Landyns POV

f**k, was I could think when Marvin mentioned seeing us in the woods. I was honestly hoping it was just him that saw us.

Marvin shook his head. “Silas saw you two, and he knows that you can teleport . You don’t have to tell me what happened to the rogues I already know. But now I’m guessing so does Silas. Maureen, you really need to be more careful. You know he has this built-up rage. He’s impulsive, I don’t want to see anything happen to you.”

I could tell he was sincere in his voice. Maureen mumbled out. “You know?”

“Yes, I know what it all means.” Nothing more was said about it, and we left his office without another word.

———-

We headed to Esmes cottage to pick up the potion to take back to the pack house. Maureen gave me an extra duffle bag, so it just looked like I was carrying clothes.

We got to the cottage, and Esme was sitting in her wooden rocker. She was watching me and Maureen intently.

I hadn’t realized I was by her side constantly trying to help pack up the potion and clean up and always touching her till I felt Esmes confused glare.

I looked at her, worried that something might be wrong. “You feel a pull or need to protect Maureen, don’t you?”

Woah, how did she know that? I just nodded.

“You feel a similar pull to Lily, right?”

Now I was feeling confused. “Yeah, I guess I do.”

Maureen seemed hurt next to me. I’ve never done anything with Lily. I would have to explain that later.

“Hmm.” Was all she said.

“Does this have anything to do with the guardian comment you made the other day.”

“Yes, I’m just trying to make sense of it myself.”

“Well, can you enlighten us? Maybe we can help figure it out.”

“I just never thought it was my place to tell you your destiny or your fate. Usually, you would get a visit from selene or your moon goddess, whatever you prefer to call her. I didn’t want to interfere. I guess I’m not really left with another choice because my suspicions do evolve, a witch being part of all this.”

I took a seat, pulling Maureen down next to me. Conner and Louise were already sitting and quiet and curious just as much as I was.

“You see, guardians are wolves that are picked by the moon goddess specifically for the royal females. A guardian is only born with a plan of protecting a royal. It’s been generations since one has been born. But you feel this unconditional love, pull, urge to protect her, and emptiness when you’re not around Lily, right?”

“Yeah, I do. But I’ve always cared for Lily.”

Conner spoke. “You were never this close. You got way closer when you came back from Alpha School.”

Esme nodded. “It makes sense, Lily was close to her birthday and welcoming her gift. “

I was still confused. “What does all of this mean?”

“Your destiny has always been to protect Lily. A lot like the mate bond, you will feel lost and a pull to be near her. I’m sure Lily is feeling it like you.”

s**t I never did call her. I hate that she could be feeling the same way. Myles is probably confused and hating me right now.

Esme looked me and up and down. “I’m guessing you have a gift, correct?”

Damn this witch is good. I nodded. Shocking Maureen even more.

“You don’t have to tell me what. It just confirmed that you are a guardian.”

“But why did you ask if I was feeling that way about Maureen if it can only be towards royals?”

“Because I now expect that Maureen is a royal.”

Mauren shook her head fast and stood up quickly, knocking the coffee table over accidently. “Wait, what?”

I was shocked myself. “I thought royal females had violet eyes?”

“But she’s also part witch and didn’t get the werewolf gene. You, my child, are a half breed.” She pointed at Maureen.

Maureen continues to shake her head. “No, that’s not possible. Both my parents were witches. “

“Maureen, I knew your mother and your grandparents, and this is how I know that your mother was in a relationship with Charles before he found his fated mate Raya. You are about a year older than Lily, right? Give or take?”

I nodded. Maureen was frozen in place.

“Your mother spent the summer at your grandparents’ cottage when she met Charles. They fell in love and kept it a secret. I mean, a witch and a wolf that weren’t fated mates were unheard of, and they knew either one of their parents would approve. Shortly into their relationship, Charles went to visit a pack with his father when he met Raya. He ended things with your mother instantly saying it could never work out and he couldn’t fight the pull he felt towards Raya. Your mother came back here completely heartbroken when she found her beloved. He had to know you weren’t his, but he loved you anyway, Maureen. I just never put the pieces together till now. It’s not uncommon to get pregnant right away when you find your beloved or mate, so no one questioned it.”

