hand and foot, Alexander lay motionless on the floor with his gaze fixed on Sarah's face, and Paul was out of control.
"Shut the f*****g mouth! My patience is worn out! I'll kill that bastard for not fulfilling, then you'll make the transfer and die."
Paul aimed his gun at Alexander's head, his eyes filled with malice, and with great speed, Abby released the safety on her gun, ready to fire the first shot, she didn't care about anything, she just wanted to prevent her brother from killing her friends, even if it meant becoming a killer herself.
"This is your end, Alexander Lancaster."
"But of course not, my love, I won't allow you to keep hurting my people, I don't care if you're my brother, if you share my blood, you will not leave here without paying for everything you've caused."
Without wasting another second, she aimed precisely at Paul's hand holding the gun and didn't hesitate to shoot.Paul dropped the weapon upon feeling the strong impact of the shot, confusion was great upon hearing the blast, but not as much as the panic that appeared on his face.
Almost immediately, Abby fired a second time and Paul's cry of pain echoed throughout the place as the bullet hit his leg, leaving him lying on the ground writhing in agony.
"The damn end is for you, Paul Dubois!"
