Landyn POV

Me and Conner got kicked out of Esmes house for the second time today, and we were told we couldn’t come back tomorrow.

Louise snickered at us for getting kicked out again. Apparently, she was able to handle all the ingredients and spells.

Where as Conner and I were gagging, they added snails and frog legs and some sort of black tar i didn’t have the heart to ask exactly what it was. But the smell, gosh, the smells were horrible.

Conner was freaking out more than me, but it wasn’t helping that Maureen and Louise found it hilarious and were mocking us. I think we were more freaked out over the fact that we were going to have to drink it.

Esme kept calling us pups because apparently we were acting like children. I blame Conner for being more vocal and dramatic about it. For a second, I actually thought he was going to throw up, and apparently, so did Esme because she kicked us out after that.

We took our wolves for a run to try to pass some time, but for the most part, we sat by the trees pouting. Conner didn’t feel comfortable leaving too far from Louise.

Maureen walked out of the house and down a set of steps towards us. “You pups going to make it?”

Conner stuck his tongue out. “We weren’t that bad.”

It was like Louise was on cue. She came out pretending to gag. “What is that? You can’t add that. Nope, nope, nope, I’m not drinking that. Nope, no way.” She was making sure to add a dramatic flare that was worse than how Conner actually acted.

Maurneen snorted. “Does that sound about right Conner?”

His mouth dropped. “Hey, why are you singling me out? Macho man over there was getting grossed out, too.”

Louise laughed. “He wasn’t verbalizing it like you. You were almost yelling. It was distracting them, and well, it was just annoying.”

Conner pouted his l*p. “I’m your mate. You can’t say things like that.”

“Yes, I can when you’re being ridiculous. “

Conner crossed his arms and just slumped his back into a tree.

I sighed. “Okay, now that the teasing is done. How’d it go?”

“Well, it’s done it just has to brew. It will be ready the day after tomorrow in the morning.”

“How’s Esme?”

“She seems nervous as to be expected. She just doesn’t want anything to happen to Ace , she’s not really worried about herself, just him.”

“I kinda figured. She didn’t seem to care about what happened to her when we talked yesterday. What time do we come back tomorrow?”

“She doesn’t really need everyone to come. I’m mostly just going to make sure the potion is going on how it’s supposed to.”

“Why? Do you think she will do something to it.”

“You’re so paranoid. No, I don’t think she will do anything to it. Besides, I will be able to tell. I got the scent and color down. If she adds or tweaks anything, it will change. But she seems genuine in wanting to help you guys.”

I nodded. I’m still pretty nervous about trusting her. She’s been working with the rogue king and Luna for years. I just hope her loyalty is really to her grandson. “Well, now what do we do?”

“Well, dinner time is not for awhile, but eat and then another movie? Maybe Louise and Conner want to join?”

She looked over at them. They were making out by the tree Conner was pouting at. “Or maybe not.”

I shook my head. “We can ask, but not looking that way.”

I whistled to get their attention. ” Hey, you horn dogs want to head back to the house?”

They both nodded and went behind a couple of trees to shift.

I looked over at Maureen. “You riding or teleporting?”

“Oh, I’m definitely riding. Can we go on a longer run? I want to show you something.”

Wait, is she flirting with me again? “Yeah, that’s fine.”

I linked Conner letting him know i would meet him at the house later for dinner.”

He snickered in my head. “What are you two going to be doing?”

“I honestly have no idea. She just asked to show me something.”

“I bet she’s going to show you something.”

“Wait, what?…. Oh shut up.”

I cut the link and brought my attention back to Maureen. She looked at me puzzled. “Are you going to shift or what?”

I blushed. “Oh yeah.” I quickly ran behind a tree. I probably looked really awkward just standing there. I shifted to my wolf, and i carried my clothes to her in my teeth.

She took the clothes out of my mouth and scratched behind my ears. My wolf turned into her touch.

She smiled beautifully at me. “What a good puppy.” She cood as she continued to scratch behind my ears.

Ryder growled at her lightly, not liking to be called a “pup” or “puppy again.”

She pointed her finger at me and said in a stern voice. “Down boy. “

What shocked me the most was that my wolf obeyed. He laid down at her feet.

Maureens eyes got big. “That was supposed to be a joke.”

She bit her l*p and climbed up on my back. As she was laying her chest on my back, she whispered softly in my ear, “I wasn’t trying to command you, I was just trying to flirt. I’m sorry.”