Maureen was pacing.”So you’re telling me my real dad is the future king, and I’m technically a half breed princess?”

“That’s exactly what I’m telling you. Landyn is also your guardian just as much as he is Lily’s. That’s why you both feel this connection and pull.”

Maureen looked angry now. “So we don’t actually have feelings for each other?”

Esme gave her a sad look. “It can mimic the feelings of a beloved or fated mate, but since Lily’s is already marked, Landyn probably doesn’t feel any romantic feelings toward Lily.”

Louise was the one looking worried now. “What about Lily’s babies?”

I scowled her for even bringing it up. Lily and Myles didn’t want anyone to know she was having a girl.

Esme gave a knowing look. “Well, if she has a girl, Landyn will feel it for the baby to……. Landyn, there have never been three female royals born in one lifetime. You have a big job, but if the moon goddess didn’t think you could have handled it, then this wouldn’t be your destiny. You’re going to go down in history, my boy.”

I gulped. Feeling the sudden pressure of it all.”What am I supposed to do?”

“Your job is to protect them and their gift. Luckily, Lily is already mated and marked and with her gift, and so is her mate. But you will have to make sure to keep her baby safe and when she comes of age you need to make sure that she is mated and marked with the right kind of mate, usually there fated mates. As of Maureen, I’m not sure if she will grant her mate a power since she does have one too technically. I’ll have to look more into that. But there will always be thirsty men after that royal baby girl. Just be prepared for that. I understand why Raya hid Lily all those years. “

“Why didn’t Lily have a guardian when she was baby?” Asked Louise.

“Most don’t get one till they become of age, so I’m guessing Lily having a girl means this baby is going to play an important factor in all our futures. Especially now that the witches and Werewolves are now connected through Maureen. Maureen is a very powerful witch. Even if she doesn’t want to admit it.”

Maureen sat back down, trying to process everything. I felt hurt myself knowing my feelings for Maureen might not actually be real.

Maureen looked at me. “You have a fated mate out there somewhere. What we have might not even be real. I want you guys to head back to your pack and give me a bit. I’ll be there long before the attack. I just need a picture of one of your rooms so I can teleport.”

“Maureen, wait, this still could be real. I’ll send you one.” I was hurt to I swear I felt something between us, but now I wasn’t so sure.

“No, Landyn, I need space. I have a sister, soon to be niece and nephew, and dad and life I never knew about. I just need time alone, okay?”

I nodded, knowing I didn’t have another choice but to give her space.

Maureen walked to Louise and gave her a hug and then turned to hug Conner. He smiled down at her. “You know you actually do look like Lily some and do the same stutter mumble thing when you’re nervous.”

She gave a small smile. “Thank you for telling me that.”

She walked past me, not giving me a hug, but stopped herself at the door. “Will you guys tell Lily before I get there? It will just be easier if she already knows.”

I nodded behind her, realizing she couldn’t see me. “Of course we will. Whatever you want.”

She titled her head to the side and nodded back at me before she teleported in the air, so we couldn’t follow. Even though every part of me wanted to.

We headed outside when it dawned me. We were going to have to run all the way back to the pack. I was flustered trying to figure out how to carry the potion back securely.

Louise noticed. “When you shift, I’ll secure the bag around your neck so it won’t go anywhere when you run, and then I’ll shift afterward.”

“Thank you, that is a great suggestion. I’m gonna call Lily to let her know we’re getting ready to leave. I hate being too far away to link them.”

I take out my phone and dial Lily’s number. She answered after a few rings. Her voice was groggy like she just woken up. “Landyn! Are you guys okay? Are you headed back yet? Please tell me you’ll be home soon, I’m getting so nervous.”

“I’m sorry to wake ya, Lil. We’re coming. it just might take us a little longer. We’re coming in wolf form.”

“It’s okay. i much rather hear from you guys. Ive been worried. But, what happened? Why isn’t Maureen coming?”

“She’s going to come later. I’ll explain more when I get there.”

She seemed unsure. “Okay, just be safe, Landyn. The rogues could already be camped out. The palace warriors are already hidden. My grandfather had them come in last night. He’s worried.”

“Lily, it’s only eight in the morning. Don’t worry, I’ll be there soon.”

