Find me in your labyrinth (Stella and Jonathan) -
Chapter 2202
Gabriel put away his phone just as the interrogating officer walked in.
The officer frowned at him and demanded his phone before asking in a cold voice, "Name?"
Another officer was seated at a computer, ready to pull up the man's identity records.
Gabriel leaned back in his chair, calmly stating, "Gabriel Carnes."
As the officer typed the name into the system, his record came up blank. He frowned, suspecting a typo, when suddenly a warning box popped up on the screen. After entering a password, information about Gabriel Carnes began to appear, though not in its entirety-much of it was restricted due to confidentiality.
Even the limited information on display was enough to make the records officer's eyes widen. He stood up abruptly.
The other officer, curious, glanced over, and his stern expression slowly dissolved into one of respect as he, too, stood up and gave Gabriel the highest form of salute. "Please, wait a moment!"
Both officers looked nervously at Gabriel as they backed out of the room.
Sylvia sat in her office, constantly glancing at the clock.
The wait felt excruciatingly long.
Just as she was about to lose patience, she heard a knock on the door.
She immediately stood and walked briskly to open it.
There stood Gabriel, as impeccable in appearance as when he had left that morning, his demeanor distinguished and assertive.
Tears welled up in Sylvia's eyes as she embraced him.
Gabriel gently caressed her face, saying quietly, "I'm alright."
Sylvia nodded in his embrace, whispering, "I know, but I'm just so angry."
He had never been humiliated like this before, manipulated by nobodies and treated like a suspect.
"It's nothing!" Gabriel brushed it off.
Employees passing by the office stared in astonishment at their boss and Mr. Carnes embracing, their eyes wide.
What a rapid development!
Just the day before, he was waiting outside the office, and now here they were, in an embrace!
And they say he's not the boyfriend?
Noticing the onlookers, Gabriel led Sylvia inside and closed the door behind them.
He walked her to the couch and sat down, kissing her firmly. When he noticed she wasn't as combative as usual, he stopped and asked, "Were you frightened?" Sylvia shook her head, wrapping her arms tightly around him, burying herself in his embrace.
Gabriel assured, "This isn't your fault, don't overthink it."
Sylvia closed her eyes, murmuring, "This isn't over!"
That afternoon, as Baron was expecting Sylvia to come to him for help, he got a call, "Mr. Barlow, Gabriel's been released."
"What?" Baron sat up from the couch, frowning, "How did they release him?"
"I don't know, the Chief of Police showed up, and I thought it was getting serious. But then, just a bit later, he left in the Chief's car, driven by the Chief himself." Baron was puzzled. The Chief of Police personally driving Gabriel home?
Who exactly was Gabriel?
"Alright, I got it!"
Baron hung up, his eyes flickering with thought. He had the Chief's number and immediately dialed.
"Ken, I heard about a brawl today involving a guy named Gabriel. I know him. How is he doing?" Baron asked, trying to sound casual.
