Chapter 40

Christian was frozen in his place. He couldn't comprehend if it was a trick of his mind or reality. Kai was standing there looking as shocked as him. So Kai was still alive? His heart started thudding so hard when the hope of Ava being still alive entered his head. Kai stood shocked there for a minute not knowing if to launch himself at Christian and throw punches at him repeatedly or to run fast away from there and hide Ava somewhere far far away from him.

But he hadn't had a chance to do either because Ava with Van and Candice had entered the party just then. Christian couldn't see them because he had his back to the door but when Kai's wide eyes went towards the door he also turned to look behind him as to what has shocked him much more.

And that's when he felt like he was gonna faint. He saw Ava. Ava! She stood there looking all beautiful in a red gown smiling widely. He hadn't had time to look at anything or anyone else when he saw the love of his life, his life standing there alive. The woman he was craving to have in his arms and life was standing there. His wish had come true or God had played a game, he didn't know. He just knew one thing, she was there, in front of his eyes.

A lump formed in his throat as he tried to get a check on himself. She was smiling and ushering a beautiful little girl away sweetly to go and play and when she went away she looked beside her at a man and adjoined her arms with him.

He felt his body trembling. He just wanted to go and grab her in his arms and never let go but he was feeling scared to do so. What if all this was a dream? What if just as he tries to touch her, she vanished? So he just stood there drinking in her form, looking so alive and breathtaking.

And then Ava's eyes landed on him suddenly. She stood there looking at him unblinking. Saw him standing there staring at her like she was a dream. In fact, she herself was thinking if it was a dream. But then a wide eyed Kai caught her attention and she understood that nothing was a dream at that moment.

She came to her senses when Van shook her a little to gain her attention and that's when she felt so nauseous that she jerked away from Van's arm and ran straight towards the washroom.

Van was very shocked at Ava's sudden pale face and sickness. When Ava ran towards the washroom he ran behind her to check and behind him ran Kai.

When Christian saw her running towards the washroom, he froze for a minute but then came unstuck and ran behind her. Everyone's feelings were on the edge at that moment.

Van tried to barge inside the washroom behind Ava but Kai held him just on time to stop him from entering.

"What the fuck?" Van shouted while struggling in Kai's hold.

"I need to tell you something important," Kai said while trying to control him. "It is about Ava."

Hearing Ava's name Van stopped struggling and asked angrily, "Is it much more important than Ava's sudden sickness?"

"Yes. Come with me." Replied Kai while ushering him towards the washroom's wall on the side.

Kai told Van about Christian being at the party. Van already knew about Ava and Kai's past so he quickly understood the sensitivity of the situation.

Behind their back, when they were talking, Christian barged inside the washroom.

Ava pulled her head up from the paper towel that she was patting her face on. Christian was standing there breathing heavily. His heart was thudding in his throat. "Ava!" He breathed out.

She just looked at him with an

unknown expression on her face. But inside her heart, she was breaking. Seeing him after all those years something stirred all

Se old memories and feelings that she had of him.

She didn't reply. Just kept on looking at him. Christian took a step closer. And then another. And then another When he was close enough, his hand lifted up to touch her face but that's when Ava came unstuck and grabbed his wrist before he could touch her.

At the same time, Van with Kai also entered there. He stopped just inside the door when he saw the scene in front of him.

For one second Van's heart stopped

beating at the thought of Ava accepting Christian once again in her life but the next second he tried to shrug off the thought. He wasn't going to come to any conclusion before comprehending the whole situation.

"Ava?" Van tried to catch her attention.

But Ava's whole attention was on Christian. What Van didn't know was, Ava already sensed his presence even before he entered there, he didn't need to talk to gain her attention. She jerked Christian's hand away and side stepped him to go towards Van. Christian grabbed her arm just as she took a step.

That's when she removed his hand harshly from her arm and spat, "Don't. Fucking. Touch. Me."

She walked towards Van and grabbed his hand while saying, "Let's get out of here."

At that moment Van felt like he got his life back and he complied with the demand of his wife gladly.

"Ava, wait. Please." Christian shouted.

"I don't have enough time to waste on monsters like you."

And before he could say anything else, she was already out of the door with Van holding her hand firmly beside her.