If Ryder couldn’t be any more embarrassing, he started to wag his tale. I don’t think she noticed, thankfully. It was weird to see him bond with Maureen. Especially since they just met.

She grabbed onto my fur roughly as always. She whispered, “Head north through those two broken trees there.”

I ran for about forty-five minutes when we came to a cliff. She patted my side for me to stop. She slid down off of me and pointed down a dirt path.

I shifted quickly. She turned around, not expecting me in human form, and gulped loudly.

She lingered her eyes on my chest and down the rest of my body. She bit her l*p hungrily. She shook her head back to reality. “Sorry I wasn’t expecting you to shift yet.”

“No, it’s my fault. I thought when you got off that it was time.”

She shook her head again. “No, it was my fault. I should have told you what I was doing. I just wanted to see if any branches or trees were down in the way before we started to go down.”

She kept roaming her eyes over my body on impulse. I cleared my throat. “Can I have the bag, or do you need me to shift again?”

Her eyes got big. “I’m sorry I didn’t hear you. What did you say?”

I grinned at her. I was glad she was attracted to me like that. I loved that just looking at me was a distraction for her. I repeated myself. “Can i have the bag, or do you need me to shift again?”

“Oh, um, yeah.” she stumbled, trying to get the bag off her back.

I motioned for her to turn around with my hand. Not that I cared that she was looking. I just wanted her to know that I knew what she was doing.

She blushed instantly. Oh, right, I’m so sorry. Um, yeah, turning around.” She was a mumbling mess. She seriously is so much like Lily.

I realized how much I missed her. I need to call her after dinner to check in. I felt an ache in my chest for a minute just thinking about her.

I tossed my clothes on and walked up behind Maureen, putting my arm around her. “Okay, where we headed?”

“Just down this way a bit, it’s not much further.”

We walked in silence the rest of the way, but every time I looked down at her, she was still slightly blushing. I liked that I had that effect on her.

When we got to a clearing, I looked up to see a huge and, I mean, a huge waterfall. Putting the ones on our pack to shame. Behind it was a clear view of mountains in the far distance. It was breathtaking.

She stared up at me. “Do you like it?”

“Yes, this is seriously amazing. How did you find this?”

“When my mom died, and i got rejected, I took off running and ended up here. I’ve only been here a couple of times. It seems no one really knows that it exists.”

“Why bring me here?”

“Why not?”

I smiled at her. The fall leaves and all the colors made this place look really magical. There was steam coming from the water. Maureen saw that it caught my eye.

“The water is freakishly warm. Do you want to swim?”

I got nervous all of a sudden. She was playing a dangerous game. I knew she didn’t have a swimsuit. I guess she could teleport to get one.

“Umm, sure. Are you sure that’s okay?”

“Yes, of course I’m the one that offered. You’re being weird.”

She was the one motioning for me to turn around. I complied willingly. After a few minutes, I heard some splashing of water. “Okay, I’m good. Now you can turn back around.”

I turned around to see her bare shoulders, and I felt my wolf fighting me for control. I didn’t waste any time and shed all the clothing I had on. Showing her my bared glory that’s she’s already seen.

I saw her lick her lips. Intentional or not, it was doing things to me. She looked into my eyes. “You’re not modest at all, are you?”

“What did you expect, I’m a wolf. I’m used to naked bodies.”

“Right, I seem to keep forgetting thay part.” She looked slightly hurt by that thought.

I walked into the water, and it was really warm, like almost hot tub warm. She could tell i looked confused as I swam closer to her.

“I think it’s enchanted. It’s the middle of fall. The air is crisp, but this part of the water always remains warm. I least like to think it is endhanted. “

I kept a safe distance between us. We both just floated awhile when we heard a snap of a twig. Then I smelled it. “Rogues”

I began to panic and pulled Maureen into me. She didn’t seem scared. Which I thought was odd. Even witches were scared of rogues they were impulsive and unpredictable. But Maureen seemed calmed and unfazed.

Six rogues came out of the tree line and close to the water. Two shifted back immediately, and I recognized them from the attack at the country club.

The taller one gave me an evil grin. He was clearly the person in charge of this little group. “Landyn Black, I would recognize you anywhere. It’s funny how much of a resemblance you have towards your real father.”

I used my alpha tone. “What do you want?”

“We were just passing through when we got a wiff of another wolf. Lucky enough, we caught you alone with a , a witch?” He seemed to be unsure of what Maureen was, but only for a moment when it became clear to him.

