First Love Of The Alpha -
Chapter 50
Landyns POV
After breakfast, we headed out back to head to
Esme cottage. Marvin explained there was a road that would get us there, but it was a two hour car ride versus if we just teleported or went in wolf form, it would only be an hour.
We settled on wolf form. Well, more like Maureen insisted on riding on my back. My wolf, Ryder, seemed to like her even though he was oddly quiet about me kissing her. I felt like he knew something that I didn’t.
Usually, I would get snarky comments about us being intimemt with any girl, really. Why I wasn’t one to show much affection or be in a relationship.
Maureen excused herself to run and grab a sweatshirt because of the longer run. As soon as she snapped her fingers and escaped into the air. Conner was in my face.
“You going to tell me what that was about? I’ve never seen you even show interest in a girl before, let alone k**s one and like that.”
Louise nodded. “It was pretty steamy.”
“I’m honestly not sure. I’ve just been feeling this overbearing need that I need to protect her. Yeah, I’m attracted to her, but I’m not sure to what extent. I wasn’t expecting a k**s to feel like that.”
Maureen snapped back in front of us, and the conversation was dropped. She had put on a bright pink zip-up hooded sweatshirt. “Ready!”
Conner seemed slightly uneasy. “Are you sure this witch isn’t going to kill us as soon as she sees us?”
Maureen shook her head. “I doubt it. She will sense another witch present. If she’s working with the rogues, she probably won’t be all that surprised to see us. I’m honestly kind of surprised no one has brought this up to the coven leader before now.”
Louise seemed confused. “He didn’t seem to care when we brought it up yesterday. “
“He does. He’s just trusting me to take care of it. It’s not like I’m some weak witch. My family meant something to this pack once. My dad was a very respected man.”
We all walked to the tree line before slipping behind trees to shift. Maureen brought a bag so we didn’t have to carry our clothes in our mouths.
Once, she gathered all the clothing she placed, the backpack on, and climbed on to me. She laid her whole body against me. Her hands grabbed a good chunk of my fur for support.
She guided us through the woods. It was a little windy today, and I could tell Maureen was getting cold. I felt her body press more and more into me using the heat that was radiating off my body for warmth.
I should have insisted that she put on a winter coat. We were getting to the end of October now.
We came up on a clearing, and Maureen patted my back. “This is it.”
We shifted, and Maureen tossed us our clothes. When I came out from behind a large bush, she rubbed her arms for warmth.
I sighed. “I should have insisted on getting you a coat.”
“It’s okay if I really wanted one. I could just teleport and get one. I just didn’t want Esme to sense you guys without me here. A witch can do damage even in just a few minutes of me being gone. I didn’t want to take a chance.”
We walked out of the tree line to see about thirty cottages. Mostly looking all the same. I look down at Maureen. “How do we know which one is hers? There not all going go come out of there homes when they sense us will they?”
“I’m not sure. But let’s hope not. Besides, I’m more powerful than all of them. I don’t think they will do anything.”
“Well, okay then.” Didn’t help much. Me and my wolf were still on edge, being prepared for any possibilities. We were clearly outnumbered, and the alpha in me didn’t like the statistics. But i knew we couldn’t have brought more people. This was too much of a secret.”
Maureen pointed to the cottage with maroon shutters and mums all along the outside. It was well kept and looked clean, unlike a lot of the other cottages.
She knocked on the door, and a petite older lady answered the door. Her long grey hair was down to her waist. It looked raggedy like it hadn’t been brushed in months.
She didn’t look surprised to see us. “I’ve been wondering when I would see you wolves. I’m honestly surprised the princess herself didn’t come.”
I looked utterly confused. “How did you know we would be coming?”
“Boy, I’ve been working with the devil himself. I know what he’s done, I know the plans he has for your pack members and the princess. Hell, I’ve even had to do things I’m not proud of. I knew you would come for me.”
“We’ve come to ask you not to make those potions and to change sides and help us. If you know what he’s got planned, then you know we have to stop him and anyone that gets in our way.”
