Even though Edith was drunk, and she probably couldn’t understand what Carlos was saying at all, he still couldn’t help. himself from telling her all that. He didn’t want to see her get drunk and upset over another man.

“When can she rid her heart of the shadows of other people and have space for me?” Carlos wondered.

Upon hearing this, Edith couldn’t help but praise him, “Uncle Carlos, you’re such a great man. All the men out there should think like you and not hurt their women. Why am I so unlucky? The man I’ve loved for so many years fell in love with me and Vanessa at the same time. He doesn’t even understand himself, and he needs me to remind him about it. It’s ridiculous,

She was laughing, but tears soon trickled down her cheeks. The sight of her now upset him very much.

He stretched out his hand and held her cheek, wiping away her tears.

She could feel his touch, but she was not repelled by it. Perhaps alcohol made her braver because she even grabbed his hand and rubbed her face against it.

“Uncle Carlos, your hand is so cold. It feels so nice to hold them!”

“Edith, tell me honestly. When can you forget about him and accept me here?”

His other hand was free, and he used his fingertip to poke at her chest, where the heart was situated to make his point.

Edith was slightly stunned. Looking down, she said, “Uncle Carlos, what do you mean by that?“/

“When will you forget about Johann? I want to have a good start with you.”

He wanted to start a new chapter in life with her as his wife, and loved her with all his heart.

Edith chuckled at his words. Waving her hand, she said, “Uncle Carlos, stop fooling around with me. I’ve already moved on from Johann long ago. He’s just a scumbag, so let’s just leave him to be with Vanessa. I don’t care about that. I don’t…”

Seeing how decisive and determined Edith was, Carlos frowned uncontrollably. “Why are you still so upset over him then?”

“I’m not upset over him. I’m just sad for myself! If you were in my shoes, wouldn’t you feel sad for wasting five years of your life on a jerk? We were childhood sweethearts. We started dating in junior year of high school, and we’ve had four years of a long–distance relationship. Each day, I forced myself to work hard and to be as ambitious as I could because I wanted to be the best wife for him. Now, I’ve become a tough lady, but the man of my dreams became a jerk and married my cousin. What would you feel if you were in my position? Wouldn’t you feel sad? Wouldn’t you be in pain?

“T… I… I feel like I’ve wasted so much time in my life. I feel terrible about it because I could’ve spent them on other matters which were more important to me!” Pouting, Edith elaborated in grievance. She clutched her chest, looking to be in a lot of pain from heartache.

Although she sounded miserable, Carlos was secretly delighted instead of pitying her.

It turned out that she was crying for herself instead of over another man.

That was good news to him.

Carlos said, “Since you’ve told me so much, I’ll tell you a secret too. How about that?*

Edith’s eyes popped in surprise. “Is it your secret? Tell me about it!”

With that, she leaned closer to Carlos enthusiastically.