I saw a look of fear cross his face. “What are you doing at a witches coven?”

I looked down at Maureen. “They know they can’t leave here alive.”

I started to swim to the edge so I could actually touch the ground to shift. I felt Maureen grab at my arm. When I looked over at her, her eyes were glowing silver.

The only other person’s eyes I’ve seen glow were Lily’s when she healed Ben. I never told her. Mostly not to freak her out. But they were a neon purple color.

Maureens’ eyes were brighter, but I’m guessing just because of the color. She pushed me back behind her.

A wind started to stir around her, and the sky started to cloud over like it could rain. Her hands started to glow, much like her eyes. With one quick swoosh motion of her hand, the rogues’ mouths were gushing out with b***d.

I’ve never seen anything like this. It was like they were gutted from the inside. They all collapsed to ground dead.

I saw Maureens glaze over and then roll back in her head, and she started to faint. I caught her in my arms and brought my hand to her neck to make sure she was still breathing.

When I was relieved to know that she still was, I quickly swam us to the other side opposite of where the dead rogues laid.

I brushed the hair out of her face and layed her head on my lap. I debated linking Conner to get Esme. But I was more afraid of what she would do to Conner or get scared about continuing the potion we needed.

Before I could even decide what I wanted to do. Maureen started to g***n and weakly opened her eyes. She looked over at me. “Ugh, damn it, Landyn, put some pants on my face is right by your naked weiner. “

I let out a laugh and pulled her into my arms, and hugged her tight. I was so relieved to know that she was okay and there wasn’t any permanent damage of doing a spell or whatever the hell it was she did.

She gasped. “s**t, I’m naked too. How much did you see? “

“Well, you did faint, and I had to carry you out of the water bridal style. So I’m not going to lie I seen a bit.”

Her face was tomato red. “Ugh, I could just die in embarrassment. “

“No, don’t. You saved me, and you saved my pack from the rogue king finding out about us being here. I just hope you didn’t hurt yourself in the process.”

“No, I’m okay. I’ve only used this power one other time. I guess I should explain. A lot of witches that can teleport are usually granted with this gift or power, whatever you want to call it. We can transfer the power from our ancestors when we sense a serious threat. If it’s not a big enough threat, our bodies reject us from using it. When I felt it was coming forward is when I pulled you back. I knew I could protect both of us. I basically melted them from the inside out. There shouldn’t be much left of them by now. It does take a lot out of me.”

“You said it’s only granted to witches that can teleport?”

“Yes, that’s what I said.”

“So does Esme have this gift?”

“I’m sure she did, but she’s much too old now. She’s over a hundred. It only lasts for twenty years or so. She should still be able to teleport but not as far or as frequent as she used to.”

“I was just curious why she didn’t use it on the rouge king.”

“That’s because she can’t anymore.”

“It all makes sense. Does anyone know at your coven?”

“I don’t think so. Marvin knows since yesterday. But he won’t say anything. I was granted the gift after my mother died, and I was rejected. When I do teleport, I do it away from people and usually in the woods so no one can see.”

“Would it be wrong for me to ask you to help defend my pack instead of your soul purpose of killing the rogue king?”

“Soon, as you guys asked for my help, i knew i was always going to help defend it. The problem is that this gift is difficult. I never know when I will be granted the power to use it.”

“Surely your ancestors will sense how evil the luna and the rogues are, and they will help us.”

“We can only hope, but they also might know that you guys have it all handled and things will work out how they are supposed to.”

“Yeah, I guess so.”

We got dressed finally. I could tell she kept taking little sneak peaks of my body, and to be honest, so was I of her.

After we were fully dressed, I heard another twig snap. I looked over to Maureen. “You ready to get the hell out of here?”

Before I had time to reject, she had her arms around me and teleported me back to the woods outside of the coven.

I instantly threw up. She patted my back. “I’m so sorry. I should have warned you. I panicked. Landyn, it wasn’t another rogue out there. I sensed another witch. “

I wiped my mouth. “Who?”

“I don’t know. I didn’t stay long enough to figure it out. I’m hoping they didn’t see us or what I can do.”

She looked panicked. I pulled her into my chest and hugged her tightly. “It’s okay, I’m sure it’s just someone from your coven. They could have known about the waterfall before you.” I tried to give her as much comfort as I could.

“Yeah, maybe so.” I could tell she didn’t really believe me.
