Forsaking the Years of Longing -
Forsaking Billionaire 108
Chapter 32
Matthew's words hit like a thunderclap, igniting Jonathan's fury.
He spun around and shouted at Matthew, "What gives you the right to say that? Shut up!"
Daphne, bewildered by the scene, looked at Matthew in confusion. "What are you talking about? I'm not even married."
Her brows furrowed deeply, her heart tangled with questions and uncertainty.
The atmosphere in the hospital room froze, an indescribable tension hanging heavy among the three of them.
Matthew's eyes reddened, tears brimming as he gazed at Daphne with a deep, aching intensity. His voice trembled slightly as he said, "Daphne, have you really forgotten the vows we made and the days we loved each other?" Jonathan's anger flared even hotter at this. Losing all sense of reason, he lunged at Matthew, landing a heavy punch square on his face.
"And you have the nerve to talk about love? If it weren't for that little lover' of yours, my sister wouldn't have ended up like this, losing her memories!' Jonathan's words cut like blades, slashing into Matthew's heart. Matthew didn't retaliate, allowing Jonathan's fury to pour out onto him.
Meanwhile, Daphne clutched her head as a splitting pain surged through her. Fragments of memories churned in her mind, swirling chaotically but refusing to piece together.
Holding her head in agony, she weakly cried out, "Brother, my head hurts so much... what are you two even talking about?"
Before she could finish, the unbearable pain overwhelmed her, and she collapsed onto the bed.
Jonathan immediately turned, catching her just in time to prevent her from falling.
He shot Matthew a furious glare and roared, "Look what you've done! Will you only be satisfied when Daphne's completely broken?"
Matthew watched the scene unfold, remorse and self-blame flooding his heart.
Taking a deep breath, he steadied himself and said to Jonathan, "You're right. This is my fault. I shouldn't have said anything.
From now on, I won't bring it up again."
With those words, he turned and left the room, his figure heavy with dejection.
Matthew drove home in silence, his mind filled with regret as he reflected on his actions.
As he passed by Charlotte's room, he overheard a conversation that stopped him cold.
"Is it done? Has that nuisance Daphne disappeared for good?"
The voice, both familiar and venomous, struck him like a bolt of lightning.
He stormed into the room, fury blazing in his eyes as he confronted Charlotte. "What the hell are you saying? You dare to lay a hand on Daphne?"
Charlotte, startled by his sudden outburst, went pale but quickly regained her composure.
"What are you talking about, Matthew? How could I ever do such a thing?" She feigned innocence, trying to brush it off.
But Matthew wasn't fooled. Stepping closer, he grabbed her wrist tightly and demanded, "Stop pretending! Why did you do it? Why would you hurt Daphne?" Charlotte faltered under his fiery gaze, her heart racing with panic. But she forced herself to remain calm.
"I just wanted to get our lives back on track. She was an obstacle that had to be removed," she said coldly, her tone resolute and tinged with madness.
Matthew's rage erupted. He flung her to the ground with a sharp motion. "You're insane! Daphne is innocent! How could you do this to her?"
Even as she lay on the floor, Charlotte showed no fear. Instead, a mocking smile spread across her face.
"So what? Wouldn't you be happy if your precious Daphne were dead?"
