Dr. Luna -
Chapter 26
"Why is there wolfsbane in his system?" Lilly's voice was terse as she glanced up at the men gathered around.
"It wasn't supposed to be that much... it was just supposed to burn a bit. It's just part of the hazing we do to new members. We have always done it. I don't know why his body is being so different about it." One of the pack warriors spoke up, he looked to be the one who was in charge of leading the warriors during their exercises. "You gave him wolfsbane... on purpose?" Lilly wanted to make sure she heard him correctly. The man nodded and Lilly clenched her jaw.
"It's poison! Why would you intentionally give this? Are you kidding me? A part of hazing? What is this a college fraternity?" Lilly was fuming. As a doctor she could not condone such reckless behavior.
"Easy Lilly. We have always done it. It is just a bit of sport." Tyler shrugged. It was a game they always played with the new members and new warriors.
"You not only condone this but encourage this?" Lilly could feel a blood vessel ready to pop.
"Usually no one gets injured, so it isn't a problem them not being able to heal for a bit. It just burns a bit, and we all have a good laugh." Tyler leaned back on his heals and looked at Lilly with amusement. She was angry. Man was she attractive when she was angry. "I can see how this is funny." Lilly pointed to the man lying on the ground writhing in pain. "I can barely contain my laughter."
"Lilly, calm down." Tyler thought her reaction was cute. The man would be fine, it was just a bit of hazing, simple werewolf fun.
Lilly looked down at the young man's face. His eyes were clenched shut and his face had squinted tight in pain. How is this situation funny? They have always done this? So, because it happened to them, they want it to happen to someone else. It was their rite of passage. It was childish and pathetic.
Lilly took her hand and gently rubbed the young man's forehead. He looked to be around her age and was an attractive young man, though he had seen better days. He seemed to relax under her touch and Lilly leaned down to talk to him. "It's going to be okay. Try to relax the best you can, I'm going to take care of you, you will be just fine." Lilly's light voice was calming, and she kept her hand on his forehead to continue to soothe him.
Tyler could not help the jealousy that was now rising inside of him. He did not like her touching a stranger like that and felt irritated at her trying to soothe him. He did not say anything, but his dark glare was not unnoticed by his pack, who began to get uncomfortable. They could sense the rising anger in their Alpha and their wolves were antsy because of it.
"We need to get him back. You do have an infirmary here, right? Let's get him there so I can reposition his arm. Then I will work on speeding up getting the wolfsbane out of his system. Also, no more of these hazing practices until after your Alpha and I have time to discuss it." Lilly's meaning was clear and there were a few interesting looks among the pack. If they were allowed to continue to haze, they would know that their Alpha won the argument. However, if not, they would know that their Luna had won. Tyler's eyes flickered as he stood silently watching Lilly.
Kade pointed at a few men to help carry the injured one to the infirmary. The man grunted as he was lifted and carried, his face pale with pain. Lilly followed closely, making sure he was not being mishandled. They finally reached a small building that looked like it had seen better days. It was a bit neglected and needed a fresh coat of paint. Lilly followed the men inside where an older woman was sitting at a desk.
The older woman was Dottie. She was the mid-wife and in charge of inoculations for the pack. Her eyes widened at the sight of them entering the infirmary. Clearly, no one injured ever came there. She got up and went and opened the door to a room that had a bed inside.
The men eased the man down and then left, except for Kade. Tyler had slowly made his way inside; his agitation was growing as he watched Lilly with the young man. Lilly got down to business. She walked up to the man and felt around his arm so she could feel what she needed to do.
"Kade, please hold him steady for me. I am going to reset his arm now. What is his name?" Lilly asked as she walked up near the man's head. "It is Lonnie."
"Lonnie, I have to reposition your arm. This is going to hurt, but it will only take a moment. Please bear with me." Lilly saw his slight nod and then looked at Kade to make sure he was ready as well. She brought forth her wolf strength and with a quick jerk, it was done. Lonnie yelled out in pain and Kade held him down firmly.
"There, that's the worst part. You're going to be okay." Lilly soothed his forehead gently. How was this all in good fun? This was a childish inappropriate game to play. She turned around and began to dig through one of the cabinets. This place was a poor excuse for an infirmary.
