Divorced Heiress -
I am Not A Contract Chapter 20
Abby's hand began to tremble as she realized what she had just done. Adrenaline had taken hold of her, and she didn't hesitate to hurt her own brother in order to save her friends.
Abby was stunned, and a tear escaped from her eye as she watched Julian run towards Paul's weapon and take it in his hand to make sure he couldn't reach it, before running to free Sarah and help Alexander, who was unconscious and bleeding on the ground. Although the inconsolable tears of fear from Sarah filled the place, as she saw Alexander not reacting, and Paul's insults resounded throughout the area, Abby only heard a buzzing sound. She could see that everyone was running around in desperation, but she couldn't hear a single sound of what was happening right in front of her eyes. She stood there, remembering the happy moments she had shared with her brother in their childhood. She couldn't believe that the person she loved so much, who was lying on the ground in pain and looking at her, had become a criminal. The one she had entrusted so many secrets to, the only one in her family who had shown her unconditional love. However, her love for her friends and her desire to protect them pushed her forward. Soon, she was back in reality and lowered the weapon by her side while wiping away the rebellious tear that rolled down her cheek.
In that moment, when she sharpened her hearing, she heard the police sirens resonating from a distance as patrol cars approached the abandoned house.
Abby took the opportunity to approach her brother with anger and resentment in her eyes, but with courage, she confronted him.
"Come on! Kill me! Shoot me once more! You're just like me, even if you deny it, it's in our blood," Paul challenged Abby from the ground, preferring to die as a coward with no way out.
Abby let out a bitter laugh upon hearing her brother's words, and she leaned down to him, seeing how his pants were stained with blood.
"You're wrong, I'm not like you. I'm not like Margaret. I'm not a killer. I won't kill you, I won't make it that easy for you," she said, putting the safety on the weapon before tucking it back into the waistband of her pants, and she let out a sigh before continuing. "You were my role model, all this time I thought you deserved all the good things in life. I could have vouched for you, but you turned out to be a piece of s**t, the worst person that could exist on this earth. The only thing you deserve is to rot in prison. I hate you, Paul."
Abby's words seemed to touch something in her brother, as his eyes started to tear up, but no one would know if it was because of the pain in his leg or because of the words that reached deep into his heart.
Abby stood up, and while she was dealing with the difficult situation of confronting her brother, she was momentarily paralyzed, observing how the police officers spread out around her and arrested Paul, who continued to writhe in pain, while Sarah and Alexander received medical attention.
Bastian ran to the basement, ignoring his friends order to stay in the car. He was genuinely worried about Sarah and Alexander's safety, but also about Abby's.
Seeing the scene in front of him, his heart filled with a mix of relief and concern, but beyond that, seeing her after everything and witnessing her bravery even at the risk of her own safety, he felt proud and admired her.
Soon, the worry and fear he may have felt while waiting for news about her safety dissipated when he saw her safe.
In that moment, Bastian felt a deeper connection with Abby, realizing how much he cared for her. In that same instant, as their gazes met, he realized the strength of his feelings for her.
Without wasting time, he approached Abby, who was exhausted and distant from everyone, trying to process what had just happened, and he enveloped her in his arms, showing her his support.
"Are you okay, Abby?" Bastian asked, his voice trembling slightly, a lump forming in his throat at the mere thought that something could have gone wrong and that everything could have ended differently.
Abby didn't expect to see Bastian there, especially after the tension and fear of the situation with her brother.
Nevertheless, she fell into his arms, exhausted but grateful, and nodded her head against his chest, inhaling the scent emanating from his body, unable to find the words to respond.
She looked at Bastian, her eyes met his, and in that moment, Abby knew she wasn't alone, she didn't know how, but Bastian had arrived with the police at the right moment.
"Alexander is..."
At the moment she remembered that Alexander was injured on the floor, she moved away from Bastians arms to go to her friends who were being assisted, but as soon as she took a couple of steps, her legs gave way and her vision became dark. "Abby!" Bastian panicked when he saw Abby lose her balance and caught her in his arms just as she was about to fall to the ground.
"f**k! A doctor, please! Abby has fainted." At the moment Bastian shouted for help, Julian was alarmed by remembering all the effort Abby had made while being in that condition, and ran to Bastian.
"Abby, Abby, wake up."
"We have to take her to the hospital right away, in her condition she should have peace and that's the least she's had in the last few days." Julian suggested upon seeing Abby's pale face and Bastian's heart skipped a beat.
"What are you trying to tell me?" Bastian understood perfectly what Julian was referring to, but refused to believe that could happen.
Bastian saw the doctors approach to assist Abby, when he heard the words he feared the most coming out of Julian's mouth.
"Abby could lose the baby."
