Forsaking the Years of Longing
Forsaking Billionaire 107

Chapter 31

With the brilliant morning light illuminating the eastern sky, the two reached the shore with light steps.

Daphne leapt gracefully off the boat and turned to look at Calvin, who remained on board. A mix of emotions quietly surged in her heart. "Just follow that path ahead, and you'll find your way out. This is as far as I can take you," Calvin said in a low voice.

"You. we won't meet again, will we?"

Daphne wasn't sure why she asked such a strange question - after all, this man was her kidnapper.

Calvin only smiled faintly before gently steering the boat back toward the shimmering surface of the lake, drifting further and further away.

Daphne didn't linger. She hurried along the winding path and quickly reached the main road.

Just as she stepped onto the pavement, she was fortunate to encounter the police who had been searching for her. Like grasping at a lifeline, she used the last of her strength to run toward them. Meanwhile, Jonathan and Matthew were on the verge of breaking down, their hearts in their throats.

At that moment, Jonathan's phone suddenly rang.

He instinctively answered, and the words on the other end were like music to his ears: "She's been found!"

The police informed Jonathan that Daphne had been taken to the hospital.

Hearing this, Matthew erupted with a surge of energy and dashed out.

Jonathan followed closely behind, and the two sped to the hospital.

Upon arrival, Matthew, nearly out of control, anxiously asked anyone he saw about Daphne's whereabouts. Jonathan, more composed, quickly got the room information from the hospital's front desk. They burst into the room almost simultaneously, calling out, "Daphne!"

On the hospital bed, Daphne was sound asleep, exhausted from days of hunger and fatigue. She had fainted from hypoglycemia and was now hooked up to an IV, quietly recovering her strength. Jonathan and Matthew stood by the bed, their intense gazes questioning the nurse. "What's wrong with her? Is she hurt?"

The nurse, taken aback by their urgency, replied, "She just fainted from hypoglycemia."

Jonathan immediately sat by the bed, holding his sister's hand tightly as tears streamed down his face. "You scared me to death!

You said I'd find you when I came back, but then you disappeared..."

Matthew stood behind him, his face filled with worry.

The commotion roused Daphne from her sleep. She opened her eyes to see Jonathan sitting by her bedside. "Brother.. am I dreaming?" Seeing him felt surreal.

Daphne had fainted just after finding the police, and waking up to this scene made her think it was all just a dream. Matthew quickly moved to the other side of the bed, his eyes bloodshot as he looked at her.

"Daphne, where did you go? Your brother and I searched the entire city for you..."

Jonathan joined in, his voice filled with urgency. "Yes, Daphne, who kidnapped you? How did you escape?"

It was only then that Daphne remembered Calvin- the one who had kidnapped her but also sent her back. "I... I don't remember."

She didn't want them to hunt Calvin down. In her heart, she believed he was a good person.

"If you don't remember, then don't dwell on it. The important thing is that you're back safe. From now on, you're never leaving my side again," Jonathan said, standing up and pulling Daphne into a hug. Before he could let go, Matthew interrupted.

"Daphne... do you really not remember anything? Do you at least remember that I was once your husband?"