“That better not have been a threat. I don’t think you would be stupid enough to threaten a witch in her own coven. Besides, even if i wanted to, I can’t help you. My fate is set for me.”
“What’s he paying you, or what threat is he holding over your head?”
“That’s really not any of your concern mutt.”
I growled at her. She was being even more difficult than I thought she would be.
Maureen put her hand on my chest. She was trying to calm me and my wolf down.
Esme looked at us amused. “So a witch and a wolf. Now, that’s not something you see every day. “
Maureen took her hand off me quickly and blushed. She instantly replied with, “It’s not like that.” Which pulled at the strings of my heart.
“Young witch, I don’t have a problem with it. I was just clearly stating you don’t see it every day. My daughter was mated to a wolf.”
Hmm, I wonder if maybe that’s what leverage the rogue king has on her.
“My grandson is a half breed. He can shift into a wolf and has the powers of a warlock.”
I now figured out what had on her. I noticed she talked about her daughter in a past tense but talked about her grandson like he was still around.
I didn’t waste any time and just bluntly asked her. “He has your grandson, doesn’t he?”
“Yes, so you see why I can’t help you. He’s all I got, and I’m all he has. I can’t lose him.”
“How long?”
“Years now. He’s not strong with his powers. I’m guessing because he’s a half breed. That’s why they tried to get Maureens’ brother to join and then her uncle. I’m getting weak with age, and they know I won’t be any help much longer.”
I nodded, understanding what they were trying to do.”Did you give our Luna the vile of posion?”
“Yes, I’ve been teleporting into your pack for some time now.”
“Did you know she was going to use it to murder her own son?”
“I don’t ask what they plan on doing with the stuff I make. I’m not evil. I’m just protecting my grandson. I hope you can understand that. If I had to choose between my family and a pack of wolves, I had to choose my family. You can’t fault me for that. You would do the same. Isn’t that what you’re doing for the princess? I know you care for her.”
Maureen gave me a questioning look. She knows Lily and Myles are mated, but I could tell she was trying to figure out how i fit into all of it.
“Yeah, I do. I love her. She’s my family, and you’re right. I would do anything to protect her, and that does include killing if I have to.”
“I can tell you’re a protecter. They used to call those guardians, but I’m not sure if thats still the term they are using. I haven’t met one since i was young.”
“What does that mean?”
“You’ll find out soon enough.”
“But if that’s all you guys wanted, I am do to check in with the rogue king, and I can’t be smelling like other wolves.” She opened the door gesturing for us to leave.
I put my hands up. “What if we can get your grandson out. I’m sure he’s with Lily’s dad, is he not?”
“Yes, but how could you possibly get him out? I know just getting one out will be nearly impossible, and the prince will be the priority.” I’m I’m stupid.”
“I promise they will be able to get him out.”
“You guys have a plan, don’t you? So you know more than what they realize?”
I just nodded, not wanting to give away my secret. I’ve tried not to use it the last few days. But right now, I’m struggling. I know this witch would figure me out if I say anything that’s in her thoughts.
“I’m sorry I can’t help you.”
I broke down and just opened the block. That’s when I heard my worst fear and decided to just confront her about it.”You already gave them the potions, didn’t you?”
“Yes, so now you see why i wouldn’t be able to help you guys even if I wanted to take you up on your offer. It’s too late.
Maureem seemed flustered. It was weird to see her getting worked up over protecting people she’s never even met.
Her eyebrows scrunched together. “The princess, she’s pregnant. you’re breaking a family up. Taking away from them what was taken from you. I remember the story from my mom. Your daughter was murdered by the packs beta that she joined to be with her beloved. The alpha graciously gave you your grandson as an apology, but mostly to protect him.”
Esme seemed startled that Maureen brought that up in front of us all. “Yes, so you know that I’ve failed him, and I’ve failed my daughter. “
“Then help us. Do it for your grandson. Do it for your daughter. I’m sure there’s a potion or spell that’s out there that can stop this, right?”