"This place needs restocked. It is practically bare." Lilly found the vial she was looking for and clicked her tongue.
"Make a list of what is needed, and I'll make sure it is restocked." Tyler said quietly.
Lilly looked at him peculiarly for a second before redirecting her attention to Lonnie. Tyler's demeanor was off. What did he have to be mad over? She administered a shot and then leaned close to Lonnie's face.
"That will reverse the effects soon. You should be able to heal in about half an hour. Please just stay here and rest until then." The man nodded and Lilly directed her gaze to Dottie. "He shouldn't need anything, but if you could just keep an eye on him and call me if you need me, I would appreciate it."
"Yes, of course, Luna." Dottie pulled up a chair so that she could sit near his side. Normally, Lilly would have stayed with him, but she knew she still had to get ready for the ceremony.
The walk back to the pack house was quiet. Tyler was trying to control his irritation and was quietly brooding to himself. He was like a jealous lovesick puppy and he was annoyed at his lack of control over his emotions. Kade was hoping to remain invisible in hopes to avoid any backlash. Lilly, on the other hand was quietly listening. Something was calling to her. It was like the time after she had fought with the rogues. A quiet jingle was heard on the breeze. No, it wasn't just a jingle.
Lilly stopped and turned. It was singing. A song blew in on the breeze and embraced Lilly. Her chest felt warm. Her fingers began to tingle. Then suddenly it stopped. Everything became quiet. It was like a window had been shut. "Lilly?" Kade turned to see she was no longer following them. Tyler also paused and turned to look at her.
She exhaled the breath she had been holding. She had felt like something was starting to happen. Something was building up inside of her and she felt like her shell was barely containing whatever wanted to come out. She turned and looked at Kade and smiled. "I'm coming." Whatever it was, it was gone, so no need to mention anything. She skipped past the two men and entered into the pack house.
Lilly entered her room to find an appropriate outfit to wear for the ceremony. She pulled out a flowered sundress that came to just above the knees. It would be perfect to wear.
Tyler was leaning in the doorway watching her as she picked out her dress. He was still brooding and thinking about earlier. He knew she was a doctor, but he had issue with how intimate her touches were. Fixing his shoulder was one thing, but rubbing his forehead was another. He did not want her touching anyone but him. His jealousy was surging through him again. He finally decided he couldn't just let it go and walked up to her as she spun around.
He leaned in and kissed her deeply. He needed to feel her lips on his again. He was like a child who had to share his mother with another kid. He wanted to soothe himself in her touch, a touch that was meant only for him.
Lilly pulled back from his wonderful intoxicating lips. There was something she wanted to talk about.
"We need to talk about the hazing... it is really stupid. Someone could end up seriously hurt. I am surprised no one has yet, not one of the smartest games to play." Lilly did not realize it, but she just poked the bear. She thought this was the logical conclusion, however, she watched as his eyes grew dark when she talked about it.
"Lilly, we are werewolves, not humans, not witches, or delicate fairies." Tyler really didn't care about the hazing issue, but his jealousy made him more combative.
Oh no he didn't! Lilly fumed as his voice mocked the word fairies.
"We fight, we spar, we are rough and what we do for fun reflects that. We break bones and fight among each other. This is who we are. So, we play a prank on new warriors? It's a rough prank because that is what we are! We are rough! I don't hold my warrior's hands; they are not children. We have the reputation of being a tough pack for a reason!" Tyler's condescending voice pierced at Lilly. What had she done to deserve this attitude? All because she thought it a dangerous and immature prank that shouldn't be practiced? Lilly stared at him with her eyes raised in irritation. She was his mate, not just another pack member for him to talk down to. She was also the daughter of an Alpha and his blood ran through her veins. This gave her a more dominant attitude that helped her rise to the occasion. How dare he mock fairies! He knew nothing about them (neither did she) but Cedric had made it clear that some fairies were more than a force to be reckoned with.
How could he talk to her like this after the night they had just spent together? She had no idea where this attitude was coming from, all because of the hazing issue? Maybe with him being an Alpha and her Alpha blood they would always end up fighting, Two dominant personalities colliding together. In either case, she was not one who would just roll over because her Alpha... her mate commanded it. If he was going to swing his sword she was going to swing back.