“Okay, see you.” She hung up first but had a sadness laced in her voice.”

Conner placed his hand on my shoulder. “She’s scared, Landyn. Let’s just get home quickly. I know she will feel better once we get there. Besides, we know how much she loves me.”

Louise rolled her eyes. I went and shifted to my wolf, and she placed the bag around my neck so it was tight. Her and Conner then proceeded to shift, and we took off the head home finally. I couldn’t help but feel an awful ache about leaving Maureen.

We got back to the pack in no time. The three of us are completely starving. We skipped breakfast to head straight to Esmes cottage.

I didn’t even make it inside the pack house when I’m greeted by Lily at the door. She instantly wrapped her arms around me and had tears in her eyes. I smiled into her hair. “How did you know I was here?”

Myles gave me a hard, concerned look. ” She sensed you were here. It was really weird.”

Conner gave a pouty look to Lily. “What about me Lil, did you sense me? I thought I was your favorite.”

She kissed his cheek. “Always.” She then squealed. “Oh my gosh Conner your marked. This is wonderful.”

She pulled Louise in a tight hug and whispered, thinking the rest of us wouldn’t hear, or maybe she didn’t care. “I’ll need all the details later.” She winked at her.

Conner raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “Wait, do you girls talk about us?”

They had all of our attentions now.

Louise nodded. “Oh yeah. That’s how I know your bro Myles over there can be quite the freak and comes up some pretty good postions.” She winked at him.

Myles tried to hold back a smile, and Conners mouth dropped.

Lily gave an evil grin. “Don’t worry, Conner, we talk about you too.”

He started to beam.

“That’s how i know you might want to take some pointers from Myles.”

All of us started laughing, including Louise. She covered it up quickly. “I swear I didn’t say that.”

Lily winked at him. “Or did she?”

I tried to hide back my laugh. “Okay, but seriously, guys, we need to talk. Myles, link Ben, Amber, and Brody to meet in your room. While we’re grabbing food, there’s a lot to talk about.”

I handed Myles the duffle bag. “Will you take this upstairs.”

He looked confused for a minute and then realized what it was. “Oh yeah, no problem. ” I didn’t want to make a big deal about it. Never know when there’s listening ears.

Me, Louise, and Conner headed up to Lily’s and Myles room with a ridiculous amount of food. I knew we would need it to get ready for tonight.

When we all came in with multiple bags, Lily looked at me questionly. “What did you do bring up half the buffett?”

I shrugged. “I didn’t know if everyone else was hungry. We haven’t eaten today, and we ran all the way back.”

“Well, I’m always hungry, so you’re not wrong there. Did you.” I didn’t let her finish her sentence.

“Yes, I brought roast, potatoes and carrots, side sales and cheesecake. “

She beamed. “You’re my favorite.”

Conner pretended to be hurt and hold his chest.”

Lily smacked his arm. “Oh, stop it, you know i love you too.”

Ben came in shortly after and pulled me aside. “Hey, our dad wants to talk to us both when we’re done here. He knows, and everything is good. He actually wanted to talk to you the day you left.”

It shocked me that Ben called Alpha Rodger, “Our dad.” It was weird to hear it out loud. “Okay, yeah, that should be fine. But can it wait till Maureen gets here.”

He patted my back. “Good, and that’s fine.” Ben looked in rough shape. I thought he was doing better, or maybe it was all sinking in that he very well could be losing his mother tonight. Lily gave us a sad look, and she patted the seat next to her for Ben to sit. She was already devoring her food.

He sat next to her, and she put her arm on his shoulders, giving him a comforting side hug. She jumped slightly when the babies kicked, and Myles both put their hands on her stomach, smiling. It was nice to see them getting along.

I sat down in one of the empty chairs. I felt my anxiety build up about what this could do to Lily. I think Lily felt it because she looked at me with a frown. “What is it, Landyn?”

“When we were at the coven, we learned a couple of things. One was that I learned I’m a guardian. Apparently, one is born to protect all royal females with the bloodline. To make sure their gift is given to a proper mate and to keep them safe. This pull and bond we feel Lily is part of that. The urgency i feel to be near you and protect you is part of that. You should be feeling something similar. Like unsafe when I’m not around.”

