Falling For My Playboy Boss -
Chapter 46
Cora's POV
The meetings went well, and Marc took me to where we were supposed to have lunch and even had lunch with me. Chloe kept Collin tied up the whole day. I saw Collin looking for me and I waved at him from my chair against the wall, but if he had wanted or needed me, he could have said something to Chloe and had her get out of my chair. I kept having to change legs I was using for my "table" because she had taken my chair and I was having a hard time keeping up with the notes I was taking. She keeps touching Collin and making a production out of crossing her legs from one side to the other to keep his attention and it was starting to piss me off.
I was trying to be patient, but everyone there could see what she was doing, and some were even watching their interaction, instead of paying attention to what was going on from the podium. I just kept taking notes as I could see Collin talking and laughing with Chloe, and not taking notes himself. I am thinking about what I need to do tomorrow for the "fun" day of site seeing. I am going to go to bed early, so I can go get some souvenirs for my friends and family while I am here. I think I would like to get a nice perfume for myself to remind myself of this trip. Who knows when I will be back? I certainly hope that this is the last visit I have to see and deal with Chloe, ever again. She is very unprofessional, and it is starting to get uncomfortable for a lot of us watching the show. She is really offering herself to him, and it looks like he is going to accept. I made a mental note to see if Marc could help me call around and see if there were any available rooms for the next two nights. I really, really, do not want to be in the apartment if Chloe is going to be there. I can totally see that that would be very uncomfortable for me being the third wheel. I went ahead and wrote a note out and passed it off to Marc, so I didn't forget to ask him about helping me when I noticed that Collin was looking at me and apparently angry that I was passing a note and not taking notes for him. That is rich, coming from him when he hasn't been taking notes for the last 2 hours. I just looked right back at him and then rolled my eyes, as I recrossed my legs in the other direction and started writing again. He has no right to act like I am not doing my job when I have been doing it the whole time. I have the guy's number who is supposed to help me with my hair and makeup, so if I have to give him my new address it will be OK. I continue to take notes, swapping my legs from one side to the other, and notice that Marc is now checking out my legs, because with all the shifting and having to write on them by using my legs as my work surface, my skirt has worked its way up and my thighs are clearly visible. It also doesn't seem like he, or any of the other men in the room who are now noticing it, are having a problem or issue with it either. In fact, I have now had about 10 men who have sent me a wink as soon as our eyes have met. There is only one person who seems like he has an issue with it, and he now looks mad, and Chloe is also looking mad that her attention from Collin has been taken away from her.
I get up from my chair and go to go use the restroom during the next break. When I came out of the stall, I saw Chloe standing at the sink, apparently waiting for me. "You are showing a lot of leg out there, you need to be more professional" Chloe tells me.
"Well, if you hadn't taken my seat away from me, I would have a table to put my notebook on my legs while I take notes for Collin," I told her as I washed my hands.
"Well, I got there first, so that is actually your problem. Try to keep your fat little frame covered, no one out there wants to see it", Chloe said before walking out of the restroom.
I have got to stop going to the bathroom where these mean girls are hanging out I thought to myself and just shook my head, dried my hands, and exited the restroom. Collin was waiting just outside the restroom, and he said, "Why is your dress riding up like that?" "What is there some kind of new law I am breaking here, first Chloe, and now you? I mean, she took my seat at the table, and I was struggling to use my leg to brace my notebook to write on it. I am doing my best. I would appreciate some support, not an attack", I told him.
"I didn't realize that she took your seat. I will look into it" Collin said.
"Don't bother, we have 2 hours left and I am ready to leave. She has been sitting there all day. I won't take her happiness away from her. I will manage, thank you" I said as I turned and walked away. I headed back to my seat and saw Marc standing there with another man, who had his back to me.
"Cora, I wanted to introduce you to my boss, Gabriel Dubois. Gabriel, this is Cora", Marc told me.
I looked up into a very handsome face, black hair, and beautiful blue eyes that had both light and dark elements of blue in them, a slim nose, and a slightly thin mouth, with a strong jaw and a swimmer's body. Slim and strong, but not bulky. He smiles down at me with straight white teeth, and he must be about 6'4" tall because he is at least 6 inches taller than me.
"Cora, I have heard a lot of good things about you. I had reached out to Jerry about the sharp rise in revenue that you had at Lauder Financial, and he had mentioned your name being the reason that your company had the increase. I would love to get to sit down with you and discuss how you came up with it and get a little insight into how your mind works to solve these types of problems. It is truly a gift, and I was also going to ask how you ended up as a PA, instead of working for Jerry, he was kind of vague about it", Gabriel tells me as he lifts my hand to kiss the back of it. I smiled up at him and said, "It would be my pleasure to talk to you about it, but it truly isn't a long story. I have an MBA and I was going in for an interview with Jerry. I was there early and ended up speaking with Catherine Bradford, who ended up poaching me from under Jerry. I still had my Harvard debt to pay down, Catherine really wanted to retire, and it paid more to work for Collin. My father had lost his job during his battle with cancer, and he has medical debts. I am paying the house payments and paying for my father's medical bills at the same time, so the extra money was beneficial to me to take the job. But being an Account Manager is where my true love is, and I believe that I need to just do what Jerry asked and go ahead and train my replacement and then go work for Jerry, so this may be the last trip here that you get to see me", I told them, and I saw Gabriel frown.
"You are doing a lot for such a young person, that seems like a huge weight on anyone, but you took it on gladly for your parents. That is truly commendable. I look forward to speaking with you tomorrow at the awards banquet", Gabriel tells me, and then goes back to his seat at the table.
"Looks like you have a new fan", Marc teases me.
"Who?" I ask.
"Gabriel", Marc answers and nods over to where Gabriel is sitting and I see him looking directly over at me and then winking at me.
"Gabriel doesn't usually show a lot of interest in us PA's, but when he asked who you were when the break started and I told him, he was surprised because he had wanted to get to speak to you. I believe that he was intrigued about you because you are so attractive", Marc said, and then he blushed a little.
"I am sorry, Cora. I didn't mean to say that. I am sorry if I made you uncomfortable", Marc tells me, and I can see that he was getting upset at the thought of having offended me.
I put my hand on top of his and told him, "You did not offend me, I think that it is a nice compliment and I appreciate it". I take my hand back and settle back into my seat and cross my legs again to use it as a brace to write on when I see a shadow come over me and I look up to see who is standing there. It is Collin.
"Please come sit at the table with me, Chloe was not supposed to be sitting next to me, you were, and I need you to be able to take the proper notes for me on this meeting," Collin tells me and then turns and walks back to the table where I see my chair is now empty.
"I will see you later Marc. I put my cell number on the paper I gave you. If you come up with any hotels that have a vacancy let me know. I don't want to be at the apartment staying with Collin, especially if Chloe is going to be making house calls", I told him and then took my stuff over to the table to sit next to Collin. The last two hours went quickly, and it was much easier to take notes on a table that I could use to write them on. I got a text from an unknown number, and it was Marc. He said he had a secretary call around, but all the hotels are booked as there are several things going on in Paris this weekend. I texted him back a thank you. I guess I have to stay in the apartment after all. I guess I can try to sleep in earbuds, if I need to, in case Chloe is loud too.
