Dr. Luna -
The Fairy’s Forbidden Mate Chapter 70
Kelsie took off in the direction Rhea told her. Cody had also transformed and was running at Kelsie's heels. The landscape blurred by in the darkness as they raced away at incredible speed. Though no one but Rhea knew what they were racing towards. Rhea what is going on? Cody asked her. He was completely confused. He noticed the dragons flying above them in the sky. It looked like no one knew what was going on.
Kelsie rode into the flower garden and Rhea hopped off of her. She watched as Kelsie and Cody went back into their human form. Followed by the dragons who landed turning into their human form.
Lee looked furious and he stomped towards Rhea who had walked to the far end of the garden. She was knelt down. Her hands were trembling now. He didn't care who was looking. She was distressed and needed him. He knelt down beside her and wrapped his arms around her. "Baby... what's wrong?"
"Lee..." She glanced upwards and the tears trickled down her face. "It would be a few hours old but tell me what you smell."
Lee took a moment and tried to focus on the different scents around him.
"Do you smell... licorice?" Rhea watched as he nodded his head to her. She closed her eyes shut. "We have a problem..."
"Shit..." Cody growled as he listened to the conversation. "How long-ago Rhea?!"
"A couple hours. I'm sorry I didn't know. I wasn't paying attention." She began to quietly sob. "I just now put it together. It just suddenly clicked. And if I could smell it... it had to have been close."
Cody roared loudly. He was the only one who understood this situation. "I'm looking around."
"Cody don't." Rhea jumped up and grabbed onto his arm.
"What in the world is going on?! I want answers now." Lee growled. There was panic going on and he had no idea what was being panicked over.
Cody turned and looked at Lee. "Rhea is in danger here. That is what is going on. And I keep leaving her side. I'm done leaving your side Rhea. I can't risk it."
Lee's eyes grew dark. "What do you mean she is in danger here?"
Cody walked over and lifted Rhea up into his chest. "Cody put me down. You're overreacting right now."
"No. I'm taking you inside. You said the upstairs is imbued with magic right? Meaning no one can enter unless you allow them, right?" Cody turned and asked Lee who nodded his head. "Good. We will talk about this there then." "Cody-" Rhea protested.
He turned to her and growled. "NO RHEA!" He was angry. That bloodthirsty demon had gotten close to his sister. Too close if she was able to recognize his scent.
Lee squeezed his fists angrily. He did not know what the hell was going on but for Cody to act like that towards Rhea it wasn't good.
He stomped over to Titus. "Do you smell the faint scent of licorice?"
"Yes, what about it?" Titus asked looking around confused.
"Track it down. I want to know where the scent came from and who it belongs to. Kill it if you find it then meet me back at my place." Lee ordered and Titus immediately complied. If Lee was demanding something it was urgent. So even though he had no idea what he was looking for, he went searching for the scent and the owner of it.
Kelsie followed at Cody's heals up the unending stairs. When they reached the top Lee was already standing there waiting for them. He moved swiftly and snatched Rhea out of her protective guardian's arms. Cody growled slightly feeling extra protective over Rhea. Lee tilted his head towards Cody with a wry smile. "Easy. She might be your sister but she is my mate. Now..." He looked at Rhea in his arms. She looked anxious and upset. Whatever was going on had her shaken. "What is going on?" He lowered her feet to the floor but kept her body flush against his.
Rhea leaned her head into Lee. "I messed up Lee. I just wasn't paying attention like I should have. I did not even realize what I was smelling until just now. My mother told me that the demon Abaddon had come after her several times. She knew it was him by his scent... he carried the scent of black licorice."
Cody growled angrily. "How in the hell did that demon get into the dragon kingdom? I thought it was protected? I thought demons couldn't enter here?" Cody snarled as he paced about angrily. Kelsie reached her hand out on his arm to calm him down. She finally learned what was going on and understood why he was so upset.
"Let's see what Titus finds out. I sent him after the scent. Maybe a child was just eating candy near there?" Lee rubbed onto Rhea's arm. "Rhea... you didn't mess up. Okay? And hell woman. The next time you tell me exactly everything that is going on before you race across the countryside. Otherwise, I am snatching you up and putting you up in a tower that has no way down."
"That's not a bad idea... got a tower like that around?" Cody smirked and Lee chuckled. With some one like Rhea, it would be easier to lock her up to keep her out of trouble.
"I'm sorry. I just felt so flustered. I couldn't believe I missed that. I was just preoccupied about today and wasn't thinking fully." Rhea looked up to Lee with sad eyes. She felt like she really messed up.