I thought Myles was going to pissed off about me saying that last part, but he actually shocked me. “Oh, thank you, moon goddess. I thought there was something going on between you two.”

Now Lily looked pissed. “Oh, really? Doesn’t matter that I’m about to push out your twin pups and oh the fact that I wear your mark.? You really thought that?”

Myles looked guilty. “Lily, you have to understand how confused i was. What was going on between you to honestly seemed like the mate bond. You got so depressed when Landyn was gone, and then as soon as he crossed the board, you sensed him and perked up instantly. I couldn’t help my mind from wondering. “

She sighed. ” I guess I could see why that would be confusing. But, I love you and only you like that. Just remember that, okay?”

He kissed the side of her head. I look over to see Ben looking miserable. He was trying to cover it up, but I caught it.

I didn’t need to put the block down to know what was bugging him. I wasn’t stupid. I knew he was still in love with Lily. I put the block down just for a minute to confirm it. [“I would do anything not to love her just for a day, a minute, a second. But i know that’s not possible. I’ll die a happy man knowing she was my only love. I know I’ll never get over her. I just want her happy.”]

I gulped, feeling guilty that I had just heard that. I hate to see him hurting, and I knew I couldn’t help him with this pain. I look over to see Amber even feeling sorry for him. Which is so unlike her, and she’s been oddly quiet tonight.

Lily called my name. “Landyn, was that it? Don’t get me wrong, I’m thrilled that I have a guardian, and so will my baby girl. You just made it seem like there was more.”

My tone got more serious than before. Even Conner looked concerned about how Lily might handle this next part.

She looked at the three of us and frowned. “You guys are scaring me. What is it?”

“The protective feelings and bond I felt with you I felt for one of the witches, and she wasn’t my fated mate.”

She looked confused. “Okay, so you’re someone eles guardian too?”

“No, Lily, guardians are only for the royals.”

“I don’t understand then.”

Myles put his fingers on binge of his nose. I think he figured out what I’m trying to say.

“Lily, your dad was in a relationship before he met your mom. They kept it a secret. When he met your mom, he ended things with Maureens’ mom because he wanted to be with his fated mate. She didn’t know she was pregnant when she returned to her Coven, and she never told your dad.”

“Wait, you’re saying I have a sister?”

“Yes.” We were all waiting for her to freak out.

“I think that’s wonderful. I always wanted a sibling. Does she look like me?”

Louise spoke before I could. “Kind of same facial features, but her hair is black and she has golden eyes.”

“Wait, she doesn’t have violet eyes like all the royals?”

“We think it’s because she’s half witch. She didn’t get the werewolf gene.”

“Oh, okay, that makes sense. How is she taking it? I know she already had a sibling. It must have come as a shock.”

“She’s okay. She has more going on than just that. I actually need to take a picture of your room so she can teleport here. Is that okay?”

“Yeah, that’s fine. Wait, teleport, and what aren’t you telling me?

“Yeah, she can teleport. I wouldn’t walk around naked till she gets here. “

“Landyn, I wasn’t planning on it. Now, quit avoiding the question. What aren’t you telling me?”

Everyone started to clear out the room until only Lily and I were left alone.

“Her ex, the one that rejected her, was all over this blonde bimbo. I felt bad for her when he kept giving her a hard time. I already felt a pull, and we ended up kissing, and we both started to have feelings or what we thought were feelings. We later learned it might be my guardian pull. Things got pretty heated between us. We didn’t have s*x. But it was something. She’s hurt and confused, and honestly, so am i.”

She pulled me into a hug. “I’m so sorry, it’s not like you to get like that for a girl. You must really like her.”

“I’m honestly not sure right now, I’m just worried about her.”

“I can see that.”

I took a picture of her room and hit sent.

She rubbed my back. “You can wait in here if you want. You and myles can play games and finish eating. I’m just going to lay down for a little. I get tired really easily, and that was still a lot even though I’m really excited.”

Myles came in a few minutes later. Lily must have linked him. He walked by me and grabbed an Xbox controller, and handed one to me. “Call of duty?

“Yeah, man, thanks.” He knew I needed the distraction while we waited. We had eight hours till Lily’s party. I was hoping she would be here by then.