Esme closed the door that she still had been holding open and sat in an old wooden rocking chair.
“I suppose we could make a potion that would make everyone immune to the others. But it would take three days and the both of us to make something so strong. You know we don’t have much time. “
I started to feel hopeful. Maybe this trip was actually worth it. “Okay, but would you be willing to do it in exchange for trying to rescue your grandson?”
“His name is Ace, but you got yourself a deal. But your Luna has some tricks up her sleeves that just got planned out yesterday.”
She definitely had all of our attention. “She’s moving charles, her daughter, my grandson, and a few other prisoners to another location. Till after the battle for extra protection in case you guys get any ideas to go to their camp.”
I tried not to show the panic on my face that I was feeling. “Where are the being moved to?”
“Luna Meghans old pack. There’s a shelter on the outerskirts of neon moon pack. If you guys attack, you’ll potentially be coming across as an attack on the pack themselves. Luna said her dad would have no idea that they would be kept there. They won’t be heavily guarded, though. She said she couldn’t sneak that many people in unnoticed. “
I got to give her credit. She’s smarter than I thought. I would never have thought to go looking there. It’s so close to the palace that it should make things a lot easier for Lily’s mom and grandparents.
I saw Conner sit on the very tiny couch. He rubbed his hands into his face. “This is getting crazier and crazier every day.”
Maureen rubbed her hand on my back. “I’ll talk to Marvin. I’m sure he’ll let you guys stay a few more days. I’m more than willing to help make the potions. But won’t everyone have to drink them before the attack?”
Esme nodded. ” Yes, and there’s no way we can make enough for every pack member. “
I shrugged my shoulders, understanding its short notice, I was just hoping to protect everyone. “As long as there’s enough for the people there actually targeting and the main people protecting them, I think we should be okay. “
Conner nodded. ” I agree, I don’t see them using a potion on a random pack member they would run out to quickly.”
“Okay, now that we have some idea of a plan, we really need to head back at. I need to call Ben and Myles and let the rest of the group know.”
Esme gave a small smile. “Yes, you won’t be able to call here. There’s no service. “
We all thanked her and agreed to come back here again tomorrow after breakfast to get started on the potions. She was skeptical of having us around while her and Maureen worked, but I still couldn’t shake this feeling of urgency to protect Maureen and wanted to go with her.”
We shifted and headed back toward the coven. Maureen just teleported so she could talk to Marvin before we got there. It least gave me a chance to talk to Conner through mindlink without being so obvious.
“What do you think Esme met about being a guardian? I’ve never heard of anything about that before today.”
“I’ve heard something, but i can’t remember from where. I always thought it was some sort of myth. Maybe when we get back, we can do some research. “
“Yeah, I guess I don’t have much of another choice. I doubt Esme will tell us anything while we’re here.”
“Probably not. It’s funny how she caught onto something going on with you and Marureen.”
“She made it clear that it’s not anything, and truthfully, I’m not sure if it is something either.”
I guess I came off a little snippy because Conner instantly apologized. “Sorry, man, I wasn’t trying to upset you.”
“It’s okay. Let’s just get back to the coven so I can call Myles.”
We ran the rest of the way in silence, getting lost in my own thoughts.
We got to the coven faster than expected. I was pushing Ryder hard trying to burn off some steam.
We got to the edge of the tree line when I realized Maureen was carrying our clothes in her bag. s**t I was really hoping we wouldn’t have to walk up the house nude. I know witches aren’t comfortable with nudity like us.
I caught maureens’ bag out of the corner of my eye hanging from a branch. I was beyond relieved that she did that.
I shifted, and I tossed Conner and Louise there clothes. I pulled out my phone and called Myles immediately.
The phone ran only once. He must have been waiting by the phone for my call.
“Landyn, you guys okay? You headed home yet. Lily is stressing out and worrying about you.”