"Baby... it's okay. You were understandably preoccupied. Trust me... I was too." Lee cupped her cheeks in his hands and leaned forward pressing himself into her lips. Her lips felt cold, but his heat instantly warmed them. He felt a small shiver run over her. He wasn't sure if it was from being cold, scared, or the effect he was having on her. He pulled away and wrapped her body tightly into his. "I'm not going to let anything happen to you." He looked up at Cody as he said this. His eyes were promising that as well. Let anyone try to touch what is his.
A shadow hovered over the large opening and a sizable dragon flew inside. As his feet landed, he seamlessly shifted into his human form.
Titus walked up to Lee and sighed with his hands out. "I couldn't follow the scent. It vanished. It came up the far cliff side and also disappeared into that direction. But the scent vanished where our border reaches. It was like the scent only existed on the border of the kingdom. What is going on?"
Lee furrowed his brows down. This wasn't good news. This meant that somehow the demon found a way to enter into the West Dragon kingdom. He couldn't have done this alone. There was magic involved here as well. He looked up to Titus. "We have a big problem going on here." Lee sighed and explained to Titus about Abaddon and his scent. "How could he have gotten through the barrier though..."
Titus was livid. He was beyond outraged. A foul demon dared to come into his kingdom and it was after Rhea. His eyes twitched in anger and he scowled in agitation. "How indeed... even with someone on the inside helping him he couldn't get through the barrier. And then for his scent to disappear after leaving our kingdom.... Wait a minute." Titus looked up to Lee. "What if he didn't walk through the barrier. What if he transported inside of it. That would explain why his scent wasn't past the barrier because he didn't walk out to the other side. He transported to another location."
Lee nodded his head. This seemed very plausible.
"We should be able to adjust the barrier accordingly. I will speak with gramps and have him work on it. This shouldn't be able to happen again." Titus shook his head and frowned. "Rhea... are you okay?" She was in his kingdom under his protection. She shouldn't have to be worrying.
"I'm okay. Just upset with myself for not catching it earlier." Rhea couldn't believe she let it slide. She should have been paying better attention. Maybe if she had her wolf and her heightened senses it wouldn't have happened. She only had her regular human smelling. He must have been close. She was angry. She could have ended this with him then if she would have just realized it. She wasn't afraid of him being there. She was upset and angry with herself. To the point of tears. This was all her fault... that Abaddon was still waltzing around instead of buried eight feet under. To hell with burying him. She would have burned his existence away.
"Rhea. You shouldn't have had to catch it earlier. It shouldn't have ever happened. Somehow he found a loophole. It won't happen again. I don't want you to be worried." Titus looked into Rhea's sapphire eyes trying to reassure her he was surprised by the loud scoff she let out.
They all thought she was afraid? She was trembling with anger. She wasn't afraid of Abaddon. Was he sick and creepy? Sure. But she didn't fear him. "I'm not worried." Rhea took a step away from Lee and looked up at him. "I'm not afraid." She looked at Cody. "I'm angry." Kelsie smirked as she watched Rhea. She was proud of her. She was a kick a*s girl. She wasn't the girl waiting to be rescued.
Rhea was tough. It wasn't that she was impervious to fear... it was just that she also had a strong sense of protecting. "I can't believe I missed my chance. He was so close. I could have ended this today had I been paying attention. I messed up and I am angry." Lee shot a hand out and wrapped it around Rhea's wrist. "It sounds like you are saying you would have fought the demon right then had you noticed..." Lee growled not amused with what he was hearing.
"That's exactly what I am saying." Rhea snapped up at him.
"See?! Trouble. Trouble trouble trouble. Damn it Rhea. Lock her up Levi." Cody snarled and shook his head angrily. His sister was going to get herself killed.
"That is a problem for me Rhea. A real problem. I won't have you putting yourself at risk. What am I supposed to do with you? Do I really need to lock you up?" Lee's voice was crisp and low. A deadly tone seeping into his voice. "It's okay for everyone else though? It is okay for everyone else to put themselves at risk but me... Why? That way of thinking isn't fair." She shot out glaring an angry look towards Cody as well.
"Rhea..." Titus' said very calmly. "I have no doubt that you are tough. I am sure you would be a tough opponent. The thing is... your it. There is only you. If something happens to you then the fairies are left without an heir." "What if something happens to you?" Rhea spat back bitterly.
Titus smiled. "Then I have family who would be next in line to take over. Reese would take over if something happened before I could produce an heir. Who would take over for you, Rhea?" Titus looked at her pointedly as he watched her tense slightly. Honestly, it really didn't matter if there were others to replace her position because no one could replace her. She was important to him... she was important to all of them.