“Sorry man, tell her we’re okay and we all miss her. I’m actually calling to let you know we’re actually going to stay a couple of days. Esme and Maureen are going to make a potion that we will all take that will make us immune to the others. This means we won’t be back till the day before Lily’s party and attack.”
“Can we trust her, though?”
“Yes, I think we can. I need Lily to reach out to her mom. They are holding her grandson capative. That’s why she’s been helping them all these years.”
“I’m sure they wouldn’t mind adding another person there already going to be taking all their prisoners that aren’t rogues.”
“Well, this is where it gets tricky. Apparently, last night, Luna made plans to move Lily’s dad, Maddy, and Esme grandson to a new location.”
I could hear his voice suddenly get nervous. “Okay, where?”
“The outerskirts of the neon moon pack.”
“You got to be shitting me? Raya and Lunas old pack? Does Lunas dad know what she’s doing?”
“No, Esme said it won’t be highly guarded because she can’t sneak that many people on to her old pack grounds. But I think this will make it a hell of a lot easier to get them. But somehow, they would have to stay undetected by the neon moon pack so they don’t think they are attacking them. I would of suggest have the wolf king talk to the alpha, but sense it’s Lunas dad. I’m not sure how far he would go to protect her.”
“Okay, Lily is writing a letter now, and my dad is going to take it up to the palace right away.”
“Sounds good. I’ll call tomorrow after I leave Esme cottage. It will take three days to brew.”
“Hey, we all understand this is a good plan. The rogues and Luna won’t see it coming. I can tell this taking stress off Ben and Lily to. Ben’s a mess. I think he’s going to tell his dad what’s going on and tell him about maddy.”
“Whatever he wants to do, I trust him.”
“Okay, talk to you tomorrow.”
“Yeah, bye.”
I hung up the phone and we finished walking up to the coven house. As soon as we entered the door. Silas was in my face. “Isn’t it time for you mutts to go?”
I heard a deep, stern voice coming from the staircase. I look up to see Marvin. “Silas, that’s enough. They are going to stay here for a few days. I’m moving them up to the two guestrooms on our floor. How dare you put Maureen with the low-level witches. We’re going to have a talk about that later.”
He stormed off. Silas face redden. He wasn’t looking at me, though. He was looking up at the staircase and at Maureen, who was motioning with her hand for us to follow her up the stairs.
After three sets of stairs and down a very long hallway, we reached two sets of doors. She looked up at me nervously. “You okay sharing a room again? I swear the couches are better in here.”
I laughed. “Sounds good, I was fine with the other room. I didn’t mind.”
“I know, but Marvin insisted. He was beyond piased to find out where I slept last night. The only downside to this is Silas room is right over there.” She pointed to a room at the end of the hallway.
“Yikes, but it will be fine. I’m not worried.”
Conner pointed back and forth between the two doors across from each other. “One of these ours?”
“Yes, that one. This one is actually my old room.”
Conner nodded. “Well, thanks, Maureen. Can we meet you guys for dinner in an hour?”
“Sounds good.”
Louise and Conner headed inside their room. and Maureen nervously opened the door to the one we would be sharing.
She opened the door to a very pink room. Even the couch was pink. it definitely looked a hell of a lot more comfortable, and it was a sectional that could actually fit me.
“I take it they didn’t change a thing?”
“No, Marvin wouldn’t let anyone stay in here in case I wanted to come home. It was actually nice to hear that he still cared even after what my family did.”
“Well, he seems like he’s an intelligent man to know you it wasnt your fault”
“Well, we have an hour. What do you want to do?”
I gave her a corky grin. “Harry Potter?”
She smiled eagerly. “Okay, moving on to the second one, though.”
She grabbed a large throw blanket out of the closet and turned on the tv. She patted the seat next to her, and I didn’t hesitate. She placed the blanket over both of us, and I felt her scoot closer to me. I looked down at her and smiled.
I think she felt me looking because she looked up at me. “Sorry, is this okay? You’re just so warm.”
I nodded. “Always.” I placed my arm over her shoulder, and she nestled into me even more.
